Beanie level: Unemployed slacker in a sparkly tracksuit

The precommand of the Blu-Ray for The Matchmakers has started!

You need to be a member on https://cafe.daum.net/thematchmakers and you got a coupon for a discount (kinda ridiculous around 7$)

Of course, it’s super expensive : ~200$. I don’t know the real price for you because it changes with the shipping fees.

There is the text in English https://cafe.daum.net/thematchmakers/bajO/5

For now, it’s not certain that the Blu-ray will be made. It depends if we can get enough money to start the production.

Don’t disappoint O Bong!

22th December Best cameo in 2023

Rowoon in A Time Call You

It was sweet to see these 2 friends in the real life to play this story.

Min Sung-Wook in Castaway Diva as Prosecutor Lee Ji-Gwang from While You Were Sleeping

I really liked the scene of the confrontation between the villain father and the rest of the family. It was nice to see him as prosecutor of the case.

So it’s funny. I was watching Destined with you when A Time called you released. I was this close to dropping DWY because I was finding Rowoon’s lipstick too distracting (the make up was too much). But then I watched this cameo and the way I fell head over heels for Rowoon is funny. I don’t even know what it was about this cameo, but I was completely convinced of his charms after this, finished DWY, now watching MM and love him even more.

Upvote for rowoon (that cameo was good).

21th December The OST you are obsessed with

I will mix with one of the kiss scenes I loved too : Wonder Why by Kyoungseo Lee in The Interest of Love. We can’t speak about kissing scenes without mentionning Yoo Yeon-Seok !

I liked Dice Game by Yaori for the same drama, It’s You by Park Won for Destined with You, Night and Day by Jung Seung-Hwan in Castaway Diva.

20th December Favorite kiss

I need to like the couple to appreciate completely the kiss scenes.

So, without surprise, I choose Destined With You. Not their first (real) one, that was kinda disappointing but all the others!

The imagined one with Rowoon’s fingers

The frog prince one

The Barbapapa one

The Spiderman one

Their cute pecks

The little bump on her head before the kiss

Great great gifs. Thank you for invoking the feelz again. Jang Shin-yu definitely got a grip – on all our hearts. ❤

Rowoon is one of those actors who manages to have great chemistry with all of his co-stars. That said, he did seem to have an extra special connection with Jo Bo-Ah 😍

I have some days to catch up:

13th December Show how you learned from your mistakes: let’s talk about drops for 2023

Dropping is an important skill. But it doesn’t depend only about the quality of the shows, but other elements like their schedule, if there are too many similar dramas, m y mood, etc.

For example, usually, I would have dropped Moon in the Day, I didn’t like the actors and the story was a big mess. But I didn’t, why? Because I had nothing to watch except A Good Day to be A Dog, that isn’t really better and only on the Wednesday…

14th December Best bromance / womance for 2023

I really like the group of friends in Divorce Attorney Shin. They were pretty funny overall always supportive.

15th December Special Kimchi slap edition: worst parent in 2023

So many possibilities! There were very bad parents, toxic ones, serial killer ones, etc.

But I would pick ones they weren’t bad parents but naive ones who put their kids in danger: Moving parents.

They thought they would protect their kids by not telling them the truth. But they always had a step behind the villains. At the end, the result was completely the opposite.

16th December Your guilty pleasure in 2023

Rewatching a certain scene from Destined with You 😇

17th December Oldie (non 2023) you loved the most

I don’t think I watched for the first time an oldie in 2023… I did rewatch some shows, but I don’t remember which ones.

18th December Favorite villain in 2023

Easy one: Lady Park in The Matchmakers

She’s really well written. She’s not crazy, a psychopath, etc. She’s smart and subtile. She uses the best people around her to gain what she wants. But in all her schemes, she really loves her family and kids and it makes her hard to hate her.

19th December Best used trope / Best subverted trope in 2023

Beach scenes they always are so beautifully filmed : I loved the scenes in
– My Destined with You (her father death’s anniversary, the proposal)
– The Interest of Love (the castle)
– Perfect Mariage Revenge (we really could feel the couple as a couple)
– My Dearest (NGM in his first scene!)

