Beanie level: Chaebol’s poor doppelganger

I have been in awe all day at the news that they finally found the murderer that inspired “Memories of Murder”, Tunnel, Signal and Gap-dong, I honestly thought they would never capture him, Although..

.. I feel bad for the surviving families because he will not be procecuted for the crimes :(. I hope they make a documentary about it in the future.

I feel like even though South Korea changed the terms for its statute of limitations, it still needs to be revised so that there isn’t a limitation to the timeline for ALL murder cases

One hears of shootings at other places and it never crosses our mind that it will happen at home. When will the US wake up?

I have extremely low expectations. They did nothing after Sandy Hook.

It’s not a matter of if – it’s just a matter of when… and the US will never wake up to it.

The first one I will like to talk and recommend is Ha il Kwon, I think by default I have read almost all of his works and honestly after I finish one, he leaves me craving for more (there is one I will never read though, Sperman, no thanks xD). It’s just that the way he presents the story, the humor and the overall moral is what makes it worth reading his webtoons. So far I that I have read and recommend are: Annarasumara, After School War Activities (Duty after School), My Heart is Beating, and God of Bath. I read a comment once saying that he writes for dreamers and honestly I have to agree.
Annarasumara deals with the hardships of becoming an adult and having to conform to the norms of society. What makes a respectable and respectable adult in our current society? Should out current views of what adults can be be changed? This story also deals with the mental health issues that the pressure on the youth can cause. There is particularly one chapter that I couldn’t help but sympathize with the character, all he wanted was to leave the cold asphalt and run through the field of flowers ;-; . One thing to know about Ha il Kwon is that he sometimes uses metaphors, and the pictures shouldn’t be taken literally so if you see a character with a big head just keep in mind that his head is not really like that xD.
After School Activities… honestly the ending left me speechless and was with me days after reading the webtoon. I don’t want to give too many spoilers but believe me when I say that the first chapters are deceiving. In the first chapters we see humor and normal high school students but as the story progresses it becomes much darker. The premise is about high school students who are forced (they are promised easy university entrances) to participate in military training after these purple spheres appear and kill people around the world. The training and situations starts to take a toll on the mental health of the students and that is when the story becomes interesting.
My Heart is Beating, this story in particular won a place in my heart. The premise might not be for everyone but give it a try and you might find your next favorite story. The story is about a boy who loves and has an obsession with women swimsuits (the reason behind this is explained in the story) and after being caught by his teacher for taking pictures of girl students in swimsuits, he finds himself in a situation where he has to crossdress and is forced to join the new water polo team under the training of the same teacher. This story deals in particular with parent/children relationships and the importance of communication. I really wish this would get picked up for a mini drama or movie :(, I love it that much…
God of Bath,…where to start with this webtoon xD. How can a story of scrubbers be entertaining and heartfelt? Leave it to Ha il Kwon he knows how to do it. Honestly I almost dropped it after the first episode but I am glad I stayed and finished it because while the premise and humor where ridiculous at points it did what it was meant to do, it entertained me and while it did that also taught me a lesson. But honestly this webtoon was hilarious at points, I really have come to love this writers humor. This one was picked a couple years ago for a movie (lead was offered to Kim Young kwan) but it seems that as of now it has been abandoned 🙁 and I can kind of see why, the budget would have been huge.
Sorry for the long post this will be the first part I will write part two tomorrow :)….

I’ve read through Annarasumara and My Heart is Beating. Even without understanding all the symbolism, I could tell that there were deeper meanings at play. Tried reading God of Bath, but couldn’t get into it. Haven’t tried reading After School Activities.

I don’t blame you for God of Bath it’s not for everyone, in particular the humor, but I personally enjoyed it :). After School War Activities is good, although it was slow at times, I will probably read it again when I get the chance.

In recent years I have become addicted to webtoons, courtesy of line Webtoons xD. But it is kind of impossible not to become addicted to these stories and because it is a free platform (unless you want to read ahead) it’s partially guilt free (where does my time go, lol). Now I know that because of recent years and the popularity of adapting webtoons to kdramas, reading webtoons is most likely not a new concept to beanies in general. But I really wanted to take the time and maybe dedicate a little bit of it to some of my favorite Korean webtoon writers :), currently I have three that I have enjoyed their work so this will be a three part post where I will dedicate each to one of them.

I love Yoo is on hiatus for long time. Every friday I go to the website with a little hope to find a big surprise but nothing is there waiting for me 😭 As for now Age matters keeps me amused for 5minutes each wednesday.

I was reading I love Yoo and My Cold Blooded King (something like that). I didn’t know I love Yoo was on hiatus! I just didn’t have time to pick up where I left off. And I dropped My Cold Blooded King. Not a fan of fan service where female lead is paired up with literally all the hot looking guys in the story.

Age matters is like treating myself with an ice-cream. But I like the boldness of our heroine in I love Yoo. And I love the younger brother and of course Dieter. Who couldn’t?

Yeah I was also reading I love you and I wait for it to come back every week but because of quimchee’s situation it could take a while :(. I have to catch up on Age Matters but it amuses me too :), it’s like a kdrama to the t xD…

I know nothing about quimchee’s situation (?), hopefully everything will go better for her and get her passion back.

Teaser for “Hell is Other People” I am really excited for this one as I saw some of the webtoon and it looked interesting :D. I wonder how much will be changed…

Lol I couldn’t help but notice that they turned the products around so that the brand could’t be seen onscreen. Overall I am enjoying the show so far:)

This was such a sad and interesting interview. It’s a shame that Jang Ja Yeon didn’t get much justice even after the reopening of her case.

