#2020Roundup
Day 12 – The “oldie” (not 2020) you loved the most.
I’m not much of a rewatcher but Sassy Girl Chun Hyang is an exception and the drama that got me hooked onto kdramas.
This was the first kdrama I watched where the FL wasn’t a stereotypical Candy! There is a bit of noble idiocy but for 2005 it made sense. An added bonus is that it gave us awesome OSTs. Everyone may have heard of the song Emergency Room (re:Hospital Playlist) but my favorite was their opening song, JaYooRoWa or I’m Free.
#2020Roundup
Day 7 – That OST you’re obsessed with
I was going to say Gaho’s Start from Itaewon Class BUT thankfully I am doing some catching up with the Roundup and watched Mr Queen in the meantime! Bong Hwan A is a BOP!
I’m not watching the show, but I heard Bong Hwan A for the first time two days ago, late at night, and I was instantly jolted awake. What an awesome number! I’m going to remember this one for a while!
This year’s puppy for me is hands down Ahn JiHo as Go EunHo. The soft spoken, strong willed, loyal, and adorable character that was one of the few bright spots of Nobody Knows that was perhaps too perfect of a character. His other puppy friends were an added bonus! Yoon ChanYoung was my favorite child actor after Yeo JinGoo and Yoon JaeYoung is a new face that I’ll look out for. I would adopt them as my younger brothers any day!! Looking forward to seeing them grow into great actors!
Hear hear re Ahn Ji Ho! Yoon ChanYoung was also excellent, and the way the overall relationship between the boys evolved was beautifully shown. Besides casting very talented youngsters, I think huge credit must go to the PD for extracting such fine performances from the kids, which is always such a difficult task.
Since there’s no Day 21 set up for #2020Roundup, I propose Day 21 to be The Puppy of 2020! I feel like last year’s puppy was hands down Lee JaeWook as Seol JiHwan so let’s post up the puppies of this year! *Totally recommending this because I need to get my puppy out there on DB 😉*
#2020Roundup
Day 20 – That cameo that blew up your mind.
There were a lot of hot topic cameos this year, but my favorite is Lee Kyu Hyung/Yoon SeWon in Forest of Secrets 2. The Ep 16 scene where Han YeoJin goes to him after hearing about HwangShiMok’s dream was so touching. Stay alive Yoon SeWon!
Jangwoo: You may think that my life is frustrating. You could think that it’s not anything special. But you see, I call that mundane life, “happiness”.
Eunshil: What?
JangWoo: Maybe some SNU graduates dream of exploring outer space. But to me… Sure I’m a SNU graduate, but I want to build and live my life doing so-called normal things every day. That’s my dream. Working hard and living an ordinary life makes me happy. I know that about myself.
Eunshil: You should have written that in your letter.
JangWoo: What?
EunShil: Instead of writing about getting beat up, “I know what makes me happy” Had you written that, I might have liked you more.
JangWoo: Do you think… is that cool?
EunShil: Yes. Not many people know what truly makes them happy.
This scene spoke to me more than any other extravagant scene I’ve watched this year. JangWoo explaining his happiness and EunShil recognizing that specialness of JangWoo’s happiness. How many people know what truly makes them happy? And how many people can chase that without being swayed by other people’s opinions of what happiness should look like?
This scene was precious, and we could understand better why our favourite unicorn was that cheerful, happy and willing to help others. He just wanted an ordinary life to make ordinary people happier… if only all of us would fight for that!
“I want to build and live my life doing so-called normal things every day. That’s my dream. Working hard and living an ordinary life makes me happy.” is one of my favourite lines of dialogue.😊 It made me feel…more ok about myself. It also reminded me a bit of the conversation about ambition in My Unfamiliar Family, but that one had a different flavour and went another direction.
Forest of Secrets 2
I have to admit, I stuck through the first half of season 2 because I trusted this writer, but that didn’t stop me from my wandering eyes from time to time *forgive me*. I want to rewatch this one a couple more times to see all the details I missed out on and admire the drama in all its beauty.
Sorry I wasn’t the best drama watcher the first time around! I promise I’ll be a better one on the rewatches! See you soon!
Weird dialogue that wanted to seem quick witted and funny. It was ok at first but it felt like “fake dialogue,” people were talking to each other but not like how people really talk. My sister liked Bogummy too much to care so I finished with her for the bean 🤷🏻♀️
Caption of my sister’s thoughts until I gained a bean below
I liked it a lot, couldn’t totally love it because of that plot twist I hated and wasn’t needed. And over all I loved the visuals of the first six episodes.
