Beanie level: Rooftop room dweller

Y’all I can’t lol, I’m so smitten my heart is threatening to quit. This one is going on ice till it finishes and I can go through the full spectrum of human emotions in one binge. Didn’t even get to five minutes of ep 5.

Woo- seuk is so lovely. If he doesn’t end up happy, I’ll get so angry.

      1

Also, you look so cute, if I may say so. Some Woo-seuk-ish guy definitely ought to come by and hug you k-dramaly, while pale rose-coloured petals began to fall.

Aww you’re sweet but that’s not me if you’re referring to the photo, though it is what I feel like doing and what I looked like after the end of episode 4 last week! That’s a screenshot from an audition tape that Millie Bobby Brown did for something, it started making the rounds on the internet in the form of the ‘I’m so tired’ memes hahahaha

I’ll take your blessing anyways and hope that some Woo-seok type of guy, or honestly a Sunjae, is just waiting around the corner for me (alongside a friend loyal enough to scatter petals in the air to create the mood).

Ha, typically me, just a world famous young actress and I don’t even recognize her, even if I have at least seen the Enola films.
She looks like a normal, cute young person there, though. But then again, a very young girl dissolved in tears like that would rarely know how cute she looked. It would take an older person to film it who could see the beauty of youth and emotions.

😆 Honestly I’m loving all the Beanie posts on Lovely Runner because they’re making laugh, cry, squee and sometimes all of the above. It’s also good as a temperature check to see how the story is going, I fully want to have the plot spoiled for me before I get down to binge. We have learned lessons from the aftermath of live-watching 25-21 in this household!

*ouch* Yes the 💔 was / IS real! Hmm … can’t say I disagree with your strategy. Better you wait. Also the timelines might be clearer. Not that *logic* ever matters in K-dramas when you have this.

I’m in my C-drama binge era again since the K-drama plate is drying up for me, and saw that a new ZYQ drama just dropped on Viki. He’s in some really good underrated smaller dramas (Butterflied Lovers, Provoke) so was keen to see what people’s impression of this drama was so far! Went to the all knowing land of Reddit, and got a good laugh from few lines in someone’s post about this drama (bless Reddit for being a place that never lacks witty humour ) “ Starring the Jawline of China, Zhao Yi Qin…” 😆 That he probably is honestly, that jawline could cut glass. And then:  it currently seems like every historical mini-drama director is in their Michael Bay era. Ultra dramatic blue and/or orange color grading, ground-level shots, tilted shots, rack focus shots, slow mo, rain, lightning, smoke, silhouettes, the whole plate . Honestly this describes Butterflied Lovers and Provoke to a T (which the Redditor also compares this show to, if that’s a persuasive factor for anyone familiar with Zeng Qing Jie’s short dramas?). Always in awe of the sheer effort that goes into smaller dramas in particular, because you really didn’t have to Director sir/ma’am but you did and I appreciate that a lot.

Everyone’s first impression vibes seem to be good, I shall report back too – wonder if any Beanies are also watching/planning on watching?

    Costume. So pass.
I really haven’t seen him in any recent drama. He was second lead in Accidently in love I think.

I want to see how it ends first, but when I saw that this was from the same production team as Provoke, A Familiar Stranger, etc., and with the same ML, I was super excited! It looks very very Dramatic. I’m looking forward to your report!!

Nah so fair, Butterflied Lover fizzed in the second half so absolutely get wanting to wait. I’m four eps in and it’s quite dark and dramatic but enjoyable!! Will report back proper soon 🫡

I agree with the article— beauty comes in the form of flaws ♥️
His jawline being short a few degrees from “the perfect angle”, all the beauty marks on his face (left side of his nose bridge, bottom left of his bottom lip) that adds interest instead of him having an unmarked face, the constellation of beauty marks on his right ear, his bunny teeth instead of being completely straight (i.e. veneers)…. There’s just so much about him that just 🫠🫠🫠🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 I don’t have the words. But it’s not all just about his looks, it’s his personality and who he is as a person and as a human being and how he treats others as well ♥️♥️♥️ He’s just a genuinely GOOD PERSON, and so many people— costars, staff, directors, passersby, etc.— have attested to that and continue to be willing to vouch for him whenever they are asked. That, to me, speaks volumes about a person

HAHAHA okay no you’re right, defs agree with this scientific piece of evidence (and the many many many pieces of evidence in that article). Also so true about his eyes being one of his (many) charming features! Very versatile to switch from innocent to sharp and suave indeed. Also yes quite literally has ZERO bad angles 😍

Another mini review/set of thoughts because I’m really, really liking the currently on air drama Blossoms in Adversity ! Mild spoilers ahead, I’m trying my best to steer clear of any of the major ones.

