Beanie level: Noble idiot

#2020 Round Up Day 8: the OTP you didn’t think you’d adore

When I first saw the prompts for the roundup I was sure for this one I would pick Jun and Ra Ra from Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol because I was unfamiliar with the actors but found them really cute together. Until that ending happened so instead my choice is Lee Chul San and Jung Sa Ha from Start Up
They are not even the second leads so I didn’t really expect to care much about them at the beginning , but I ended finding them adorable together.

#2020RoundUp Day 2- Female lead you will never forget

Ko Mun Yeong (Seo Ye Ji) from It’s Okay Not To Be Okay
Whatever you might think of her character, she is certainly memorable

#2020RoundUp Day 1 – The ML you will never forget (for better)

Moon Gang Tae (Kim Soo Hyun) from It\’s Okay Not To Be Okay

Runner up: Im Eun Seob (Seo Kang Joon) from When The Weather Is Fine/ I\’ll Find You On A Beautiful Day because I\’m in the process of watching this drama and so far I love his sweet nature, and I relate to his awkwardness and love of books.

Two of my favourites too, both warm and caring.
    And so damn beaytiful.

Color me shocked but I think the time skip in Start Up worked well. I\’m wary cause I have no idea what conflict they could possibly introduce for the last 3 episodes.

5
2

Since Dalmi needs developers, SST to the rescue. The next episode or two will probably be about Tarzan and getting that permit. Fine tuning the tech. We might even get Dosan and Jipeyong arm wrestling over who gets Dalmi in the end 😂

    1
    0

well they have the conflict right.. dosan thinks DM and JP are together as a couple

Was \”A Piece of Your Mind\” good? Was the ending satisfying? Or were the episode numbers cut because it was bad? Thinking of maybe watching at some point because it\’s short.

Please give it a try! Ep 1/2 was a bit weird but it gets better after that. I really enjoyed it.

    3
    1

Really, really weird, but then even if you’re not pretty sure of what you’re watching, you’ll just love it. Absolutely love it. It’s a beautiful poem made drama.

I loved it. If you don’t think too hard about main leads obsession with his ex, the drama is truly great.

Drama episodes are cut because of ratings, but poor ratings does not equal a bad show. Lots of great shows are underappreciated.

    Yes!

I loved it. I hope this doesn’t give too much away to say that it explored coping with loss and grief and how it could be mediated, either thorough technology or by others. I thought it was profound and beautiful.

I think that the DDSSLLS trolling could\’ve worked if it was a misunderstanding, like so many other things in this drama, and not an intentional lie on Jun\’s part. And resolved before the time skip.

10
8

And also maybe if there was less trolling and fake outs and more like genuine arcs to balance it.

    5
    1

True, some fakeouts were fun but at some point it became more about how many times can they trick the audience and less about proper story growth. Still, if they insisted on that last fakeout there were other ways they could have went about it without destroying Jun’s character. Maybe Ra Ra could have found out from haraboji that Jun is sick, called the hospital or Jun’s home and due to an error Ra Ra and us believe he is dead. Cue everyone mourning, but relatively soon after Jun shows up. He didn’t know everyone thought he died and was just too sick to get in touch with her. Or some other silly way to explain that plotline without making Jun a selfish jerk. I’m sure any of the beanies could come up with a less infuriating story for that twist than what we got.

I already dropped DDSSLLS after only 10 episodes. My prediction was that Lala will be kidnapped by gangs from episode 11 onwards, but unfortunately, my prediction totally wrong. It’s such a shame from DoSolLa writer despite PD worked well.

… and looked at DoSolLa ratings, it got fared well. I cannot believe that for me, DoSolLa ended up a fairly mediocre underrated show. So I escaped from the DoSolLa land into other Kdramalands already.

For those that watched both DDSSLLS and Search WWW, are we sure that was Jun at the end and not his evil twin from What\’s Wrong With My Mother In Law?:))

14
3

DDSSLLS really trolled us succesfully, it duped us into thinking we were watching a cute romcom when in fact we were watching a MAKJANG.

I think people are focusing too much on the love triangle in Start Up, does it even matter who ends up with who as long as they have a decent ending? It was fun when it was silly banter between the male leads, but now I really wish they would move away from it and focus on reuniting the team and all of them working together to succeed.

I\’ve realised that Lee Jae Wook is a really versatile actor. Often in dramas even good actors tend to portray different characters in a similar style, but I\’ve noticed with Jae Wook that his mannerisms, demeanor, expression and rate of speach changes from role to role. I\’ve seen him in Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol, When The Weather Is Fine, Search:WWW (where he plays more than 1 role), Memories of the Alhambra and he\’s different in all of them.

Start Up preview: This is not what I meant when I said I wanted Ji Pyeong and Do San to keep on bickering. Also I sense we are heading towards Noble Idiot territory with Dal Mi and her mentioning the letters to Do San.

3
3

Imagine Do San goes to SF because Dal Mi pulls a noble idiot and the episode is more crying… and episodes 13-15 is Do San believing that she’s always liked Ji-pyeong so just pointlessly brooding. We’ll have a melo!

