So recently a beanie (I think @purplesheesh) posted about how she recommended 365:Repeat the year to a friend and she ended up watching the 365 day polish movie instead(lmao). This almost happened to my friend too lol. So I recommended 365:Repeat the year to her but she said that she heard it isn\’t good and I\’m like whooooo and whyyy and like whaaat? (Cuzz honestly I have only come across praise for the drama). I think anyone who generally enjoyes crime/thrillers genre (it\’s her fav) would enjoy the show and she goes on to say the polish one right? and I\’m like nooo hahahha the kdrama LMAO
Here\’s to more confusion between the two 😂

It\’s kind of unsettling how they are making Kang Tae a typical candy only it\’s a male. I really don\’t understand with dramas and their need to make leads pitiful. I have only ever watched one other drama portraying an autistic character in Catch The Ghost and there too, the autistic sister and her twin were orphans so naturally all the care taking and the earning burden fell on one single shoulder. Why can\’t an autistic character have more than one siblings and a set of parents completely well and alive? Why does the other non-autistic sibling has to be neglected by their mother? I have witnessed a family with an autistic kid very closely and I have seen how the mother makes so much effort to make sure that in the special care and attention that needs to be given to the autistic kid, her other kids are not ignored. And no the mother did not bring about more kids into the world after her autistic kid was born so that they can take care of their special needs sibling. There are still so many complexities to explore even with less pitiable leads, without dead parents. Ofcourse ouri Kang Tae is feeling burdened this episode because he too needs a break otherwise it can become too emotionally exhausting. If there were other siblings or/and parents we could have witnessed the other sibling taking over while Kang Tae caught a much needed break but then that would make him less pitiable and dramas have apparently sworn to never do that.

PS: I will need a proper explanation regarding what happened after Kang Tae ran off with his hyung in the wake of his mother\’s death because a 12(14?) year old with a special needs hyung surviving is too unrealistic to be believable. I hope there\’s a plausible explanation as to how he managed to survive (like maybe an older and responsible adult taking them in or smth), how he managed to arrange for their living quarters, their food, water, other basic necessities and how Kang Tae managed to complete his education. I need these answers show otherwise I\’ll be pretty disappointed.

7
6

I think a child looking after someone from his family isn’t unrealistic unfortunately. There are many such children who are deprived of their childhood when they have to look after someone. Just as an example I came across how an 8 year old was looking after a 4 year old in US detention center. So I get your point that for a kid without any guardian or help this is a very devastating scenario and hard to believe in, but this isn’t unrealistic unfortunately.

Regarding not having parents, it’s to make things more dramatic. While we think that they can certainly show comparatively normal families, as a writer it can turn out to be a little stale. So that extra thing can add some dramatic tension to the script and the characters lives. I remember once writing a script with not much drama for the characters and I was asked why were things the way they were. I wanted to make the whole setup look a little realistic but tgere are many answers tou need to give in a script for the choice of how your portray your characters.

One show that I thought could do with giving lesser problems to theads was I’ll find you when the weather is nice but I later found out how all that was necessary to give the characters a proper arc and a reason for their behavior, also to fill in the episodes.

    7
    2

You came across a child looking after a child in a US detention center and I agree that isn’t unrealistic, unfortunately. Here however, keeping in mind the scenario, I believe that Kang Tae taking care of his older Hyung as a child is unrealistic. If we shift the setting to that of a war wrought country or smth similar, it would be a lot more believable. However, dramas often like to do this because as you said it creates “drama” but the thing is I sincerely believe that we could have done without this part (small kid taking care of a special needs older Hyung alone). Narratively, this particular scenario is not really adding all that much to the story that a more realistic scenario wouldn’t have. On the contrary I would argue that it would have created a lot more depth and effect if KangTae was given to social services and Hyung could have been administered in a special needs vocational school. We could have witnessed adult Kang Tae then seeking out his brother, officially taking charge of him and moving in together.
Also I agree with the second part of your comment, about needing drama to create reason otherwise the story can be pretty stale.
I also know that the pitiable circumstances of KangTae annoying me here are not that uncommon in real life. I have personally heard about a quiet a few special needs kid being abandoned by their siblings after their parents death or living alone with their old mother/relatives who are unable to fully take care of them as they are old and alone. It breaks my heart but it is true. What really spurred my post was that having witnessed a family so close to me struggling and dealing with their special needs kid together, as family, it really annoyed me. Speacially the part where mom strokes Kang Tae’s hair and says “that’s why I brought in this world, so that you can take care of your brother”. I was fine with the dead parents and all but then this happened and its just making him tooo pitiable imo.