Things I love about this drama:

– At its heart, it’s a drama about family and womanhood. The FL is the eldest granddaughter in the very large Hua family who are rocked by circumstances that see the sudden exile of all the men in their family. They’re promptly kicked out of their own home and have to scramble to now survive and adapt. Our FL is an explorer and adventurer by nature and has so far lived to the beat of her own drum, against the constraints of the expected traditional gender norms at the time. Now though, she’s found herself in a situation where she has to convince the other ladies in her family to let her be the head of the unit so that they can not only survive but bring back the men of the household. It’s an uphill battle, especially since most of the women in the family are strongly adamant that they’re doomed without men to guide them, and so it’s very satisfying to watch her grow and take charge. She’s undeniably wise beyond her years but she’s used to operating like a lone wolf, so navigating tensions within the family, facing the judgement of society and those outside the family, and reclaiming their reputation and independence is a whole new challenge. She’s also young, so although she’s smart she’s also still learning and growing and going through girlhood if you will.

– The rest of the women in this family have the most satisfying character arcs too. There’s a lot of them and the sudden shift in circumstances is a shock (understatement) to them, especially because they have very staunch ideas of what women can and can’t do. And it’s not on them of course because they’ve all lived in a patriarchal society where the odds are stacked against them, not to mention they’ve been conditioned since birth believe they can only operate within very narrow parameters as women. Watching them slowly come around to the FL’s outlandish – and very progressive – ideas and ways of doing things, and then slowly regaining their own independence and confidence is so beautiful. They’ve got dimensions to them, and there’s a few scenes that brought tears to my eyes, where you’re reminded that before being mothers and grandmonthers, these women were also young and full of spirit and they’ve got a lot of ‘hidden’ talents of their own that they’ve been suppressing through the years.

– Adjacent to the above theme, the bond that these women create to come together in the face of adversity is 😍 The drama isn’t without a few female antagonists, but the women in the Hua family unit, although they begin the story competition with one another in the name of family hierarchy, really grow and come together as a family through the course of the drama. Another scene that made me cry a little was when the youngest daughter in law finds herself bed ridden and delirious and calls out for her mother (who isn’t there of course). Within seconds, all of the women in the family come to her side and hold her and tell her that they’re there for her, specifically that her mother is here. It’s a really beautiful scene that highlights how these women have surpassed the titles of familial bond that they had before, to now be each others mothers, sisters, aunts and best friends all at once.

– The ML and the FL have a really understated but sweet and solid romance. It’s not fireworks and poetry, and the ML is a man of very few words (and expressions, but it works here). He’s also got his own plotline to do with palace scheming which is equally riveting, but the very solid foundation of the friendship turned relationship between the ML and FL is something. They are each other’s comfort spaces and they find that they both can only really be themselves, vulnerable and honest, with each other. What’s even better is that the ML recognises the strength of the FL and respects that, so they very much work as equals and partners in life.

– Tbh the only flaw, in my eyes, of the drama so far is that the 2ML barely gets a plot line (so far anyways) which is a shame because I actually really like his character! All the other minor supporting characters though have their own mini arcs, even the maids of the Hua family, which works to make the tapestry of this drama even richer.

All in all, this is a really beautiful drama and it continues to be so in the home stretch. I’m glad I’m watching but I’m also sad I can’t start it again now for the very first time. I’m at ep 29 now, so not too many eps left and following this trajectory, it looks like we’ll get a safe landing too?? Not to mention, the intro credits artwork and song are chefs kiss 👌

Couldn’t agree more with everything you’ve written! And thanks for the reassurance up to Ep. 29. I’ve come to love this drama so much that I don’t want to be disappointed by the ending. (Been scouring end credits for clues 😂)

Glad this ramble could be of service and equally glad to hear you’re enjoying the show just as much!! I think ep 25 or 26 ended up being one of my favourites of the entire series so far, so yes defs still going strong imo!

