I know romance isn’t my favorite genre but few hours ago, i suddenly want to watch something light while having dinner. So i chose to watch A Year End Medley solely for the casts.
I don’t have any expectations.

And yeah i don’t like it😂
It’s more like fantasy rather than romcom.
Kang Haneul did great job and his character’s story is the most (and probably the only one) interesting here.
For people who like warm and lighthearted story, this one might be for you.

I was hoping for a Love Actually kind of Korean version. But it was pretty disapointing. I didn’t feel anything for the characters. I think there were too many of them and we didn’t have the time really care for them.
The stories weren’t very original and we knew how it will end, so more heart could have made it better.

I haven’t watched Love Actually, but yes my reasons for not liking this are same as you.
I somehow knew it was going to be disappointing therefore after watching the first 15 minutes, i decided to watch it at 1,5x speed

I loved Love Actually! It had the famous British touch πŸ™‚

Dear fellow Beanies, i notice Our Beloved Summer is beanies favorite here from what i saw through your comments and fan walls.

Romance isn\’t really my favorite genre, but i want you to convince me why i have to watch Our Beloved Summer. What makes it different.
Cuz i feel i need some urge(?)
There must be reasons why peope like it, right?

I canΒ΄t really tell, I stopped at ep 4. there must be something engaging in it for most beans, but I felt I had to force myself.

Just like many dramas that came before it, there really is nothing new here. We have seen this story before. I feel though, that the execution is different, and hits just the right button for me. It feels good. No, not all episodes are amazing, but they hit the right mark. This series is just right.

Romance is not my favorite genre either. But if you make it slice of life, with a touch of healing. Sold. And this has all three.

The theme per episode. It makes the episode easier to watch. It gives me satisfaction after a long day.

Kim Da-mi and Choi Woo-shik. And even Kim Seong-Cheol. No explanation needed there.

Scenes with limited dialogue. Actors are able to flex their acting chops. The experience of watching their movements onscreen, big or small. Quite lovely. I savor those moments.

Yeon-su’s house gate. Ung’s patio with that door. Those brick walls in their neighborhood. You will feel what it means to be standing there.

      The high school uniform.

The color. The lighting. The framing.

Those are what I’m taking away from this drama.

At current point of existence it can be told that everything was already written, filmed, painted, made, etc. But the beauty is in the eyes of its beholder.

For example take the fairy tales – there are several ways how to tell the same but it depends on the interpretation. Disney versions have the american dream pinky tinted glasses like storytelling likeable by masses for it’s cuteness and simplicity. European versions differ from different countries, because each one has different views on what’s important in the story and the amount of cruelty a child can process. Japanese version will be fluffy but carrying the important existence stuff with grace. Personally I prefer the russian version of snow queen to the american one. But I love Christian Andersen’s one. More you’re going to the North more roughness will be present in the storytelling. It makes sense as the living conditions are different when cold and gloom and not too much sunlight is present.

In OBS this arc of different interpretation of the same subject and almost identical technique is presented like a drawing “battle” between two artists. And like this battle the story of people who try to find ways to each other to become one is full of little nuances served in small doses of grieve, joy, misfortune, happiness, talent, emptiness, love, envy, stubbornness, fun, cuteness… to complete the whole piece. The characters are like onions – to get to see the little sprout you need to remove all those layers to see the little sprout. ( This year was quite humid here so they are beautiful on the outside but start to be rotten inside 😉) It can make you cry but the crunchiness, spiciness, sweetness and healing abilities are worth for me to go with it.

      Very well said @BC!

OBS has no convoluted plots but one convoluted couple. The onion peeling analogy is most apt! This, to me, is the best romance to come out in recent times but the beauty can be found in the beholder’s eyes – just try a couple of hours and decide.

I don’t like the show, tbh. I already invested too much time on it and I like some characters so I’ll watch it till the end, but I wouldn’t recommend it, especially if your not into romance.

Yep, me too. I’m trying to start building my Bean Count early this year 😉

I think the tone and the documentary’s angle are very interesting. The actors are really good. The OST is great.

Now, the fact the story is not told in a chronologic order makes the characters’ actions and motivations a little bit difficult to understand sometimes.

For me, all I can say is: lovely and comfortable. It makes me feel warm and lifts my mood.

