Drama withdrawal: What I need right now is a great family drama that’s not too makjang-y. Suggestions, please.

    Have you seen Father is Strange? It’s pretty light, has a delightful cast, and is one of the only weekenders I’ve managed to watch. I’ve only seen a bit of Ojakgyo Brothers, which is pretty old now, but it also seems fairly light and fun for a weekend family drama. And not a family drama per se, but a great lowkey and super underrated drama with some lovely family storylines and relationships is 20th Century Boy and Girl.

      I second Father is Stanger. I’ll also nominate Five Alive and The Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop (I would watch the latter just for Cha In-pyo and Ra Mi-ran, who are hilarious together).

      Other low drama fluff that comes to mind:
      –1% of Something
      –Strong Women Do Bong-soon (okay, there’s technically a serial killer arc, but it’s so boring and un-noteworthy that you could just zoom through those parts without missing much)
      –Touch Your Heart
      –Eulachacha Waikiki (You could watch seasons one or two, but I don’t recommend both; they’re sort of duplicative, so you exhaust most of the fun after one season. The decision might come down to whether you want to watch Kim Seon-ho and Moon Ga-young vs Kim Jung-hyung and Jung In-sun.)

      I watched Father is Strange and Ojakgyo Brothers and loved both of them. I will revisit 20th Century. I remember not finishing it but can’t remember why I didn’t.

    I second Father is Strange. Check out Five Children, Marry Me Now and My Unfamiliar Family if you haven’t already.

    I LOVED Ojakgyo Brothers. It has one of the cutest OTPs IMO.