I’m really enjoying it too. For all those reasons. I read some criticism that she solves things too easily but that suits me just fine. Practical and level headed communication. I also think they’re going one way with a character and then they add some depth/growth. Very satisfying.

    2
    1

I’ve read that too and I agree with you – I think it’s absolutely fine narratively, and there’s plenty of situations where she doesn’t necessarily ‘solve’ the issue but realises she’ll have to compromise or take the loss and move on. I think the fact that she’s gracious enough to be the bigger person and also step aside when needed to let others find their voice and take the lead is one of her most charming qualities!! And yes, so many subplots where I assume they’re going a particular way but then they take a surprising turn to add some depth to it – very, very satisfying indeed and I’m super glad you’re also enjoying the drama as a whole too! 😀

They’re becoming self-aware!

The length of Cdramas means that sometimes the lead couple gets together pretty early on, and ironically I’ve found myself in the position before where I’m like ‘things are going a little to well??? throw in a misunderstanding or something to shake things up!’ 😆

12
11

    Meta is too meta! 🤣

    2
    1

Right??? Like something MUST be afoot that’ll make things crash and burn for the OTP to have gotten together so early, and it gives me a sense of unsettled weariness 😔 How is this ☝🏻? I’ve only ever been able to finish 1 Hu Yi Tian drama and have never watched a Zhang Jing Yi drama before—but I like her vibe from variety shows and award shows—so I’m curious as to what her acting is like. She’s currently filming a drama with my C-actor bias (Xiao Zhan) haha

    2
    2

I’d seen her in Lighter and Princess before Blossoms and I’m a fan. She has a calm about her (or at least her characters do). Not cutesy but competent with strong growth arcs. I hope there’s no crash and burn ahead in Blossoms. Or at least that it won’t be caused by silly misunderstandings.

      2
      0

Yes, unsettled weariness is the best way to put it!! And I really love this drama, it was slow to start but then once the plot really started picking up traction (around like ep 4 I’d say) it only gets better and better. HYT is a tiny bit one note here but I’d say that’s just how his character’s personality is written, so it works, and I’d echo what @marysadanaga said before about ZJY too. I’m especially a fan of her character in this drama!

I had no idea she was filming something with Xiao Zhan now and I’m super super pumped now 🤩

      4
      0

You’re watching this! Yay! I just started it yesterday and it’s riveting! But how tall is the FL, because HYT doesn’t look nearly as tall here as he has in previous dramas.

    2
    2

      I read somewhere she’s 5-6.

      2
      0

You’re also watching this! Double YAY! I love that you’re also loving it now, hopefully you continue to enjoy because it only gets better and better in my eyes!!

HYT looks super tall in some scenes though, so I reckon it could be framing and also the sneaky use of like heels and boxes that make him look a little less tall in certain scenes too.

      1
      1

She is taller than an average Chinese women though, and they could easily make her 5 ft 8 or 9in. So, that would make him seem less tall. I think it suits her to be taller, because she looks more substantial and stronger as the female lead, and that suits her character well.

@claire2009 absolutely brilliant, put my name down as an executive producer for this!! 👏 😂 guaranteed to hit 30%+ in ratings, especially if we split it into a two parter- the first is a melodramatic sageuk ‘past life’ backstory and the second part will be a makjang chaebol crime thriller. And to cover all bases, we’ll make sure there’s a supporting character who’s an idol trainee with supernatural powers whose subplot includes taking down unforgivingly cruel high school bullies.

Audiences will never want to watch another drama again after feasting their eyes on this masterpiece! A DB magnum opus if you will 🤩🤩🤩

Okay here’s a mini kind of review, kind of set of random thoughts on Best Choice Ever so far, starting with: I like it a lot! I will try keep this as major spoiler free as possible but forgive me if I have inadvertently included some minor spoilers here and there.

