Beanie level: Water maid

Also… is it just me but did Dramabeans really only allow 200 characters in the fan wall? How was I able to post lengthy comments before??? >_<

My crack drama update: I’m Not A Robot.

Yoo Seung-Ho is FINALLY in my LIST! Didn’t expect this at all! I marathoned until ep 20 and I can no longer wait for the next episode T_T

So, I ran out of Prison Playbook (Smart Prison Living) episodes and the next ones will be available in Netflix on January 10. I was browsing for other K-Drama titles available and saw Forest of Secrets (Stranger in Netflix) from the list. Decided to binge watch all episodes and guess what – BEST DECISION EVER! How could I miss this during its broadcast? Glad I marathoned the drama now ‘cause I probably can’t handle the agony of live-watching and waiting for the next episode to air.

Finally understood the hype beanies!!! Definitely one of the best dramas of the year – this is Top 1 and Because This Life Is Our First is Top 2. 😆

Fell in love with Jo Seung-Woo all over again! ❤️ First discovered him early 2007 when my older sister’s friend sent us a DVD of the movie “The Classic”.

P.S. Can’t believe the serious prosecutor Yoon is Loony in Prison Playbook 😂

IT’S FINALLY HERE!!!

I guess it’s really too early to declare something huge when a drama series hasn’t ended yet. For example, saying “Because This Is Our Life” definitely belongs in my Top 10 dramas of all time. After today’s ending, I think I need to re-evaluate.

Unlike most of the beanies, I actually like the angst in Episode 15. I felt both needed to be away from each other in order to sort out their feelings. That’s how I am as a person, I usually go away if I felt I am losing myself and would need the energy and proper mind to think things through. I though it’s just like that.

But then, the last episode aired, and I was like whaaaat?! I could not grasp Ji-Ho’s intentions of leaving Se-Hee after all her “philosophical” explanations. She said she’s going on a trip but did not. She is just wandering in Seoul not doing anything – no job, no money. How can she even afford payment for the guesthouses and food? At least she could have sorted herself out and looked for a job? She was just lying to herself.

The scene I hate the most was in the last episode. Se-Hee and Ji-Ho are having spicy crabs for breakfast. Ji-Ho was eating happily while Se-Hee is looking at her, confused and angry. He was like, “unbelievable, what are you doing?” and he was asking her “How can you eat like that?” But in my mind, it seems like this: “you left me and I sold my house but here you are acting like nothing’s happened” Then Ji-Ho just threats him that she’ll leave again if he does not want her. What??? Are you even serious right now?? If I were Se-Hee, I’d be reconsidering this relationship right now.

I remembered on Ep 15, Ji-Ho said she is envious of CEO Ma because Se-Hee is more open to him. He witnessed Se-Hee got mad, lost his cool, and cried wherein she did not get to see any of Se-Hee’s true feelings. I felt like Ji-Ho only left him to see how Se-Hee can become desperate and if he would cry for her. Because when he saw how Se-Hee was crying in the last episode, she’s actually happy to see that. I’m like okay, if that’s what it is, you’re a selfish person and you purposely hurt someone so you could validate your feelings? I don’t know. I could no longer follow her logic.

There was a scene with Ji-Ho and her mom where her mom is telling her the joys and pains of marriage and for scolding her on getting a divorce. Even her mom, could not understand what she was talking about. Hahaha

It seems what the writer is supposed to tell us is that Ji-Ho wanted to end the contract but not really the marriage. If that is the case then both episodes 15 and 16 are not really necessary. Why can’t she face this issue like a normal adult would? Sorry beanies, I need to rant. I have lots to say but maybe for another time? I still have something to say about Se-Hee’s actions in the last two episodes.

Gosh, I’m so affected!!! Writer-nim, why did you do this? 😭

You have said what I wanted to but couldn’t!! My thoughts exactly!! I too felt JiHo selfish in the last episode!! How much SeHee has suffered because of her but she was in a sauna happily spending her time with her friend!! If this not being selfish, then what is…
And also she should be the understanding one if she really loved him and not leave him! She should have stayed with him to experience the same things as him and see him emoting!!!
Girl CEO Ma has spent years with SeHee to have seen his emotions while you have stayed probably free months and you want everything!!!

Se-Hee sold his house while she is having a blast with tourists and her friends. How could she even afford that? Gosh.

      2
      1

Yes!! That’s what I was also thinking!! She couldn’t even afford a room but she was planning a trip!! And the most ridiculous one was SeHee thinking she went to Mongolia!! Even the reasonable SeHee!!! No!!!!

        1
        1

When Se-Hee said Ji-Ho might have gone to Mongolia, I cracked up. I don’t know if they put that in there for comedic purposes. Or maybe, it’s just me. haha

          1
          1

Really at the end, we couldn’t really know if it was a comedy or not!! It was like the joke was played on us!!!