Hmmm I wonder which DwY scene your guilty pleasure is?! 🤔 🧐

And beach scenes are a great pick for best trope & great examples too!! The ‘abunim can I take her with me?’ at the beach in DwY holds a special spot in my heart!! And for pure aesthetics, the one in My Demon with all the shades of pink and the massive magical water arch ooft 👌

    3
    1

      It’s a secret 🤫 😂

Oh yeah, the pink wave was beautiful in My Demon!

I liked the ones in DwY. First, the one we finally know what the Shaman said to Hong-Jo : Your destinies cannot be severed. I liked how he learned about Hong-Jo in the car.

They started to date officially on the beach too. He took her there.

The sunset for the first day of the year was beautiful too. I liked this place.

He proposed to her, and it was nice he chose her father resting place to do it. Knowing how important he’s to her.

      2
      1

Oh yes the beautiful voice over bit at the beach when Shin-yu realises what the answer was/Hong-jo goes over it again in her head!!! Momentarily forgot about that one!!

The survey for the production of The Matchmakers Bluray has started!

What it is and how it works ?

The bluray is usually composed of making-of, interviews of the actors, comments by the director and the main actors. It depends on their schedule.

The production team set a total amount to produce the bluray and we need to reach an amount by prepaying before. If we don’t get the amount, there will be no bluray. It’s quite expensive.

To get a bluray, we need a Kakao Talk account.

Then, you go on https://cafe.daum.net/thematchmakers

You need first to rejoin the café for now.

After, there will be other things to do to level up to pay the bluray with a discount.
It’s hard to find these blurays by another way. They don’t produce a lot of them and they’re quickly out of stock.

There are no English subtitles but sometimes fans get organized to find and pay a translator.

There are unsencored script books that can be bought too (in Korean) :
https://www.yes24.com/Product/Goods/124123950

Usually, you can see the difference between the writing and the final product (by you I mean people who reads Korean :p)

For Destined with You, the actors and the PD agreed to comment for the bluray \\o/

10th December : Your 2023 crush for 2023

Nobody will be surprised if I say Jang Shin-Yu, I guess. For this reason, I will add the 12th theme Best suit wearer because they’re very connected.
The issue it’s when the actor is 190cm tall, it makes things harder to get his whole body in the frame, when he has a beautiful face, the director gives up pretty fast :p (the fact his costars are around 160-165cm doesn’t help neither)

Everytime, he wore a suit or casual clothes or a long coat, he looks good. It was too long to share everything.

9th December : Your non k-drama recommendation for 2023

Cdrama : When I Fly Toward You

It was a nice highschool / yound adult drama. The leads were adorable. It was the typical “cold” ML and the bubbly FL, but the actors did really great and at the end, the couple was pretty well balanced.

Jdrama : Silent

It was a drama with a deaf character and I really liked how they addressed the different points of view of the characters.

Western shows :

Lockwood and Co: I didn’t read the books but I think the first season was a good introduction to the story. It sucks they cancelled it.
Dear Edward: It was a show about a plane that crashed, everybody died except a little boy. A support group for family members/friends was formed and we follow their story.
Ted Lasso: It was really nice to see the characters’ evolution during the 3 seasons. I liked the humor!

Ooh, I’m glad to hear about Ted Lasso. I haven’t gotten around to watching the final season yet but I hope to soon.

8th December : <b The character who most screams for mental health care for 2023

Doona in Doona!

I didn’t understand her character because I think her past was not very well developped. But at the end, she became a solo artist without really changing anything in her life that made her unable to sing… She clearly needed professional help and not cigarettes, booze and a boyfriend who had his own problems.

(And a hairdresser would be nice too, I really hated her haircut)

7th December : The drama Beanies convinced you to watch and you can’t be grateful enough for 2023

I’m kinda stubborn, so even if people rave about a drama, if it didn\’t make me want to watch it or if I wasn’t in the mood, I won’t watch it.

9
4

    I’m the same!!

    3
    0

    I know the feeling.
It’s the exact reason why I haven’t watch Crash Landing On You yet. It took me ages to watch It’s Okay To Not Be Okay for the same reason… and many others.

If I accidentally fall on a drama without spotting the many praises and raving comments, I’m fine. Otherwise, I’m a defiant stubborn idiot who will need ages to give it a go.