I don’t know what the general vibe has been because I’ve not read commentary or reviews on this (yet) but this is a very cutesy lil contemporary drama. I’m like 10 episodes into the 14 that have been released so far and would definitely recommend- BUT with a few things flagged (we will get to that).

But first, to our leads. FL is of the hardworking Cinderella variety, but wait don’t roll your eyes just yet because she’s not the naive, ‘use me as a doormat’ kind of Cinderella. She’s steadfast to her values and principles, which means she knows how to stand up for herself and can also see through other people’s BS – refreshing!! Yang Zi here reminds me a bit of her character in Oath of Love but minus Zhixiao’s penchant for childishness. I know for some, the fact that our FL is a little too good might be a sticking point but I vibe with her a lot – she’s not without compassion or kindness but she’s also strong, wilful and independant, so it’s a best of both worlds situation. I’d go so far as to say, this is who I wanted Hyo Shim to be in Live Your Own Life (though granted I only watched like a third of that drama so idk what happened to her character arc in the end). She’s also got the cutest affordable chic type outfits here so A+ to the stylist.

Our ML is kind of tsundre adjacent. He’s no nonsense, has trust issues of the born into corporate wealth kind, is somewhat conniving, but not completely devoid of warmth. He’s also kind of like there but not really there for most of the first few episodes (the plot really starts to pick up around the ep 8 point) but I’m not complaining because every time Xu Kai is on screen, he’s serving (see below).

Exhibit A-D:

OKAY so to the bit I want to flag – this is a very family centered drama, and the families are messy. Our FL and her family are in the centre stage of the plot and a lot of the major plot points occur around dynamics within this family, as well as the frictions encountered because of differences in family class/station/societal standing etc between characters. Which leads me to what I think might be the main thing that people will likely find leaving a bitter taste in their mouth – the FL’s mother. She’s not malicious but she’s very ‘I know what’s best for my family’/‘I only want the best for my kids’/‘I’m pinning the entirety of own hopes and failures on the shoulders of my children’/‘what will everyone think about us’ to the extremes kind of ethnic mother, which then spills into a fair few toxic traits and patterns of behaviour. The FL doesn’t exactly bend to all her mothers whims but she is very much caught between a rock and a hard place thanks to the expectations placed on her and her mothers actions. I objectively can see why this mother is very eye twitchingly annoyingly, but unfortunately for better or worse I’ve been surrounded by many reminiscent maternal figures in my own family so at this point I’m kind of desensitised to it. Also, her character is developed in a fairly nuanced way so she’s not the main antagonist – you can see that she genuinely thinks that she’s doing what’s best for her daughter/her family in her own warped way and there’s a fair bit of generational and cultural context that feeds into why she acts the way she does. Which isn’t to say I’m condoning that kind of behaviour or not calling it out for what it is, but I do sympathise with the FL to an extent because I understand her position somewhat. And that projection is what’s stopping me from outright ‘hating’ the mum or find her annoying to the point where I want to stop watching the drama, but I thought I’d flag that in anyways because I can understand that it might be a deal breaker for some.

The FL’s brother also, I have mixed feelings about, because I think he’s written to be someone you pity as the underdog but he kind of comes across a little too pouty/sad sometimes and I think that might be because of the actors execution. Overall though, I vibe with the realistic-ish portrayal of a family who are messy, flawed but genuinely love and have each others backs. It reaffirms my own experiences, as I’m sure is the experience of many, which is that family is complicated and you can’t really always neatly compartmentalise or label just how you feel about each other. Kind of reminds me of that TIkTok meme where it’s like ‘I won’t share a cookie with my sibling but I’d give them my kidney without thinking twice if they needed it’. It be like that sometimes 😆🤷‍♀️

What a lovely write up and awesome exhibits in support. 😊

Thanks for your initial review! Appreciate it.
I have had no luck with Yang Zia’s dramas. I am fine as long as she plays a mature character. But I really want to try this for Xu Kai. Those gifs 🥰
Why did the gifs remind me of King the land 😂
Cdramas trying trauma trope for ML??

