Languages get people together (even when there are people that use them as means of exclusion). We have a wonderful example in this beanie wall. Many of us are not English native speakers but we manage to communicate and create a beautiful community.
I love English, I’ve always done. But as much as I love it, the foreign language I love the most (even if I’m not as good on it as I’m with English) is Italian. I love Italy and everything Italian. And most of all I love its beautiful, resounding and musical language. Once upon a time I could attend Italian classes but then life and work got in the way and I had to quit. Fortunately my love for reenactment helped me with my love for Italy and I’ve been able to visit at least once a year for the last 12 years, and I have now some great Italian friends I can practice my Italian with.
Also, my favourite singer is Italian (if someone watches my music list they would be a bit shocked: Italian and Korean artists…), and his songs are like poems, so I’m sharing this one: “Tu sei lei” (You are her). It’s a beautiful love song that has this chorus that has always touched my heart. To me it’s not just about a man finding his love, but about the miracle you meet someone meaningful in your life.
Tu sei lei – You are her
Tu sei lei – You are her
Fra così tanta gente – Among so many people
Tu sei lei – You are her
Tu sei lei – You are her
E lo sei stata sempre – And it’s always been you
Se l’universo intero – If the whole Universe
Ci ha fatto rincontrare – has made us find each other
Qualcosa di sicuro vorrà dire – For sure it must mean something
Tu sei lei – You are her
Come sei – Just as you are
Inesorabilmente – Inexorably
Thank you for sharing this. I also love how we all come from different countries and we all find ways to Express our interests and our passions. I’m currently studying Italian because I want to be more fluent.

If you like music and rock, you can start listening to some Italian artists. It really helps keeping my Italian a little more alive.