I loved IOTNBO but I also felt that the second half was not as strong as the earlier episodes. That plot twist with the mom was a bit of a letdown, plus the somewhat *softenining* of Moonyoung’s character. It is still a good and solid drama that could have been better.
Cha YoungJin
The most bada** competent cop leader with the heart of gold. She is a true role model for the puppies that follow her and for all the viewers that adore her.
I was really torn between a few characters but my ultimate male lead of 2020 is: the underrated Yang SeokHyung He is the ultimate embodiment of an introvert and seems like an island, but his love for his friends, mom, his patients, and colleagues is revealed throughout Hospital Playlist. A character of few words but big actions that show his heart. I can’t wait for Season 2 and see how much more he develops as a doctor, friend, son, and love interest to our lovely Chu Minha. 🥰🥰
Enjoy the bts cuts of our favorite OB/GYN that definitely had an impact on this decision 😉

@acaia,
Congratulations. We have 15 of your 28 dramas in common and I can’t argue with 1, 2 and 3. I have not seen MY UNFAMILIAR FAMILY.
I did watch and enjoy MISSING and it has moved up among my favorites of 2021. I haven’t put my list together yet. I am really enjoying KAIROS. The writing and acting have been superb.
I just started THE UNCANNY COUNTER and love what I have seen so far. TUC has one degree of separation from MYSTIC POP UP BAR (Yeom Hye-ran) (another favorite) and will probably be my last bean that is if it qualifies to be considered a 2020 drama with 10 of its 16 episodes airing in 2020.
Lol. I meant to put in a little defense for Lee Jae-wook. Please don’t hold LJW personally responsible for DO DO’s spectacular crash landing of an ending.
I don’t hold it against him at all. He really did try his best with what the script gave him. I trusted the writer because I adore Shopping King Louie… but she really failed a lot of beanies this year
I’m happy to report that my top 7 for the year are the same as yours, although I’d shuffle them around slightly! (FoS2 tops in mine). I didn’t watch too many more, though…
FOS2 ep13-14 really blew me out of the water as many other beanies have stated. And as others have stated, I too was feeling a bit disappointed during the first 12 episodes because nothing really seemed to make sense. There were so many cases going on with no resolution. And even for the cases that did have a “resolution” something didn’t feel satisfying about their ends. It was always a “so what, what does this mean?”
BUT I’m so glad it was this way because for once, we know more or less as much as the main characters of this drama know! We’re so used to crime/procedural dramas where we’re given who the antagonist is early on in the drama and we just watch the protagonists try to figure out what we have already been given. Thankfully, LeeSooYeon has the backing of fans and reputation of the first season to let her try something like this where something didn’t need to be revealed so early on and we can join in on the hunt and reveal. Season 1 did something similar but there was Lee Chang Joon while Season 2, there wasn’t an outright antagonist to look out for. It made things frustrating but we got to join in on the frustration that probably Shimok and YeoJin were facing too.
I wish this video showed the whole confession but but this is a translation of a comment from this video that was interesting because it was written in JoonYoung’s perspective. As a man of few words, I could totally see this being his thought process throughout the confession scene, and I needed to share it with you all ❤️❤️❤️
송아가 등돌리고 짐싸서 가려니까 고백 “좋아해요”
Songah turned her back and packs her stuff to leave so I confessed “I like you” (formal)
송아가 놀라 쳐다보니 고백날 처럼 길막하고 아컨하고 다시한번 말해줄게 “좋아한다구요”
Astonished, Songah looks at me so I block her way, I’ll say it again “I said like you” (formal)
송아는 주춤주춤물러서지만 이건 너에게 전하는 내 마음이야 “좋아해” (informal)
Songah slowly backs away but this is me sending my real feelings to you “I like you”
송아의 그렁그렁한 눈을 보며 송아정신차리길 기다린 후에 내 마음 다 털었어. “좋아해요”
Looking at Songah’s eyes brimming with tears, I wait for her to calm down, then I pour out my heart to her “I like you” (formal)
송아 두번고백을 네번으로 갚은 박준영
Repaying Songah’s two confessions with four
This is the reason why I wish the English translated to more than just “I like you”. As I already mentioned on my fanwall, there was just so many levels to what he said. So glad you posted this.