    3
    1

YES KTL I also did think that, but the similarities realky start and end at the basic premise imo. Also yeah, I reckon this is Yang Zi’s most mature role yet (that I’ve seen), but she’s like a poster child for filial diligence and upstanding citizen, which I know might have some people’s eyes twitching because the character is so, SO righteous and it’s like how are you not broken by the pressures of late stage capitalism and intense Confucian family ideology 😂 Xu Kai is 👌 tho, he’s sauve and frosty but without stepping into arrogant and mean jerk territory imo, hahahahah honestly a pretry melo rendition of traumatised CEO by Kdrama standards 😂😂😂 So all in all, I’d say give it a shot! Let us know what you think in one of the weekly threads or your wall!

      1

I know exactly this type of character you are talking about. I remember watching ‘The Bond’ and I was getting so frustrated with Bai Yu’s character situation. Like the guy can’t catch a break. His family wasn’t even toxic. Just a lot to handle as a elder son.
Ok. Will give it a try for Xu Kai because he looks good in those shirts. 😂

Thank you for this write up! Now I can be more prepared as I dive into this one. Like you, I’m also desensitized to a lot of stuff that my mum (and only mum, cuz I never grew up with a dad since 8, I’m turning 33) has projected on me and whenever I see it on screen, I’m like, meh, so in this front, I think I’ll be okay. Hopefully.
I’ve been a fan of Yang Zi for a while now—from her idol drama days to her bouts of random serious dramas, to her moments of idol but poignant dramas— to now, wherein there’s definitely been a shift in her career to choose dramas which I think are more fitting for her, and fitting for her career trajectory (if she’s going to stay long term, and I think she will, since she’s done this since she was 10, and both her parents are also in the biz). It’s roles like these from Yang Zinthat make me excited to see what else will come of her career as it matures and as SHE also matures as she grows and comfortably sinks her teeth into her 30s, a period and time in life many women in East Asian culture— especially in China, where it’s so fast paced— think that it’s the start of a decline in a woman’s life and career, but I think otherwise ♥️

    1
    1

Oh yeah absolutely – I’m nearing 30 now and the doomsday conversations around me have started to pick up traction, so it was oddly comforting somehow to see the FL here go through the same thing where her mum is like you need to settle down and have a kid nOW. I think what I appreciate the most here though is that they make a point to not demonize the mum too much for her projection and antics, and the FL makes the point on several occasions that she knows her mum is crossing lines oftentimes but she also recognises – and struggles with the knowledge that – her mum loves her dearly and sacrificed a lot to bring her up. I feel that with my own mother, where on a surface level I’m like uRGH but deep down I’m like her approach might be wrong but for better or worse, I understand why she’s acting the way she is and there is a lot of love there. I guess it’s a mixed bag of recognising generational trauma cycles and trying my best to side step those whilst also accepting that my parents are a product of their time and there’s some things that won’t change, so it’s just compromising where I can to forge my own path and placating my mother’s frantic worrying on the side hahaha

On Yang Zi – I need to check out some of her earlier stuff still but like you I’m also excited to see what kind of roles she takes on as she matures along with her longstanding career as you pointed out and I’m grateful she has picked quite a level headed and mature character to play here because it’s a fitting next step!

    Hi
I just chose a random post to check in with you to see whether you still want to host the DB book club book three: The sense of wonder, which will take place on Sunday July 14th. If you are no longer able to host on your fan wall please can you let me know by the end of April, so we can recruit a host as soon as possible. Thank you.

So what do we think are the chances this has a happy ending? 😭 I’m going to hope really hard and watch anyway (but DON’T BREAK MY HEART, SHOW) I loved episode 1 though! Looking forward to episode 2!

    3
    1

honestly I have hope it will be a happy ending, or like a bittersweet open ending or something at least BUT I’m trying really hard to get ready for a not happy ending, because the amount of times I’ve been so SURE of a happy ending, only to get the rug pulled out from under me is insane 😭

Me at the end of Lovely Runner episode 2:

Also, weird point maybe, but I like how much rain there’s been in these two episodes so far?? Idk I’m a big rain fan (this felt weird to say but you catch my drift, idk rain > sun), and so it heightens the emotions being played out in the scenes for me 🤷‍♀️

14
13

If I remember right, it was raining when the sun was shining bright. So you got both 😅

    4
    1

It did! It was giving that Extrordinary You Rowoon reveal with the umbrella there too. This writer must love the tall boy + umbrella + rain combination hahahaha

      1

I’M A BIG RAIN FAN TOO! 🙋‍♀️ I totally get what you mean. It often feels magical in dramas when it’s incorporated. Now I’m thinking about it and a lot of favorite/memorable scenes for me take place in rain! I’m just about to press play on episode 1!!!

