So there seems to be a lot of beanies learning Korean so I just want to put this Times article and video out there for a quick read and watch.

Whenever I correct @raonah’s posts I feel a bit bad that some Korean words have so much meaning for such a short word but this article and video I came across was so profound I really enjoyed it. You all are learning and literally bringing joy into your own hands and taking on another soul by learning Korean. You guys are awesome!

Also, the word schadenfreude is in this article… I sincerely hope I wasn’t the only one who didn’t know what it meant in @javabeans’ recent Boys over Flowers article. 😅

Not sure if this link will work (I suck at html formatting 😅 But here goes nothing!

Thanks for posting the article and the video!
The thing that really stood out to me is when Vasili said that if you think about a problem in Korean and English, you could get two very different answers.
The untranslatable words are fascinating 🙂

I can’t see the article, but I watched the video. I loved that Vasili explained that you should think in the language you’re learning in order to really learn the language. My uncle, who communicated in at least seven languages, gave me the same advice.

    6
    1

Oh wow! 7 languages… I feel like knowing/learning a second language gives you a different perspective on life since you have to know/learn another culture. I wish I could do the same with Spanish or Chinese but it’s a bit daunting so I really applaud you all!

    Thanks for sharing!💐
Interesting video and article. That Vasili guy is so passionate about Korean language and history, it’s so fascinating.

Also, in that article, I lol-ed at “hyppytyynytyydytys”, such a cute happy word😆

This reminds me when i found out the meaning behind the word Han, like in Tablo’s lyrics in the song Hood.

“Han is the name we gave this struggle and pain”

And its fascinating to learn about the cultural context of a language

Loveeeeee Tablo’s lyrics. He seriously is a lyrical genius and not like kdrama geniuses 😉

His songs actually motivated me to learn korean. I want to understand and appreciate his words because they’re somehow relatable

Ghost Detective ep 6 – Title: I Need More Than A Few Seconds On Screen. Questions and spoilers in the comments

6
3

    (1) Ok, I know I’m criticizing the characters in my posts but I have to first give this drama some credit. We’re only in episode 6 and SOOO much has happened. The cliffhanger at the end was something I expected to happen in ep 12 at least.
    (2) I’m a teensy sad that ShinJaeHa didn’t come out this episode but there’s only so many minutes in an episode I guess… which brings me to: why does Lawyer only get like 1 minute screen time with how much she’s helping the crew??? And Detective! He deserves screen time!!!
    (3) And about the new journalist character: from what was in Wikipedia, I thought the character would be a girl 😅 either they changed the character or the character has a pretty girly name. I didn’t really get what his relationship to Da-Il was but I’m sure they’ll reveal more in the future. BTW I was really hoping it would be a girl so Detective or ShinJaeHa’s character could have a loveline…. a drama watcher a dream 😉
    (4) They literally reveal a lot of what I want in every episode without dragging things out which I GENUINELY appreciate. Yes, YeoWool did the “I’ll do this on my own” thing but she didn’t hide what she heard through the earpiece for that long. Yes, YeoWool did the run-away-from-villian thing but unlike what I said in my post yday she fought back and actually FLIPPED him!
    (5) So can Da-Il touch YeoWool because he sincerely desires to protect her?? So he moved the door and held the knife bc he genuinely wants to protect her??? Why was his eyes red???? Is he turning into a bad ghost because he wants to protect her?????? So many questions which I’m more confident now that they will be answered sooner than in regular dramaland 😊 one more week to go!!

    4
    1

      5. I don’t remember exactly what Morgue girl told Da-il, but remember how she was relieved he couldn’t open doors and move objects? I believe she said that for him to do this he’d have to do something evil or learn it at a high price. He visited the possessed chaman before getting that so he probably killed him or gave something in return to learn how to touch stuff now

      8
      1

That didn’t cross my mind at all! It makes sense!! Hopefully they’ll show us how next week

Ghost Detective ep 6 -You did better this episode Yeowool, but did you really need to use the fire alarm again??

8
2

I think there should be CCTV’s around the fire alarms to prevent pranksters from setting them off. Also don’t hospitals and mortuaries have better security (can’t really say such things after seeing the situation IRL but still)

    2
    1

Well the alarm turned silent pretty soon after YeoWool turned it on. You would think they could enclose it in glass but instead they just turn it off as if to say “Gah, another pranster? *off*” And it was actually pretty funny how everyone put their heads out instead of running for their lives like a lot of kdrama scenes with fire alarms.

I love you but… Really?? You wait to use this? Why? You couldn’t go with DaIl in the first place and arm yourself or at least warn him what could happen??

    2

I’m sure she was scared, probably traumatized by whatever happened in the past with her shaman teacher. She just needed time to gather courage to go there herself 🙂

      3
      1

You’re probably right but since we didn’t see that her coming to save them came as a reluctant surprise to me.

I think she’s really the breakout actor from this drama. Sometimes she steals the limelight for me more than yeo wool. Like the way she carries herself, laugh like a crazy person, or that slightly amused smile, everything about her is just so new and fresh. I like the quirkiness she brings to the game.

