Beanie level: Eunuch in drag

Finally get to watch “The Face Reader”. Lee Jung Jae never caught my attention in anything until he turned Grand Prince Suyang into a hot smexy villain.

So “Legend of Haolan” will premiere on November 15th! I am so excited to be transported back in time and witnessing the reunion of Qianlong and Yingluo. They are so cute together.

Aside from the historical element which always fascinates me, I am most anticipating “Legend of Hoalan” for the reunion of Wu Jinyan and Nie Yuan. With these two emerging as one of the most beloved on-screen couples this year and Fox Group getting international distribution rights, so fingers crossed that there will be English subs.

Finally completed “Story of Yanxi Palace” and still reeling over it. Maybe I should consider writing an epilogue as in the theme of this month for this drama. I am missing all the cuteness of Qianlong and Yingluo already.

Highly recommend it. Severely addictive. But again, there’s the sub issue.

Alternatively, you can watch while visiting soompi. The forum members are really nice. They assisted to translate whatever scene you wish to understand.

“Story of Yanxi Palace” drags a bit in the later quarter half. But I am still smitten simply for every scenes of Qianlong and Yingluo.

I want to watch this cause the costume looks awesome but doesnt feel like making a long term commitment tho.

It won’t be a long term commitment. I finished it in 2 weeks 😜.

        I vouch on this.

This series is so addictive. I was anticipating Ruyi, since it was heavily promoted but this came out of nowhere and stole the thunder.

really? major props to you and other beanies who has the same tenacity tho.
I’m still havent able to go back to my pre-drama slump time.
No I cant even keep up with my 4 currently airing drama~
        lmao

I must commend the actor who played Qianlong. Surprisingly charismatic and good despite not the best looking out there.

    1
    1

I am with you on this. And since I am watching Ruyi too, Nie Yuan’s version is far superior compare to Wallace Huo whom is painful to watch.

I agree that Fuheng is the best looking guy in the entire series but the rookie actor lacks experience, thus not having enough presence for me to notice him even with that good looks. Even when he tragically got his girlfriend stolen by the Emperor, I still can justify Qianlong’s reason for doing so. LOL

Since you mentioned the look, I came across an interesting comment recently. As commented, should Chen Jianbin (the actor who played Yongzheng in Zhenhuan) was casted as Qianlong, many would actually cared less over the relationship between Yingluo and Qianlong, which is one of the main selling points of “Yanxi”. Thankfully, they got it right with Nie Yuan.

I am not trying Ruyi because I just don’t feel like watching the same thing although I know the take is absolutely different in each. Strangely, I ain’t surprised that Wallace Huo isn’t as good as Nie Yuan. I can even imagine how Wallace is acting out the role. Stoic and handsome. Okay, maybe he smiles but rarely. Am I right?

Nie Yuan is convincing as the emperor Qianlong who tries his best to be fair to his women but obviously falls short. I was surprised Nie Yuan can be commanding as an emperor and yet playful in those moments with Yingluo. Most actors who play emperors have to juggle these as part of their roles. I’ve seen some good ones and Nie Yuan certainly made an impression.

I feel bad for puppy Fu Heng but I always find Yingluo’s personality matches Qianlong step for step. And they are just so cute together. I am definitely Team Emperor.

Oh, I am so loving “Story of Yanxi Palace”. And I love this closing song so much. Always bring me back to the scene where Qianlong picks up frozen Yingluo in the snow.

Oh! This was recommended to me. Are there subs up somewhere?

Unfortunately, kseries only have up to 2 episodes of English subbed. It’s going to be a long wait to get complete subbed version. I got to watch this drama as it currently aired with subtitles on our local paid cable tv with 7 episodes per week.

At the same time, I read general recap (too bad until episode 44 so far) at https://onetruedrama.blogspot.com/search/label/Yan%20Xi%20Gong%20Lue

Out of desperation, I still check the raw version (though I skipped a lot due to not being able to understand) but my bestie (a chinese speaker) is so kind – she explained in detailed most of the later episodes for me.