Thanks for sharing. You summed up pretty much everything I felt about this show. But since you mentioned what JiHo’s mom said to her, I guess in the end the writer left us with a pocketful of stars. For now I’ll remember the star moments in this show before considering whether I should watch all 16 episodes in one go and reevaluate.

    9
    1

True, it did give us a pocketful of stars. I was just hoping the characters would still act like real people in the last two episodes.

      1

Yeah. I guess the shock from their first night together made them forgot who they were in the beginning. Or maybe it was SeeHee’s omurice that poisoned JiHo and changed her demeanor. Ah well. After much consideration, I think I’ll just consider this a 13-episode show and move on like how I did with CITT.

Finally! So I am not the only person disappointed on how BTLIOF ended. Maybe my hopes were high for it, but I really am not satisfied with the overly romantic last eps. It doesn’t make any sense to me. They started the drama with an epic “let’s bend the tropes” plot. After episodes 15 and 16 it is just any other rom-com drama. Lets’ not get started on Ji Ho’s intermission plans…

    2

Yes! Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!!!!! I wish I could give you multiple thumbs up! Now I don’t have to come up with my own rant. 😁😘😍

Ji-ho really did not survive her random character assassination these last 2 episodes. I was upset about her sudden change of heart yesterday. Didn’t understand it at all. Felt like manufactured angst to wedge in the mandatory pre-finale separation. If she had said any of the things she said to everyone else to Se-hee before she left . . . If she had told him, “I need some time alone to sort myself out. I want to renegotiate our contract when I get back” . . . I could have gotten on board with her. But as written? No, thanks!

And then today, when she is giddy at seeing how miserable she made him?!?!?! Gah!!!!!!

Also, I really did not want Ho-rang and Won-seok to get back together. Their reasons for breaking up were actually legitimate, and did not go away by deciding to live with his parents. They should have given themselves enough time to heal before trying to rebound, but otherwise, I think they were much better matched with the accountant and Bo-mi respectively. Ugg. I liked what the drama was saying about love not always being enough. But then they reneged.

Of course, they also reneged on the beautiful-guys-can-be-creeps-too message when they whitewashed Bok-nam. I was OK with him not being The Murderous Stalker, but I am still pissed that they waved a magic wand and turned him into a cute puppy. Even if he wasn’t The Stalker, he was still a stalker. He was still pressuring Ji-ho and still not listening to her when she tried to tell him him to back off. But no. Since we misunderstood about one thing, we misunderstood about the rest. Grrrrrrr.

So. I guess I did have a rant in me still after all. 😳

OMG YES to everything. If Ji-Ho was only honest before leaving Se-Hee – not actually honest, more like logical. Good for her, the man wants her back. ‘Cause if I were Se-Hee, it would take me a longer time to grasp what just happened. Most of the things that happened during the last two episodes really made no sense.

Also, Ho-Rang and Won-Seok’s ending! What was that?!?! You solve everything by moving in with Won-Seok’s parents? Whaaaat? How about you evaluate first why the breakup happened in the first place? How about Won-Seok’s dream to start his own company? Is he okay with Ho-Rang not having any income during the marriage? Most of their issues are still unresolved.

      2
      1

On that logical note… I know he didn’t want to hurt her and that’s why he backed away BUT he could’ve been forward and that still could’ve been argued *especially by us but I’m trying to think like him* as LOGICAL. But her leaving made him almost illogical… hmmm
I keep finding things that make me more annoyed hahaha and they’re all to do with the “character assassination” and inconsistencies, as Amilia said, but find myself more annoyed at Se Hee’s than Ji Ho’s which is interesting. Maybe cos I really wanted the writer to do Se Hee’s character justice and she didn’t quite.

I love how TVN is shipping these two as hard as the audience. I found an eng subbed version of this and half of the captions are about how close they look “off-camera.” lol

I listen to this song and could not help but feel emotional. I checked the lyrics translation and the song goes: “Marriage is about meeting a good person, having a good love, and buying a good house. But that’s hard for me so I’m just turning on the TV by myself”
“About love and what’s after that, sometimes, you make bad faces and pointy words, saying hurtful things. Then you become strangers. So this is how I feel. I’m afraid of that. That’s hard for me. So I’m just watching TV”

I could not help but think of Ho Rang and Won-Seok’s broken relationship and how Se-Hee was before Ji-Ho entered his life. The song really captured the emotions and I feel like Se-Hee is the one singing the song while waiting for someone to help him heal and welcome love again.

The soundtrack of Because This Life Is Our First is also amazing. It really captured the story and feelings of the drama. I could not really ask for anything more..

When I listen to the OST throughout the day they just keep blissfully evoking all the feels. The music truly injects an even deeper layer of meaning to the story and elevates the emotions of the characters and hence the viewers. Just ❤️

Can I rant a little about this kiss?
Except form the utter perfection of it all, I loved the sense that Se-hee was really letting himself be kissed. Like Ji-ho kissed Se-hee and not the other way around (although he did reciprocate.)
Am I making sense? I hope I am.
(I also think SH infected me with the “nitpicking kisses” virus)
