I just wasted an hour and forty minutes of my life watching the utter mess that is Sweet and Sour. I absolutely despise cheating in all its forms so maybe, I should’ve have checked it out in the first place, but I love Chae Soo-bin and it’s been a while since I’ve see her onscreen, so I gave it a shot anyway. That was a terrible decision. Cheating in any manner is completely unacceptable, in my opinion. It should not be a premise for a supposed “romcom” in any way. Cheating when men do it is bad, and cheating when women do it is also bad.

That “plot twist” just made the entire experience even more unbearable. I won’t spoil it for anyone who might read this, but trust me, it doesn’t suddenly make the movie better in retrospect. It was a complete waste of my time and Chae Soo-bin’s talent. I was so excited to see her onscreen once again and this is what I get. I’m so disappointed. This truly is not the year for good romcoms.

Same! I almost didn’t pay attention to the cheating part because it makes my blood boil. I watched for Chae Soo Bin only and unlike many others, I kind of got the ending or maybe my interpretation is wrong.

Thanks for the heads up! I was thinking of watching it, but I will now bump up all these other things up the list!

Going into this thinking it’s a rom-com is definitely setting yourself up for failure. It’s about a messy relationship. I actually liked it. I’m probably jaded, but have seen people cheat, or almost cheat, or cheat and come back. It’s hard to blame anyone in this movie—it’s not as black and white as it looks at first. It’s realistic, a train wreck you see coming a mile away, but can’t look away. And honestly, I felt a little defeated when the show pulled the rug out from under me, but after giving us some thought, we do the same in life. We make assumptions about people whether or not we know their back story. Thinking I knew the back story made me more sympathetic, and less so when I saw what actually happened. But what if the guy had a different back story? Would I have felt sympathetic again. This story is about working to the point of relationships suffering, which happens every day. The moral is stop working and spend time and talk to your significant other. It’s a cautionary tale. Hopefully, these two get it right the next time.

I agreed that it’s a cautionary tale. I don’t think we’re supposed to like or support anyone in Sweet and Sour. As much as I hate cheating with passion, I also believe that it happens so often because cheating is easy while maintaining relationship in the modern life requires significant effort and sacrifice. The hardships the main couple go through is very realistic and relatable imo, and both of them have valid reasons for their frustration. The last part where the ML reflected on his past actions really hits me hard. Never let relationship problems, big or small, go unresolved because it’ll eventually cost our relationship something we’re not ready to pay.

i agree with everything that youve said!

this was not a romcom but rather a guide on how not to live your life.

the cheating that happened was as a result of a series of other terrible decisions and wasnt really the main point of the movie.

I have the smae views about watching stuff with infidelity. The only drama which explore it with some nuance was Before We Get Married. I actually appreciated the show in a way.