    2
    1

I agree! Even in WF I was wondering who she was. She has a presence even if she was a sidekick character there too

      1
      1

I hope she gets to be the main lead in her own drama soon! I have seen her on WF too, but somehow I really really loved this shaman plus forensic expert role.

Ghost Detective ep5 – My Favorite and Least Favorite Pic of the Ep. – Seriously YeoWool? Who walks against traffic in a fire alarm??? Oh yeah… it’s a kdrama 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thoughts about this ep in the comments

(1)I’m glad we got a lot of answers this episode but I was definitely a bit disappointed that YeoWool didn’t really have much of a part in this ep besides being a mouthpiece of Da-Il. But instead, we got a couple of awesome females to make up for it.
    (2) Looking at the cast list Shin JaeHa is pretty high up so I’m glad we will get to see more of him in the future. His story seems so sad and the implication that he knows about the Red Lady will hopefully have him join our little posse soon.
    (3) Also looking at the cast list, there is still a new character that hasn’t been introduced yet that is supposed to be “an aspiring journalist”. We already have a good number of characters, I just hope this doesn’t take away from YeoWool’s character too much like in this episode.
    (4) Coroner Gil used to be a shaman??? She started seeing ghosts at 10 and it started to fade around 15 so she was one young shaman… She’s in here for more exposition and additional help but I wished they used her character a bit better. Detective Park never questions why she is so into the case OR why she’s in the posse to find the Red Lady?? She’s awesome but there’s also a lot of plot holes because of her 🤔

SJH seems to be related to Da il. I don’t know why but the way both of them said the same thing- Don’t listen to bad things, only listen tou good stuff. Even yeo wool seemed to ponder about it.

I think det. Park gave up :D. The coroner is usually weird with the way she behaves around him. When he tried to question her about her abilities before, she brushed him off. Also she accompanied to the school last week and didn’t have any questions as to why yeo wool was there.

      1
      1

SJH seemed more like IlYang’s boyfriend than a relative. The way he says “l was meeting her” can double as I was seeing her/I was dating her. But it is a bit ambiguous. It does seem like they all knew each other from a while back though so I’m looking forward to more of his backstory and how he’ss contribute to the story.

That is true! He’s not as great of a detective as they were trying to make him out to be LOL. Perhaps he’s ignoring the weirdness of the coroner and YeoWool for the greater cause?

        1
        1

That’s what I think. Det. Park is just going with the flow as of now.

          1
          1

I think that he (the detective) WANTS to believe her for now. So many weird things going on and he certainly is taking it all with a grain of salt.
Mostly, however, he wants to protect her at all costs.

            3
            0

I’m with you. How could all those people miss someone walking against them in the hallway? Also, why was the Coroner still in her room when everyone else was leaving the building?
This show is interesting and has slowed down a bit but the lighting and color saturation effects are interesting.
When the three of them were in her lab the colors were so desaturated that it was almost black and white, but then there were other places with a wee bit more color.
I can’t tell if its the lighting, set design or actual post-camera work. But it certainly makes a difference for me.
One thing that surprised me was when her sister’s boyfriend grabbed her wrist and wouldn’t let go why didn’t she flip him like she did other times?

I like this show, its just creepy enough to make me shiver, but not so scary that I turn it off.

    3
    1

-Definitely! At least someone should’ve said “uh excuse me you’re going to wrong way” or something but they all ignored her!!
-I thought the same thing about the coroner but you couldnt hear the alarm when YeoWool went in so I kind of gave her a pass… I kind of pause and wait to see if the fire alarms cut off early too LOL
-I don’t usually focus on lighting too much usually but screen capping has made me realize the overall tone is super dark but there are lighter parts which I appreciate.
-I think the people flipping will not happen for a while bc… dramaland LOL but I know what you mean. My pass with that is that she’s not wary of him and she isn’t necessarily trying to flee from him so she doesn’t see the need to flip him.
-Despite the flaws of the drama, I really don’t know what to expect which keeps me coming back and intrigued. The creepy parts are also not too exaggerated or overly done which I appreciate too.

    @stpauligurl @superwhopotterlock
Hi All, glad to see your questions. I find this show leaves much to be desired in actions making sense (logic?) and purpose.

My question is why Yeo Wool had to hit the fire alarm in order to get into the building to see the Coroner. Couldn’t she have just walked in or was it out of bounds to her?

Wasn’t it more obvious and suspicious that she was a stranger entering the building when there should be CCTVs recording her walking against the flow of people?

    2
    1

Well this IS a kdrama, and there are times when we just have to go with the flow/show…too many things don’t make sense.
**But it certainly beats the drama playing out in the White House and Congress right now. I’ll take this craziness any day!**

That would’ve been interesting too but it seems like it’s a new character. Wikipedia has YooSuBin as character Kang EunJung so it seems like a female character but the actress’s name is new to me to it seems like she’s a pretty new actress.