        *weeps*

A Chinese pal recommended it. Well, if she wants me to watch it, she can help a gal out, right? Thanks for the info, though!

That’s the worst thing about watching C-dramas. Many do not have subtitles.

Otherwise, you can try “Ruyi’s Love in The Palace”. This one is with subs. The setting period and characters are the same (involving the ladies of Qianlong’s harem) but the direction of each characters are the opposite.

Personally, I prefer Yanxi a lot lot more. IMO, Wallace Huo’s Qianlong is inferior compared to Nie Yuan’s and the plot is a bit too slow for my liking.

Been ages since a C-drama really got me invested. Really loving “Story of the Yanxi Palace” so far.

Are you watching it with subs? If so, which site?

Unfortunately, I have only watched the subbed version up to episode 19 as the show is currently airing on our paid cable tv. So, out of desperation, I tagged along my chinese speaking friend and had her watching the raw version and doing the translation for me. LOL.

Imagine, the pain of having to wait for 10 weeks to get the full subbed version. Sob. Sob.

Im and Kyung is one of my favourite OTP. When they were more kisses in BTS than in the actual scene 🙂 “Live Up To Your Name” still one of the best romcoms in recent years and a true gem of 2017.

Cheesy 101. I have nothing against large age-gap pairing but Lee Byung Hun + Kim Tae Ri just not selling it for me. Please just stay as comrades and dear show, kindly start moving.

I am wholly supporting this. Always wanted Jun Ki to pair up with Ha Ji Won (preferably a sageuk) but not before Jun Ki stop losing weight and add up those extra pounds. He is wayyy too skinny now.

I vote for him to gain some weight too!

And I’ve only seen Ha Ji Won in Hospital Ship, so yea, I need something better to really see her act.

    I WANT THIS TOO.

They’d be so awesome and kickass. Sageuk, please, for the extra bloody kickass scenes.

Omg, YES. I’m ALL over this pairing. Now I kinda wished he was in that new drama with her. I’d love to see LJK in a sageuk again, but idk about HJW. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her in one. I also agree with how bone-y he looks now. I just hope he’s healthy!

Heh. I know I am bias but this is the only acceptable cheesiness in sageuk, because this is HYUNG SIK. Only puppy allowed to be cheesy 😻

11
2

He makes the cheese look and sound good!!!! And I KNOW FOR SURE that it’s only HIM who can do it because he did it for the entirety if “Strong Woman, Do Bong Soon” and I didn’t cringe or feel second-hand embarrassment at all 🙂

So totally agree. His cheesiness here made me wanted to do laundry so badly.

I obviously underestimated Kim Eun Sook when I thought she couldn’t add cheese in a sageuk because here she did it. I cringed watching this scene 😖. It’s so corny.

Yikes! Now that you mentioned it, I just realized that the lines have that sexual connotation.

It is still World Cup Season after all. Many bashed Zlatan as arrogant but I simply find him adorably humorous. I love his appearance here (Corden is always brilliant), so effortlessly funny.

I love that Zlatan simply created this persona and goes all in with it…I can’t dislike him!

Though I dropped Lawless Lawyer by episode 6, I still feel very happy because FINALLY, my Lee Jun Ki has a legit hit drama. It’s been long overdue. Yay, for the ratings!

Feel funny watching him deliberating over the phone tapping issue in “This Week, My Wife Will Have An Affair”. Obviously, he did not have any problem being wiretapped 2 years later in “My Ajusshi”.

Could this really be happening? Kim Nam Gil returning to dramaland sooner than expected? Hot guy as a hot-blooded priest? Count me in.

I have read the book which is one of my all-time faves. Thank goodness the movie adaptation is equally amazing. Wonder if this will I ever get translated into a drama.