Lapis and Zindigo – it was sad, and sweet, and funny, and cute, and their interactions just SPARK! I laughed and I cried, and I appreciate how this one already has all the feels. I’m excited to watch episode 2 tonight!

          2

YAYAY I’m so glad you enjoyed ep 1!!! I appreciated the feels too, good doses of different emotions I thought. Let us know how you go with episode two later!! Excited for you to watch it 😀

You guys should give Shogun a try, I swear it’s raining 90% of the time. I think about the actors in those heavy costumes that are probably saturated. When it’s not pouring, it’s heavily misting or foggy.

Me accidentally letting slip to mum just how much I paid for K-pop albums (and then the automatic revision of said price at 50% less than what I actually got it for). Also heard around the house:

“Why do you keep buying these, you don’t even play the CDs”
“This is literally just a torch with shapes in it, you paid how much for it????”
“Isn’t ONE group poster enough??”

Also I’m BACK! Or trying to be again – I got moved to a slightly bigger and different department at work, so whilst I was keeping up with live watches, I was a bit too frazzled post-work to post anything on DB. I’m still here though!! And very much enjoying ep.1 of my Lovely Runner.

21
20

Yayyy you’re back!!🥰 I was wondering how you were doing and hoping that everything was good. Good luck with your move at work – transitions like that definitely take time to get used to. I hope it will end up being an even better situation for you than what you had before. I definitely understand what you mean about being too frazzled after work for more “participation”!! I will get to episode 1 of Lovely Runner tomorrow, but I’m excited to hear you liked it! Re: K-pop albums – I recently bought my first albums, and while I did show them to my mom, I did not tell her what they cost 😂

    4
    1

Hi Hopeful!! 💕 Thank you for the kind words – it’s been a learning curve for sure but I’m enjoying expanding my portfolio in the new role, plus bigger team hopefully means less stress too because there’s more people to work with! Hope you’re doing well also and life is flowing on fantastically for you ☀️

Very smart move to not let her know the price, especially because international markups can be crazy sometimes hahahaha which albums did you buy? Was the opening process exciting!? Lowkey the PC pull is the highlight of any album for me, and then I spend a good few hours being delusionally dreamy over whoever’s selfie I’ve now got 😆

      4
      1

That sounds exciting, Lapis – I hope your new team is helpful and supportive!! Thank you for your kind words, too! ❤️I’m feeling more settled in my job and really enjoying some of my responsibilities. It’s definitely still a learning curve for me, too, though!!

Lol they were both ATEEZ albums (their two latest), and I embarrassed myself by how excited I was about the photos that came with them! 😅😆🫠😂 It was kind of exciting to open it and see what was included!! I haven’t bought a light stick or posters, yet, though. What albums did you get most recently? (Haha I’ll need to reply again in the morning, it’s getting a bit late for me – I hope you have an awesome day!)

        3
        2

Wishing a fruitful and fulfilling professional live for both of you. Also may you both have time for dramas, fangirling and dramabeaning!! ♥️😂

          3

Thank youuu! I’m glad to hear you’re feeling more settled & are enjoying your job!! Here’s to fun and engaging learning curves at work for both of us 🥂

And omg nice, the last two ATEEZ albums were chefs kiss! And NO don’t be embarrassed!! I get really squeal-y over them too, and it’s kind of nice to know there’s things in life that’ll still make me feel like a kid at Christmas! The most recent albums I bought were TXT most recent one (Deja Vu is such an A+ title track 🤩) and NCT Dream’s Dreamscape but I haven’t received either yet so I keep excitedly checking the mailbox every day 😆

          3
          1

Yes – here’s to continuing to grow and to being strong and successful professionals!!!😄🤗🥂

Oh man ATEEZ’s latest are so good!!! I’m really glad I decided to get them 😂 And yes TXT is awesome, and I listened to Dreamscape, too. Oooh I’m excited for you to have those to look forward to receiving!!! You’re right, it does feel like Christmas and it is really fun to have something to squee and fangirl over!!!