    1
    2

I believe this is where it’s going.
Then JP will do some noble idiocy just to let DM and DS live happy ever after.
And of course In Jae won’t have relevant screen time and at the end she will be the one asking forgiveness to DalMi for being rude.
More or less that’s how I predict the ending.

      1
      0

Gosh, I really hope not, we’ve had plenty of crying lately. I hope we go back to the fun.

I’m really not into makjangs but I would totally watch a full lenght version of this one. That’s the best reaction to a seawed slap I’ve ever seen:))

The real OTP of this show:))

LOL, this and the 4cm height thing is like a running joke now.

8
6

Nam Joo Hyuk is what 6’2 right? Kim Seon Ho also seems tall too, like 6’0?? 4cm is about 1.5 inches, so he’s still in the taller than average height wise in Korea haha. Just had to get this ‘vital’ info out there!

    1
    1

Yeah, the actors both seem tall enough, which is why I find it funny that they keep squabbling over those 4 cm:))

      1
      2

Height complexes both of them haha? There is a thing that if a guy is taller than average 6’0 over, that even if their face is meh, that it makes them super attractive. It is like their height makes them hotter lol?

        1
        1

Haha, the is he hot or is he just tall debate. In this case both?

          0
          1

OMG, YES!! I’m so glad you brought it up b/c its def. that debate! Look, I’m not that vain, but I would be lying b/c their height can sometimes make them hotter. In Start Up, both guys are hot and tall, so its like double whammy! Seriously, where does Korea get all these attractive and tall actors lol?!

            1
            0

Just like how Im Ju Hwan make Eric looked like a midget in the Spies Who Loved Me

Spoilers DoDoSolSolLaLaSol: I think we are being duped and the wedding was not real. I have a theory that it\’s something to do with Seung-gi and Ha-Young\’s business proposal since we never got to hear their business idea and their reaction when Jun took Ra Ra was not happy, as opposed to Grandpa. As Jun\’s friends I\’m pretty sure they would cheer him on, not act dissapointed that he showed up.

4
4

Perhaps it has something to do with marriage? Like doing makeup for marrying couple?

    3
    0

Actually, this totally makes sense. Seung-gi is into filming and Ha-young is into makeup. Phew! Cleared several questions and exclamation marks off my head. Haha

    2
    0

I think so too. The IG post looks like marketing, joyful_wedding, so probably a wedding planner business.

    2
    0

Yeah, I think it’s something like that. Seung-gi and Ha-Young looked put out when Jun ran out with Ra Ra which makes sense if he interrupted their filming. Ra Ra just looked confused.

Ugh Start Up, why do you have to be one of those rare dramas that have a love triangle that actually works? As in both guys are worthy and kinda equally developed as characters. Usually with second leads you can tell straight away they don\’t really have a real shot at getting the girl, and there\’s always a weak side of the triangle, but here if I didn\’t know better I would say things could go either way.

    TT_TT

This drama is so unfair to us… I want them both to have Dal Mi but I mean she cant be split him half, so crazy idea would be they all remain single and friends forever… lol

    3
    1

OR just put her through one of those cave doors in dark and get 2 versions of her 😀

I like both guys which is rare with a love triangle. Because I like both guys, I wish they’d both forget romance and embrace the bromance. I just don’t buy that either are in love with Dal-mi though that could change, of course.

    3
    1

agree.. SH needs a family first and foremost.. and for him granny comes above everyone else..

he will be chill! and if IJ mends her ways.. i am sure that couple will work (given how much dalmi was in awe of her sister..i’d like to believe sis is ambitious but not a bad person)

Omg DoDoSolSolLaLaSol turned really dark really fast. Episode 10 is such a tonal shift it\’s giving me whiplash. Episode 11 please bring back the cute.

Agree with you. There was no need for this drama to be a melo!

The final scene of Ep 10 is so “Romeo & Juliet”.

IONTBO- I\’ve made up my mind that there\’s no way Nurse Park is truly Do Hui Jae unless that whole subplot is actually just a PPL for the Korean plastic surgery industry, in which case they are going to rival Shopping King Louie\’s Maxim Coffee for best PPL plot integration:))

9
2

IONTBO\’s representation of mental illness is not always perfect but I really appreciate their portrayal of Sang Tae. While the writers show the hardships and sacrifices a caretaker of someone with his condition faces they also allowed him to grow into an awesome character (how sweet was it that now Moon Young also gets an allowance from him?). And there\’s not enough words for praising Oh Jung Se\’s acting, he\’s amazing in this role.

24
3

He’s been amazing from the start but i love how he just flourished after being given the chance to be a real big brother.

    9
    0

The best kind of development was given to the best character of this drama. Oh Jung Se is simply phenomenal as ST.

    9
    0

He’s been so good in everything I’ve seen him in, this, Camellia and Stove League.

    4
    0

Mild spoilers-I bet the conversation between nurse Park and Sang Tae about Dooly and his fake dinosaur mom has deeper meaning. What if it relates to one of our characters? Maybe one of the trio was raised by a stepmom? I have a crazy theory that Sang Tae might not be actually blood related to Gang Tae but to Moon Young, that would explain the connection between the two moms. Or maybe it\’s nothing and I\’m reading too much into it.