I do think that it is one of those dramas that doesn’t get better as it progresses. In other words, if you don’t like the first episode, you don’t have to keep trying!

I want to share my inner fangirling to the person whom i use as profile picture.
Great at acting, talented singer, funny. I think it’s hard to dislike Lee Sangyi

Park Hyungsik looked so manly in Happiness
Meanwhile here in Suits he looked like a big baby
Both are handsome. Park Hyungsik, tell me your secret!

In between he spent two years bulking up on his military duty 😍

That and also probably because he got tanned + changed his eyebrow’s shape.
His appearance in Happiness makes it easier to fall for Yihyun

I also had a huge crush on him in Happiness! He definitely glowed up after 2 years of military duty. I hope that he’ll get more mature and grounded roles in the future.

I find his acting in Happiness much convincing cuz of this glow up.
I’m also excited for his future roles. Hope he’ll pick great projects cuz it’s a hard thing to do

Although he was terrific in HAPPINESS for me the best performance I have seen of his so far is SUITS.

I\’m new here and it seems that you can write more in your post, but why mine is only 200 characters?
That\’s not enough, i want to write more!
How to do it?
Can someone tell me?

1

I\’m re-writing this.
I have 2 bias. One is Lee Jongsuk. I\’ve been his serious(?) fan for 6 years.
Another one is someone i\’ve been a fan for a year. From my last post, you\’ll know who he is.

1

I just heard news about my second bias. He decided to take a break after shooting his movie…
I\’m still cautious to say his name. If he\’s indeed a good person, i can only wish him the best from afar

3

It is ok to say his name. He is not Voldemort.. after all. =)

    2
    1

      He definitely isn’t!😄
I want to be cautious so i can protect my fragile heart(?) that has been wrecked since last october.
And i don’t know people’s opinion of him in here, there might be some people who dislike him, that’s why i rather not say his name now… maybe later!

      1
      1

        Voldemort 🤣
I know who it is now. It’s he who must not be mentioned seonho who? I still think of him when i watch 2D1N now.

        0
        1

          Yes you’re right!
          I can’t no longer watch 2d1n since ep 100. It’s too painful.
But i still follow news about the members and i truly touched when Moon Seyoon mentioned my bias in his Daesang speech.
I hope only good things come to all of them

His fans wanted to make things good for him, but I don’t think he was ready to make a film after his scandal.

I hope he will get some rest and come back stronger πŸ™‚

I actually expect him to film one more movie this year, but i guess things are still too much for him.
At this point, i just hope he won’t stop doing acting. I can accept anything except that

I think theatre play will be a good solution. He really likes acting on stage.

        1

I also wanted him to act in theatre until a month ago. But then, the thought that he has to act in front of lots of people for 3 months or more while he’s not in his best condition mentally terrified me.
I’m sure he’s still nervous as well.
I think he decided to sit back for now and watch how people will respond to his acting in Sad Tropical

…to Park Hyungsik and Lee Sangyi.
And guess what, i’m currently re-watching Suits (cuz i forget the storyline almost entirely, don’t ask me how) then i found out that Lee Sangyi was also in it!!!

Lee Sangyi is amazing! Have you watched him in Hangout With You? He auditioned for a boy group and it is hialriously awesome. The group sounds so good too! I fell in love! Also check out some clips on youtube of him in musicals (In the Heights and A Gentleman’s Guide)

I did recently and that’s why i fall for him even more😍 in fact, my profile picture is his pictorial when promoting as msg wannabe. And i’ve been listening to his unit’s song on repeat. He’s my celebrity crush alongside Park Hyungsik now.
Thank you for your recommendation! I’ll check it out when i have time since i love his voice

        Omg that’s right!!
I got so into msg wannabe as well. It’s crazy. Lol. I ordered their album and the photobook is amazing! And the photocards!!!

        1

Oh God you’re so lucky! Unfortunately i only know them recently. I really want the limited edition album cuz it looks so funny and i feel like it can be my moodbooster everytime i needed it.
But their promotion is over right? Or not? I really want to see more from them

I got it late as well. I think just December last year. I ordered it with other items through a delivery service website in Korea. There should be some of it left!

While waiting for my biases projects, which i don\’t know i\’ll watch them or not (even though they\’re my bias, i can still dislike their projects), i\’m shifting my inner fangirling to someone else