I thought so too! Fingers crossed for the rest – I know we’ve had a few dramas with strong starts that then fizzled out in the end but hope springs eternal I suppose?? 😆 🤞

      1

Most definitely. We start all dramas happily. It’s rare to press play on something that doesn’t vibe at that moment.

Thank you for your good wishes. I’m rather happy with Queen of Tears and The Midnight Studio now I have high hopes for Lovely Runner.

I think you would enjoy The Midnight Studio. Drop by my fanwall if / when you choose to watch. I’ll be happy to share some links to my posts if you can’t find them. 😅😂

Genuinely, every time I think I’m over this guy, a new drama comes along to say ‘lol you thought??’. I just started watching Wonderful World and 👏 to Cha Eunwoo’s styling team because uh, yeah it’s a vibe. Also adding to the fact, he’s playing a character with some nuance this time??? Thank god for the directing team that decided to give him a chance to step out of the one note reserved ice prince roles or sweet golden retriever roles he was in before (granted: I haven’t seen Island yet)

8
25

So, he was strong in Island too. (Island the K-drama was pretty weak, but Eunwoo’s character wasn’t – Island the manhwa, by comparison, had a stronger plot line… and many many MANY more boobs. Seriously. 90s Lara Croft-like, gravity-defying boobs on every page…)

I haven’t watched Wonderful World yet, but my social media feed is packed with scenes from it.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Cha Eunwoo is a very decent actor as long as nobody is casting him to be the eye candy in a rom com.

Not that he’s not pleasant to look at. (I’m ready to exchange my looks with him whenever he wants. I too want to be tall with perfect skin and hair and become an ambassador for ice creams) But it seems many K-drama writers and directors want me to believe that the Pretty is the plot. (and no, it isn’t. He’s cute, but please, give him something to else do on camera)

    9
    4

      So well expressed Cecee. 🫰

      4
      0

My issue with Island was that I was liking Cha Eun-woo better than Kim Nam-gil.😅

      6
      2

I agree with you on that! But I loved scenes with both of them together. They had a real funky energy on screen. It was obvious how much fun Eunwoo sshi was having fighting around (especially when I compare to his roles in rom-coms)

There was so much more energy in the way Cha Eunwoo’s character was written for Island.

        6
        2

💯 I agree with you on their scenes together. It’s difficult for just anybody to match KNG that is why it was such a shocker to have CEW of all people come up smelling roses. The only past role where he showed such pizzazz was The Big Hit.

          5
          3

So, it’s lunch time here and my breakfast is still in the fridge (because I have a goldfish memory)… But anyway, I read that CEW showed pizza and I got super excited.

If you need me, I’ll be facepalming in a corner

            4
            0

YES THE BIG HIT, I vibed the narcissistic idol role so much even if he was just a minor character!

            2

MJ … psyching out on being dismissed as a wanna-be was my favourite thing ever.

            0

Omo … that reminds me of Song Kang’s pizza advertisement which is a personal favourite of both @attiton and @Elinor.

          5
          5

Sorry, CEW. Nothing will top the pretty/bizarre combo that is the Alvolo ad – although putting broccoli on pizza is a crime.

            4
            0

@lapislazulii @DarkCC PS Thanks for the reminder about Wonderful World – I’ve been wavering on starting it, plus I have a completely unmanageable combination of real life intensity and too many live-watches already, but maybe I’ll wedge it in. Or maybe just find some clips and look at CEW. I hear it’s pretty dark.

