Beanie level: Wrongly accused fugitive

Record of Youth (1): Someone please confirm – is that the same house they used on R88?? The exterior and interior looks identical!

Funny they used that house on 2 PBG shows. 🥰

I was thinking the same thing but also I thought maybe it’s just supposed to look like any older, run-down house in Seoul, haha!

LOL! I had the exact same question!

    2
    0

I remember that the houses and the entire neighborhood of R88 was a set built for the show. I remember also reading that it was torn down after shooting wrapped up. But the production company of RoY and R88 are the same, so maybe they drew inspiration from the Choi house in R88? 😬

I haven’t watched RoY, so I don’t know how the house in RoY looks like. But I recall that one of the houses in Reply 88 was an actual house, a former president house and is a cultural property. Maybe they used the same house?

Record of Youth (1): Park Seo Dam, I can totally relate. PBG looks so amazing!

Alice (4): Well, at least that’s ambitious. I dunno how exactly they’re gonna be doing this in 16 episodes though!

Do You Like Brahms (1-2): It’s just the first two episodes and I find myself falling in love with these two characters – one at the top of his game but not really, the other almost rock bottom but still striving to achieve her dreams. Two very different people in different stages of life meeting at a happy middle. I’m so excited where this show leads us. And though it doesn’t have a lot of pomp and circumstance, it doesn’t need to – it has enough heart and heartwarming charm to fill the gap.

14

I’m wanting to like it, but I need it to speed up and something to happen. I mean, I can see where the story with the leads is going but I need less looking into the void with pity.
I loved we are told the story from both points of view. It was different and I liked it.
I need another week to decide, because I desperately want to like it.

I’m in the same boat as you! I thought the start lacked energy and I’m not sure I can deal with something this slow for too long :/ But the music selection has been terrific – the violin and piano piece was stunning. They’ve. done a far better job with the music (selection and performance) than “When the weather is fine” did, so far, at least.

      3
      1

I love the classic pieces they are playing, but for me in When the weather is nice the music was another character (as well as the light), not only the classic pieces.
But you are right when you say the performance is better.

        1
        1

I’m ignoring the non-classical pieces in this show, which hasn’t really struck me so far.

I think I’m a bit overwhelmed with really fast-paced shows this airing season like FOE and Alice, that I’ve been wanting to see something a bit slower and more melo. Hope you like it, but if you don’t, that’s definitely okay too. 🙂

I already hate the second lead female though.

    1
    2

She’s very hatable, IMO. I mean, she’s always with that annoyed look on his face, while his cheerful boyfriend (who obviously has no social intelligence at all to see her girlfriend is totally indifferent to him and that his best friend is in love with his girlfriend) plays around like a puppy she’s just like a stick. I foresee tragedy already.
The same thing goes to the the other triangle: cheerful ex girlfriend who still loves ex boy friend and plays the cool ex and he lets her. Maybe the cheerful ones should be together and the ones pretending to have an interior life so profound that makes them sad can be together and she can see some more cute interactions between the leads.

      2
      1

Too many triangles. this is what is making me hesitate about this show.
I wonder if it will improve once they get onto campus and return to university classes etc.

Second female lead is depressed and doesn’t know what she wants. That’s not helping the situation.

Besides the music, being able to listen to Kim Min Jae’s voice is pretty much what is really keeping me going on the acting front so far.

Gosh. I smell manipulation in the coming eps from her.

      2
      1

Hahaha, she’s already manipulating the two boys – I won’t be surprised if she’s going to keep on doing it. Though I’m sort of shutting myself off from her first and trying to concentrate on the leads because they’re actually the good parts of the show. I wish her arc wont be as big.

FOE (11): I feel like I say that each episode of this show is better than the last, and it always is! But this episode – WOW, JUST WOW at Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won. What a performance 👌 🙌

I couldn’t agree more. I’m still emotional over yesterday’s ep.

    3

I am no longer in any doubt about whether or not DHS is a good dude or not.

The final 30 minutes of episode 11 is just a whirlwind of emotion. MCW and LJG are owning this drama so much. Their performances, and the characters they portray, are really powerful in this. I hope it continues to be this amazing.

WIWTMB (4): I think I know how they’re gonna make Ji Soo the ML. If they pull this off well, I think this show might turn out great.

When I was the Most Beautiful (3): Not enjoying this toxic masculine energy.

1
6

hoping you are referring Jin here… cause Seo Jin has made me hating HSK so bad.
She has made it clear already soooooo many times and he still pushing him in her life.

    0
    2

TBH, I think this episode triggered me. I feel the toxicity for both brothers honestly, because though Hwan is /really/ sweet, they both just assume they’re the better match for her. That argument they both had in today’s episode fighting over her like she’s an object, feels like two boys fighting over a shiny new toy! They never considered how she felt at all, getting angry or persistent when she rejects both their advances. If they really, genuinely liked her, they would have backed off. Maybe given her some time to think things though, maybe still helped her with her problems (with NO condition of her returning their affections). Maybe that could’ve convinced me they’re in the right track. Right now I’ve seen none of that.🤷

      1
      1

i agree with you completely… just that i dont smell toxicity from hwan rather overly sweetness… cause he is not phys forcing himself in her life, instead his advances are kind of emotionally forceful.
but in jin’s case he is overstepping all the boundaries and that what i sensed as toxicity.
still i second ur overall observation and judgement of both the male characters.
i hope they get better in future episodes.

