I binged “just between lovers” in 2.5 days. It’s been ages since I stayed up till five, six in the morning to finish a drama but JBL made me do it. It also gets an honorary mention for being the first kdrama to make me cry (Tho only in the last episode).
So I’m just going to jot down random stuff I liked about the drama and things I felt it could do without.
1- I love unique settings in dramas. The behind the scenes of search engines and internet in Search Query: WWW, the male lead being a sound artist in AOHY, and the architectural-lish-construction-ish setting here was very interesting to watch.
2- I liked how Yoo Jin wasn’t our typical SFL at all. Tbh I liked her more than I liked Joo Won, the SML. There was so much growth in her character. Also, Joo Won’s character reminded me a lot of Kim Moon Ho from healer. There are a lot of similarities between the two.

3- I wasn’t frustrated with Gang Doo trying to push Moon Soo away because it was true to his character. Him believing that he isn’t good enough for Moon Soo was believable with the kind of self destructive life he has lived. But I was frustrated with Moon Soo trying to push him away in the end. I understood her when she was angry and sort of hated herself for being the first to be rescued but to push him away felt like need less angst to me. I also sorta didn’t understand at first why Moon Soo was running away/ couldn’t look into Gang Doo’s eyes after she found Sung Jae Oppa’s keychain and mobile in his drawers (I love how Gang Doo clung onto her then). But then i realized that while Gang Doo’s way of coping up with pain was to seek out fights to numb the pain in his heart, Moon Soo closed herself up emotionally. She felt terribly guilty that she caused two families life long pain since if she hadn’t invited Sang Tae oppa to the mall he wouldn’t have died and Gang Doo wouldn’t have to bear with the trauma of being trapped with a dead body for two (or was it three?) days. But imo this arch could have been concluded after both of them visited SJ Oppa’s home. There was no need for her to push Gang Doo away further because “she was rescued first”. Instead we could have got beautiful moments of both of them spending time together.
4- I honestly didnt really believe that Gang Doo would die when his condition was first revelaed. Ig because I haven’t really watched kdramas with sad endings?. It was only in the last episode that i came to accept that he really could die and I was crying ughh. Thankfully he survives.
5- Also want to mention Gang Doo’s sister. Why did I understand her soo much? She was so alone it makes me feel sad. Gang Doo had many amazing ppl by his side as is evident when there are so many volunteers willing to donate their livers for him. But his dong saeng was truly alone. How she collapsed when she saw the test results that she couldn’t donate, how desperately she was running around here and there trying to find doners for him, convincincing surgeons to perform the surgery and clinging onto hope it’s truly heart breaking and yet so fulfilling at the same time 💔❤

PS: Is it wrong that I sort of wanted a scene with Gang Doo and Moon Soo together visiting the bio town and the memorial park after its completion? I just thought it would mean how both of them have come a long way in their healing journey.

This is such a beautiful recap and made me tear up just reading it! JBL is one of the best dramas I’ve seen and this post just makes me want to rewatch.

Ahh JBL, how I love this drama! I loved how they showcased PTSD. And I absolutely loved Yeo Jin too! I especially liked how she became friends with KD and how he told her she was such an amazing woman that men weren’t brave enough to approach her. You don’t get budding friendships between the ML & secondary characters often.

I just love your review as it coincides almost perfectly with my own thoughts when watching. Glad you enjoyed it!

This was a great show. And yeah, your last scene would have been nice too! I thought they overdid the ending / last couple of episodes, but for the rest it was great through and through, and stays in my top 10 for now.
This was also the show in which I started girlcrushing on the stunning Yoon Se-ah (as Ma-ri). Hehe.