            5
            0

@elinor – I hear Wonderful World is anything but jolly. The theme and few clips I’ve spotted are indeed dark.
So I’m waiting a few more weeks to binge watch a few episodes. I want to follow the plot rather than be caught in the darkness (by which I mean in CEW’s long hair & Kim Nam-joo’s murderous grief)

            3
            0

this is one for the ages… it needs to be preserved somewhere to confuse the heck out of people way, way, way into the future or like aliens hahahah

            2
            0

and @elinor yeah I started it with one hand ready to press exit just incase but found it compelling enough to deal with the darker vibe – YT clips and edits might be a better way to enjoy till/if you find yourself in a space where you’d be able to watch without feeling overwhelmed!!

            2

“but it seems many K-drama writers and directors want me to believe that the Pretty is the plot”.

Boy, that’s a comment for the ages 👍🏽 Amen to that. I wish they’d quit that.

      5
      1

I’ll have to check out Island, even if the plot is eh, for CEW! And maybe read the manhwa for the plot instead….

And yes absolutely with you there, he’s actually decent when his role isn’t ‘Look Pretty and Smoulder’ in a drama that’s basically just Pretty!!

      1
      1

ok but no joke i’ve gone to work, gym and dinner but this has been running a loop in my head and i don’t know why, i’ve seen more 🔥 kisses but this one’s giving me all the butterflies #WI

11
8

We have seen better kisses, but I guess we were looking forward to this one. Episodes 7 and 8 successfully made us know and understand exactly what they were feeling all the time… and it was quite painful. So the kiss was cathartic.

    5
    2

excellently said – I genuinely felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders when she started cry-yelling at him!

      6
      1

The cry-yelling really is what did it for me. That and the fact that it was a very natural kiss sequence. Are directors finally turning away from frozen fish eye kisses? (please oh please)

        3
        1

It wasn’t the greatest drama kiss but it had the benefit of looking very real. No wide-eyed stare followed by eyelids falling shut like trapdoors. I appreciated that instead of AJ looking woebegone-yet-perfect with a single glycerin tear, her face and eyes were red as they should be from cry-yelling.

          4
          1

the trapdoor metaphor had me barking out a laugh..in a very quiet office 😆 but yes thank you for putting into words as to what helped make that scene memorable!!

            3

They cut the scene pretty fast. I hope episode 9 will continue it.

also omg just noticed I moved up a DB level YAY (FINALLY)

16

Oh and one more for #WeddingImpossible this week – my guy Ji-han has been basically living out this whole Taeyang MV these past few episodes (also any excuse to bring back one of my all time favourite K-pop songs):

View post on imgur.com

10
4

Can you please show me how to embed a video with sound on DB? Thanks a lot in advance. I’ve been trying it but haven’t worked it out.

    3
    1

Of course – I followed in @attiton‘s footsteps to use imgur for uploading video snippets/gifs with sound. You don’t need to sign in or make an account to post a video there! Just make sure you tick the ‘keep audio’ button when it pops up after you upload the video. Once you’ve done that, you can grab a link to the video (there should be a button on the right hand side that says ‘grab link’ once your video has been uploaded to imgur) and paste it to your wall on DB as you would when you’re sharing a YT video (i.e. clicking the video sharing icon thing that’s underneath the textbox, and putting in the imgur url in lieu of a YT link or whatever as you usually would). Hopefully that makes sense, please let me know if it doesn’t!

      3
      2

Thanks a lot, I got it. So I understand that we’ll need to use the share link function on DB fanwall’s composing window, which means we can’t do it in a comment.
        Thank you 🫶

The pathway to insider training starts young:

The drama is buildinggg and I can’t wait till it all boils over the edge (so glad this is 12 episodes!!). Some more thoughts turned into memes for ep 6 of Wedding Impossible

Is it just me who gets Team Rocket vibes from Choi Min-woong and Ahn Se-jin?! 😆

Another lovely episode of Wedding Impossible!

I still remember being like oh awww when I watched 10 Things I Hate About You for the first time and she hit us with that deeply vulnerable last line of the poem!! I fully expect a blubbering shout-y confession sometime soon for our WI couple!

And hahahah yes look same here, my family also likes to go down the route of ‘we don’t talk about it’ but then it blows up at some point down the line in an argument 😆

HAHHAH I just finished the most recent ep – why do I feel like a confession will come at the altar or when things have really escalated and they’re both about to walk down the aisle towards the wrong people. I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE DRAMA!!