Beautiful healing drama indeed. My top favourite moment is when Dong-Hoon looked out from the window of his van and saw Ji-An standing at the sidewalk. Without words, their gazes were everything.

I just show the end episode of My Mister to my boyfriend and now his time for this weekend is not for me but to marathon from first episode 😂

    2
    1

Wow. I am impressed that the ending is that impactful till your bf could consider marathoning from episode 1. Hope you can share with me what he actually think and feel of My Mister. It would be nice to see this wonderful drama in a man’s POV.

      1
      2

Sure, I’ll let you know about his POV when he finish this. Oh and, he really like Park Ho San character as Sang Hoon, because he play in Prison Play Book before. My BF really enjoy the work from PD Shin and My Mister’s PD, the first drama that made him into Kdrama was Good Doctor, He like Joo Won after that.
The list of drama that my BF watch are Good Doctor, Nodame Cantabille, Shopping King Louise, I remember You, Misaeng, Reply 1988, Three Days, Prison Playbook, Beautiful Mind, Chief Kim, Dear My Friends, Master’s Sun, Pinocchio, Romantic dr Kim, Secret Forest and Yong Pal. Hahahahahaha. I’m laughing so much when I write this, he watched so many drama, even he like running man (before Gary left) and Big Bang.

        1
        1

You are lucky to have a bf who appreciates k-dramas because over in my place, most men just brushed off k-dramas simply for the prejudice that they are all about romance.

Just a small confession but I feel very connected to My Ajusshi partially due to my own romance history with an ajusshi which ofc not a happy ending. I tried to get that ajusshi to watch this show but that will only happen thousand years later. So, i wont actually know men’s perspective on the beautiful bond in this drama until probably, your bf finally completed his marathon watch. Lol

          1
          3

Wow. I’m really curious now to know about your romance story, only if you feel comfortable to share of course. I mean considering how much we hear about the taboo of having age gap relationships, I feel pretty interesting that it’s not the case when it actually happens. Because I saw chemistry left and right between Ji Ahn and Dong Hoon, so to me that’s all that matters.

Hi, I want to let you know my bf thought about My Ajusshi. But I’m sorry that my English it’s difficult to understand and many mistakes in grammar.

My bf firs impression is that he is praise IU, in the beginning, he doubt about IU, cause he know that IU is a singer. He said that this drama brought many issues that happen in society. Especially with millennial generation. This drama speak up about how love, caring, relationship have been build with trust and loyalty.
The big problem in society right now is many people compete each other to show off how their life. Seeking attention, showing how happy and perfect their life in any media. Love and care be manifest into a ‘thing’ and ‘consume’ like a product. Just see how Yoonhee cheat from DH just because she feel that DH only care about his family and friends, DH never love her like how Junyoung show his love to Yoonhee. In the end Yoonhee regretting so much when realize through Jian that how nice DH to her.
DH and Jian was like guardian angel that come to save each other life from feeling desperate. The age gap between them cannot be the main reason to not fell in love. It is their right to fall in love, why you should care about how people thinking. Falling in love can’t be restricted by how old you are.
Be happy and fight for your happiness. We are the main character in our life, don’t be hard for yourself.

That’s it. Sorry I just can explain a few words from our discussion yesterday.

        1
        1

Thank you so much for your reply. I assume your boyfriend enjoyed My Ajusshi and liking it enough.

The message from My Ajusshi is clear that how the people that do not seem to fit or belong in each other’s lives turn out having profound effect on the life of the other person. That is what exactly we see happening between Dong-Hoon and Ji-An and My Ajusshi has successfully created and giving us perhaps one of the most beautiful love story of all – a love that is undefinable yet so powerful.

While many raved over IU’s performances and I agree that she is spectacular here, but I am perhaps one of the few who could not be more in awe of the masterful acting of Lee Seon Kyun. He as Dong Hoon is amazing and beyond. No word can described how impressive he is and I really do hope he will net loads of awards for that outstanding performance of his.