Into the Ring (16): Timely, but still fun and modern, ITR was one of the best dramas to come out of 2020.

2

Agree! I was looking for something entertaining and light but heart-warming as well and ITR hit all the spots! I randomly came across ITR and watched it without any expectation and woah, it’s now one of my current top 5 of 2020. I also discovered the talented Nana and can’t wait to see her in other roles 😀

I totally agree!! This is just a little gem, not only the story, all the characters, the music, the visuals. I’m totally in love with it.

FOE (7): Who is the sister covering up for? Her confession doesn\’t seem real IMO. She\’s denying it\’s Hyun Su which, we\’ve been sure of for quite some time. But the real culprit seems to be a mystery still.

5
3

I had the same thought! It seems like an oddly contrived confession. It’s also out-of-the-blue. She’s had years to admit she did something wrong.

I have a theory which I’ve posted a few other places that the Baek family is probably somehow involved in the serial killing. The sound in the background of the cassette sounds just like the sound of the nail clipper Dr. Baek was using while talking to Hyun-soo and Hyun-soo himself seems to have recognized the noise as something which he had recently heard. As well, the mom made some really weird comments about how math make Eun-ha go crazy and would kill Eun-ha and her mom, which is a weird comment and seemingly points to the real Hee-seong; as well, she said something odd to Eun-ha about whether Ji-won hit her.

    2
    2

Only problem, though, is the tempo of the nail clipping vs the sound in the background. The sound in the background is very fast.

      1
      0

Will definitely be open to that theory! Cause I’m soooo clueless at this point hahaha

FOE (6): Soooo love Moon Chae Won in this and the previous episode. I love the conflict within her – like she loves her husband and that will always come first. But in the back of her head she\’s conflicted because she\’s all but sure he\’s also a criminal she needs to take down. Takes a lot of good acting to be able to pull that off really well. #AllTheThumbsUp

9
3

I agree so much! I love the character and I love MCW’s portrayal of the character.

I also take a slightly different interpretation. IMO, unlike everybody else, I think she actually isn’t sure he’s a criminal. I think her experiences with him – seeing him raise their daughter, seeing him with her, etc. – lead her to think the characteristics which everybody else have ascribed to him and which are are part of the argument to the effect that he committed the deed don’t match. I think she’s afraid he’s a criminal, but I also think she has genuine doubts and is at war with herself over what is more likely to be true.

I gotta say, as well, that this something I really love about this character. It may be a bit odd to say, but I think there’s something sort of nice about the fact that she loves him even in spite of her suspicions. As you note, it’s sort of admirable that she manages to maintain an equilibrium between her emotions and her rationality, allowing neither to win out.

    6
    1

AGREED! Wrote the original post while I was watching – just finished now and you’re so right! In this case, she’s both detective and wife, but it doesn’t mean one would rule out the other. I love that those two roles actually help her find discrepancies in his character. How could he be this heartless psychopath, when he looks like he genuinely adores Eun Ha? I feel like that’s also one of the reasons why she still chooses to love him, and is trying to solve the case before anyone else (in the hopes that she may find him innocent).

      4
      1

Exactly! Why would he love Eun-ha so unconditionally? Why would he have put himself in danger in the shed? Etc etc.

I feel like she knows what kind of man he is better than he knows himself. He says this stuff about how he only shows her what she wants to see and he makes it seem like his relationship with her is almost transactional (he stays with her because she makes the hallucinations go away), but in reality he’s the one mistaken. He really loves her, even if he doesn’t realize it, and I think the reason the hallucinations go away is because the hallucinations (IMO) represent an inner conflict within himself over the type of person he is vs the type of person he has come to view himself as being (because of how other people have treated and, maybe, because of how his dad treated him), and when he’s with her he doesn’t feel this conflict as acutely because she doesn’t think he’s some evil psychopath.

Is he a normal dude? No way. We’ve seen him do some questionable stuff. But I hesitate to describe him as ‘bad’ or as ‘evil’ because I think there is a good bit of moral complexity/ambiguity about him. I think he can be vengeful/vicious on occasion and doesn’t seem to care in the slightest for most people besides himself, his wife, his daughter, and his sister, but I’m not sure I would call him dangerous. We’ve seen that he’s had so many opportunities to seriously hurt other people so far and, despite those opportunities, has refused to take those opportunities, often turning the other cheek in the process.

    I still don’t think she’s Mom. Mom’s sister?

Yeah. Also, beanies pointed out that even if one had changed her face, your personality will be a dead giveaway. Nurse Park was quite different from what we know Mom. 🤔

Hope she is not the mother. My sister and I think she could be a relation. Or there might be some other explanation.
