Beanie level: Noble idiot

Such a shame untouchable isn’t being recapped. The detail in the writing and the main cast are all so stellar. There’s so much bubbling tension! Can’t wait to see what will happen when it all blows up

I keep reading good things about it. I kind of want to watch it.

Give it a chance! The tight storyline and phenomenal acting made me sit through politics I usually don’t care much for.

Oooh, suddenly contemplating whether I should add it on my watch list

When you don’t understand the lyrics but the raw emotions still hit you because of how beautifully the vocal queen sings

Like the show makes me care about the supporting cast; the characters are so precious. Many shows featuring writers lately but this one takes the cake. ALSO BOMI someone cast her in more dramas please

Because This is My First Life is so brilliant. I absolutely love how the writer explores the nuances in each relationship dynamic, both at work and in personal lives. The characters are shining!

Just found out how I want to be proposed to. Ring in a favourite book that means so much to both parties? Best. Proposal. Ever.

Now that the effect of TKL ending is (sorta actually not really) less crippling, lets talk about the loose ends in the last episode! Namely, Biyeon, Dan, and that narration of Won leaving for Yuan

Would have appreciated at least a flashback to resolve Biyeon and Moosuk’s relationship, and while the whole honey cookies newlywed greeting the father scene was great, I felt like a scene between Dan and Rin was missing? He effectively left without a word to her? Or are words not needed between them to understand each others’ actions? Time constraint is probably why a narration was needed at the end there, but it would have been nice if Won could himself relay to us his decision to head to Yuan. Other than these, and perhaps Song In’s convenient spiral to insanity, the finale sure delivered.

I am still waiting on Viki subs for the finale, but have spoiled myself as much as possible 🙂 Bi Yeon and Dan were definitely left hanging with no closure. I think the show would have done well to have a massive time jump like I heard the novel did and show an older Won with Rin and San’s child. Also – Jin Guan and Jang Ui!

I think things ended up being a bit rushed in the last episode, and the pacing was a bit off the last few weeks. Editing was probably the biggest flaw in the drama for me! I feel like important scenes were left out, and others were stretched.

I couldn’t wait and downloaded it from another site that already has the subs. I’ll watch it on Viki again. I felt that Dan and Rin needed closure as well.

Right? Even Jeon and Minister Song’s plot lines were tied up in the end, and here I was waiting for (at least) a sibling farewell.

Omg THEY HAD A BABY? Need to get my hands on the novel asap!! But yeah a time jump would’ve been more fulfilling than that expository narration.
Oh man, I really loved Jin Gwan and Jang Ui’s expression when they had to shoot Rin – it legit fooled me even though in the back of my mind I was all “this is impossible! They can’t possibly kill him off in the finale!! what an outrage that would be!”

The pacing definitely sped up in this last few episodes – so many things went down so quickly, it was hard on the heart.
Re: editing, do you think the writer has any say in which scenes get cut? I think sound-wise, it was pretty alright; the music wasn’t excessive in crucial scenes.

Oh I think the music, sound, and cinematography in general were excellent! One of things that drew me in. I do feel like that they cut certain scenes that would have helped understand the story and some of the characters better. I wonder about the writer having a say too. Makes me want to see a director’s cut longer version or see the script 🙂

Please be more than a pretty face and redeem yourself in the finale because I want to believe there’s more to your character than what we’ve been shown thus far

Something I’ve always been curious about sageuk garb: are there many pockets in the sleeves or do they tie stuff to their bodies?? How is it that people can always hide stuff in those layers?

11

Yeah, I agree. Like how I want to hide my fats but the Lycra just wouldn’t.

I’ve been wondering that too! They just pull papers and random stuff out of their sleeves or the front of their shirt (?) and I’m here wondering where I can get magic sleeves like that.

    6
    3

Me three! It’s like, instead of a magician hat, they have these magic sleeves and I’m amazed every time they pulled something out. Hmm.. I’m going to ask my Korean friend the next time I see her kekeke

Right? It’s so useful! No wonder people hardly carried bags unless they were embarking on some journey!

And not just simple papers— a book! HAHAHA! I so wonder too.

Regarding traditional Korean clothing, the Hanbok*, did not have pockets–in the sleeves or anywhere else
    https://amp.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/3806o6/did_asian_clothes_have_pockets_inside_the_sleeves/

Also, I’ve worn hanbok. It’s just like a big clothe so I guess people just keep stuff to their bodies, which is doable given the bulk of the outfit

    2
    2

Also, I think its become a sageuk plot contrivance to always expect someone has something up their sleeve – literally 😂

      4
      0

Oooo so like, you can tuck stuff in between the layers? They just fit snugly?

      1
      1

You can keep papers, knives, whatever in normal sleeves pretty much like you can (if you want to) in a modern blazer, you just have to be careful in moving your arms. The one with the longer upper garment (for queens, concubines, etc), women keep their arms crossed so they can really hold something in their hands

        0
        0

What’s interesting is how sometimes the people are running, moving the arms this way and that, or heavily involved in a sword fight ….. yet nothing falls out of the sleeves. Minutes later, however, out comes the secret document or whatever else that is of importance. Hmmm.

There’s really no hope for this guy, huh? How did their father raise the worst and best brother ever?

What needs to happen in next week\’s finale:
1. Rin being fine & out of the capital (can\’t imagine what Won will have to go thru if not)
2. San finding peace
3. King waking up & being the Dad Won needs

3

I realise belatedly this doesn’t tell us if Rin survives… HOW CAN I WAIT A WEEK AFTER THAT ENDING