    2
    0

Same. If there’s too much hype around something, I won’t watch it or listen to it etc. If I’m still interested, I’ll get around to it when people have forgotten it. I was super stoked when I saw *Wednesday* on Netflix bc I LOVE the Addams Family, but all the hype and endless tiktoks of her dance turned me off completely. :/

    3
    1

Ah yes, i forgot that one. Still haven’t watched it for exactly the reasons you mention. If they oversell it to me, I run away rather than get interested!

      1

It might just be a case of the Roswoonies speaking up (like Yumi’s Cells) but I love that uri Rowoon is in this drama. I really think he’s irreplaceable in this. I’ve always liked him in everything so I’m hardly objective but I think this is his breakthrough performance. While Destined With You might have been more popular with international audiences but The Matchmakers is just so beautiful.😍 It is a slow, mellow watch and the way it is shot adds to the atmosphere of the drama.

        9
        1

I had doubts because it was just after Destined With You and I was scared to see his DWY’s character instead of the new one. But I’m really happy that he could completetely separate both characters. They’re really different.

FNC chose a good drama to produce.

          6
          0

Definitely one of the most beautifully shot drama this year.. It is just so poetic, the story, acting and the music, add to it

6th December : The character that deserves a kimchi slap. for 2023

It’s not an easy category. I don’t want to slap a good villain neither a pitiful lead who needs empathy and not a slap.

I choose the Cat in Heartbeat. He always changed the rules and didn’t help at all.

20
3

5th December : OTP you didn’t think you would adore for 2023

Gu Yeon Jun and Tae Ha in A Time Called You:

They had around 8 minutes of story in the whole drama but they were super cute. They looked so happy in their tiny yellow car.

Otherwise, I was more surprised by the ones I thought I would like and I didn’t…

4th December : The drama you loved and Beanies hated / The drama you hated and Beanies loved for 2023

The Interest of Love :

I think there is a little community of people who finished this drama.

I don’t know if I would have loved it the same without Moon Ga-Young and Yoo Yeon-Seok because they really did well with their unperfect characters, I rooted for them.

Moving and Twinkling Watermelon :

I didn’t hate those dramas but I clearly didn’t like as much as Beanies.

For Moving, there were way too many characters with backstories. I didn’t like the rhythm with the cute teenagers story then the parents stories that were very violent. At the end, they were all just puppets…

For TW, it was cute but for me the time travel didn’t make sense. I didn’t like the FL neither.

10
2

There would be no interest in the drama if the leads were not who they were in The Interest of Love. 🤣 The drama needed seasoned actors and they delivered. The drama did not get a lot of love because of its non-rom-com non-K-drama nature but it was satisfying, at least for me.

I had these very two concerns about TW but I loved it anyway. 😀

Oooh, this is a good one! I loved Kang Hoon in this series. So often he plays a bad guy. This was a complex and mysterious character and he nailed it.

He was a bad guy in Rookie Historian too. That and Red Sleeve are the roles I most remember him in prior to Secret Romantic. @isagc I’d forgotten about him in Meow! Loved that cute series!

I know he was in Rookie Historian but I can’t remember his character. It was one of my first dramas 😅

He made a cameo in 25-21 too, but when I really noticed him was in Meow, as the FL’s best friend (a cute character with his own love interest).

With a little delay because I was in Zurich to watch The Lion King musical 😀

2nd December : Male lead you will never forget for 2023

Jang Shin-Yu in Destined with You:
1) His style was perfect. No character wore suits like he did (or casual clothes or coats or Joseon uniform).
2) He was good at his job and not thanks to his family’s wealth.
3) He has an interesting relationship with the Red Hand.
4) Speaking of hands, I really like the focus on his hands during the whole show.
5) He chose great places to date, simple places for a walk (beach, flower field, cherry blossom, etc.) and not in a way to show off.
6) He said the most cringey words in the most serious way, it was hilarious.
7) Let’s get a grip, Jang Shin-Yu!

It’s crazy to think I watched this movie in 1994 at the movie theater and it’s still very famous as a movie but as a musical too. They were so many kids in the theater (who did not necessarily speak English).

The story is beyond words. So glad you were able to attend it. Twice. 👏 So happy for you.

1rst December : Female lead you will never forget for 2023

Ahn Su-Yeong in The Interest of Love:
She was a broken character who tried to be happy. She could have been unsufferable but Moon Ka-Young gave a lot of depth to her character what made me root for her.

Special mention to Bong Ye-Bun in Behind Your Touch, it’s hard to forget a character with such a weird gift.