That moment was contrived and exaggerated, I think kdramas do this on purpose when they want the audience to forgive a character for something. This is about KT’s feeling resentful about taking care of his brother, it goes against filial duty so he must have an acceptable reason to feel this and still be the nice guy.

        2
        1

You are right. I just want to say that in real life you can have both of your parents and more siblings and your mom doesn’t really bring you in this world to take care of your special needs sibling but you can still feel, at times, resentful of your brother cuzz after all you are human and having an autisitc sibling does change a lot of dynamics within the family and with others and it does effect your life. But Like you said, in a drama, they need an acceptable reason for the lead to feel this way (and also to bring in the sympathies) and still be the good guy.

“It\’s kind of unsettling how they are making Kang Tae a typical candy only it\’s a male.” This is the reason holding me back from watching this drama.

Was I the only one wondering how/why Moon Young slept on the bed without worrying about the layers of dust that should be there!?

I would have died in my sleep not because of the sleep paralysis but due to asthma after an allergic reaction

I would have died the minute I entered the house, which by the way had the cleanest and brightest floors ever.

You were certainly not the only one!

    4
    0

Nah uh uh bro you weren’t the only one. As an hyperallergic person who sniffs and bloats even at the ripple of curtains I was thinking during the entire castle scene how she didn’t even gasp for air in all that dust. I would need to be sent to ER after a walk in such condition.

    2
    1

Had the same thought. But it looks as if the Interior of the castle has beeN maintained? No dust, no spiderwebs, no fallen roof, no fungus or mold, … So, unused, but not abandoned?

    0
    1

Hmm if this was reality or even a book your explanation would seem very plausible but this is dramaland so I think it’s simply that dust, mould etc just doesnt exist here lol.
To add weight to my point, because of all the trauma associated with it, Moon Young doesn’t seem the type to want to maintain the castle. I mean, she said her father was dead so she doesnt even care for him why would she care for an old castle deeply linked with her worst nightmates?

      1
      1

        There in lies the tale…?

Actually, I suspect you’re right, but I think it would make for a more interesting tale if there was a reason for her to maintain the castle.

        1
        0

I was expecting a coughing fit when she dropped down onto the bed bit I guess her personality scares even the dust away.

    9
    2

You won’t believe it but I actually coughed when she fell on the bed. Maybe it was some kind of visual placebo. I need to research how visual placebo affects allergic reaction if that’s even a real thing!

      4
      1

I was expecting a cloud of dust when she did that. I laughed when there wasn’t one.

@MeloMe I’m I the only one who thought: You’re really going to sleep in a haunted/creepy house? 😱

    3
    2

“The haunted” never bothered me anyway… But dust is the bane of my life 🙃

      2
      1

Loon-young is scarier than any ghosts that might be haunting that house. They’ll be afraid to sleep when she’s around, not the reverse. Even the dust bunnies head for the hills when she approaches πŸ™‚

        3
        1

Heh you weren’t alone. I would have run for my life rather than set foot in that dark and seemingly haunted castle tho I do think because Moon Young herself is dark and twisty, she being undaunted by the castle was inline with her character.

      1
      0

You’re not alone. It grossed me out.

    2

I felt like having a sneezing fit. I have bad allergies and that would be the death of me.

But did you notice that house didn’t seem dusty the next morning? I predict that the house is going to seem progressively more livable as MT changes.

OHMYGOD you guys I just watched ep 13 of misaeng and I just love it sooo much I cant help it. This episode was sooo GOOD (it’s the Christmas one) and I just feel so proud of Geu Rae he’s come such a long way. From almost crying because of what he went through in his initial days to almost shedding happy tears and squealing in excitement for his growth I have come a long way!! I feel so excited and just want to gush about all these characters so MUCH. Chief Oh, Dong Shik Young Yi, Seok Yul and Baek Ki❤

-Loved the awkward sauna scenes with Baek ki and his boss Kang deri nim
-Love how enthusiastically Chief Oh greets Young Yi each time
-Love how from being the guy who entered through connections armed with with nothing but a GDE, Geu Rae becomes the dare devil who dares to suggest an outrageous item as well as a very unconventional mode of presentation. PPL WERE ACTUALLY SEEKING HIM OUT FOR HIS ADVICE AHHH 😆😆
-Love Chief Oh’s Christmas card for Geu Rae
-Love the budding friendship/camaraderie between our newbies (the scene where all of them enter the company together near Christmas and when they go up the elevator smiling and laughing AHHH I CANT😭🤩) and love Seok Yul for always gathering the newbies together 🧡
-And ofc love how chief Oh “trips” ppl😂
-Lastly the ending montage of scenes this episode was soo well done OMYGOD I loved it!!!