It also makes me wonder what really goes behind the scenes in the Korean industry. Although I am sure this treatment of woman isn’t exclusive to Korea as we have seen in recent years what has come out of Hollywood. I hope her book get picked up and made into a film and I hope that if it does it sparks something in Korean because the misogyny that has been exposed in recent years is appalling. Most recently the Seungri and Hidden cameras case and the fact that Song Hye Kyo keeps getting bashed for public appearances after the divorce with Song Joon ki.

Audio quality is not too great but I love her cover of this song. She has a bright future ahead of her and honestly as bad as this sounds I hope she leaves YG soon, she deserves better…

A cute short film about being a teacher. For a story like this I wish it was a full film since it could explore the topics with more depth but it wasn’t a bad short film as it is. I would honestly love to see a drama with a similar plot in the future…

Any Spanish speakers here? Does anyone else feel like the title \”Hotel Del Luna\” sounds and looks grammatically wrong? It\’s just that it has been bothering me for a while…

4
7

It is wrong. I’ve been complaining about it constantly.

    6
    1

I haven’t really seen complaints online so I though it was only me that wasn’t getting it ^-^, I haven’t seen your comments, but I am glad that I am not the only one. I guess it’s too late for them to change anything since the drama has already filmed ahead of schedule and it would be a lot of money….

      1
      0

It sounds wrong in Italian, too…

    2
    0

The letter “L” isn’t supposed to be there… It’s supposed to be “Hotel de Luna”

    2
    1

Yes the L is what’s wrong in the title. You would think they would do a little research if they were trying to use a different language…

      0
      1

Well, with the very current track record (i.e. “Angel’s Last Mission: Love”), research into something that’s actually a major theme/component of a drama isn’t the strongest feat of a drama’s production

        0
        0

Super wrong. Hotel de Luna or Hotel de la Luna would both be correct.

Love affairs in the afternoon remake ep 1
Koreans like to do things dramatically don’t they? xD, in the Japanese version she only hurt her wrist and on the remake, she had a fever, hurt her shoulder, fainted, was taken to the hospital by the male MC and was put on a neck brace. XD, I couldn’t help but laugh. But I guess him taking her to the hospital, buying her shoes (the shoes are important, keep an eye on them) and taking her home make him more of a catch than, “come look at this rare stink bug” of the original…

It’s good to be back in this community ^-^, I was away for almost a year and was absent from Kdrama land for that time too, with the exception of “Kingdom” and honestly I don’t have any hopes of catching up with all the dramas I have missed, and also since I was gone for so long it is taking me a while to get use to watching them again, lol. My uncle unfortunately passed away in August of last year and I went to spend some time with my grandparents so that they wouldn’t be alone so soon after that. The only internet access I had was on my phone or the occasional show I could download on my cousins wifi during the weekend, xp therefore I opted for more short programs and caught up on some anime shows I had on my watchlist and some shows my cousins were nice enough to recommend. I also caught up on a lot of webtoons and read the occasional manga, so I also did a lot of reading. But anyway a new college semester is going to start and I had to come back, although I can’t say I don’t miss them and worry for them, the good thing is that my aunts are close by.

Since I came back the only shows I have watched have been finishing the J-Drama “Love affairs in the Afternoon” since I read it is getting a Korean remake which airs on the 5th of July and I also watched the movie. I enjoyed the drama although not perfect I hope they fix some of the problems the original one had.I am just happy to get more mature drama to watch, sometimes they are just needed. Video below is one of the trailers. I am also currently watching “Sky Castle” since I heard so many good things about it I was anxious to watch it, currently in episode 7 and I am enjoying it. I am waiting for “Class of Lies”, “When the devil calls your name”, “Hotel De Luna” and “Strangers from Hell” (which kind of irks me that I can’t find an english translation xD)

Glad you’re back. So sorry about you uncle’s passing. Sky castle is a show I’ve been meaning to pick up. If you’ve not gotten too far, I could start it and watch with you?

Thank you and it’s good to be back :). Sure I don’t mind I am currently in episode 7 so I haven’t gotten that far, I was actually taking a break from it so if you want and if that gives you time to catch up?

Honestly I don’t find him too bad of an actor, I have seen worse, lol.

He’s not horrible, truly. Entirely watchable, and not just because he’s a cute puppy. It’s his ‘surprised’ expression that get me. But he is showing capability of showing subtle emotions otherwise, so I’ll keep watching.

Oh god, Sweet Comat is an adaptation of Girl’s of The Wild ?! The webtoon started as a sport story and ended up as a rom-com mess.

    Moonyoung was my fave tho.

    1
    2

Yes it is an adaptation, the scenarios are pretty close to the Webtoon but they did change some things. I read Girl’s of the Wilds a long time ago and never finished it but it started out great so I was curious about the adaptation…

Minseo came back already?!?! She just released Is Who a month or two ago!
I LOVE her dress! It’s so vibrant!
I think I need to listen to the song again. I got so distracted by the kids’ awesome parkour skills that I forgot to listen to the song 😆

I know I was also surprised and excited that she is back :). From what I read this was for a commercial so maybe that explains why she is back so soon, this is her year. Lol I did the same thing I had to listen to it twice because I was distracted by the parkour XD. I kept getting confused as the video continued, but in the end the video fits the song and the message quite well.