I also know that because this episode was so heartwarming, the next epsiode is going to be equally hard for everyone so imma hold of watching and savour all the heart and the warmth we got this episode🧡❤

You’re watching this finally!!! I’m not even surprised that you like it heh. Misaeng was ahead of its time in story and production values in 2014. If I’m not wrong, the success of Misaeng paved the way of more realistic and slice of life dramas we see these days.

Yes I’m finally watching it and I don’t even regret not watching it earlier. I was in a particular sort of mood and this drama was just perfect for that🧡. Saving My Ajusshii and Forest of Secrets for a time when I’m particularly craving these sort of dramas heh.

Ayyy this was such a fun review. I laughed out loud so many times and I know I tend to repeat myself a lot but I’m glad these two are married cuz I ship them💜. The way she rounds up on him for a short HBD instead of a full greeting on her birthday and when they talk about Ik Jun being too perfect and the number of pens that get lost in a black hole ahahaha😂
I also like her analysis of the flashback scene(s)👍

Their comment about Ikjun is spot on! He’s unrealisticly perfect, they should have created the character with moderation 🤣.

I somewhat finished Hosplay by watching their reviews. Even when I dropped the actual drama after ep 10, I maintained watching their reviews. I think they are fantastic reviewers. I’m more on the husband side when it comes to the romance parts in HP. The clues and signals just fly past me. Hahaha

They are so awesome. They complement each other so much. It’s inspiring to see them so affected by the patients and Doctor Ha even carries them after the episode is over. There is still good in this world.

Best Drama confession

Hospital Playlist– Even though we don’t know where our lead Song Hwa stands, Ik Jun’s confession when they both are eating together at his home was smooth! It definitely tops all confessions hehe

At eighteen- Su Bin’s confession was so sweet and embarrising and brave!! I was soo happy squealing and all XD

Reply 1994- I just love that scene when trash oppa runs to Na Jung and kisses her. Yaaaay

Since IJ’s confession was all over the wall only a few weeks ago, I’m instead posing Su bin’s confession video💜

The ending involving the package made me sad though. I hope it’s not what it seems. (It’s probably not. Like most things, it’s probably the show creators teasing us with the possibility of something that wont actually happen.)

Drama cliche that you never tire of

-Forehead kisses– I feel like this cliche can even do magic between a couple with the most unmagical chemistry! There\’s just smth so sweet and pure about it!!

-Man requesting the FL\’s hand instead of just grabbing it!– tho admittedly it\’s not a cliche since it\’s not that common but a lead who does this always wins a few point with me.

DAY– 28
Drama cliche that you cannot stand

Mostly I don\’t have a problem with cliches as long as they are done well. I\’ll like a good love triangle in one drama and be exasperated because of it in another. So it just needs to be written well I guess. There are a few exceptions tho. I don\’t think I can ever stand for wrist grabs, FL being dragged away and forceful kisses.

DAY–24
Best Drama OST
(part 2)

The second OST I have been obsessed with these days is “Introduce me a good person” from Hospital Playlist.

“I want to be consoled in the arms
Of someone with pretty eyes who has cried
Because of a break up atleast once
If only I could lean on the shoulder
Of someone with beautiful hands
And forget my loneliness”

I really like the lyrics to this song and i remember after the epsiode aired I tried looking for the song. Joy’s version was everywhere so it wasn’t hard however the eng subs were bad. Not a single video had coherent subs so I waited for swoon to release the band’s version cut from the epsiode (because the episode had good subs) but they didn’t. I even tried looking for the original version hoping it would have better translated lyrics. I almost gave up but a few weeks later i finally found the cut scene from the epsiode
Yay for that!

This is the link for the original version (no eng subs tho :(, If someone knows of one with good eng lyrics that make sense, pls lemme now) –>
