Found this behind the scenes of our OTP shooting by Deoksugung Palace again. They seem a little distant and aren’t even holding hands. I hope the break-up rumours from walking around the wall isn’t coming true. Thoughts, Brahmsies?

    No kidding!!! I don’t even know why kdramas even bother with the angst at this point. We know they will be together—we hate every other character—it’s a no brainer!

      i agree with this (even though i’m in show defense mode haha). who says a story has to have conflict and antagonists? screw hundreds of years of writing conventions!

      i’m actually NOT being sarcastic haha. if they got rid of all the bad guys and problems after the “steinway kiss” and gave us EIGHT EPISODES of ice cream dates. i think i would’ve watched every second, and so would everyone else here! the awesome BTS PROVES this. i wish just one show had the cajones to try this hahaha.

        There’s been a few dramas like A Piece of Your Mind, where I thought it did well at trying something new and steering away from that kind of formula, but Korean viewers just didn’t like it. So I can see why writers don’t want to risk it but also…yeah

          i think breaking formula for murakami emo-ness is one thing, but this is breaking formula for mr. canyon-like dimples and ms. peach cheeks! if i was the director and saw the bts and figured out the magic i was happening here, i would’ve immediately called sbs, “uhhh, we have a situation here. think we should cancel that time skip and order some additional ice cream.” 😆

      This is when I always kick myself for live watching. When you’re watching a finished drama, you can just move right on through and get on with the love story. Now, we have to sit here in angst land for a week or two even though we know that it’s all going to work out in the end. Really, these two are made for each other so just let them love!!

        I know. Same. The reason why I stopped watching things whilst it airs was because I wanted to avoid these emotional rollercoasters. But here I am…sucked into another show.

        i actually feel the opposite hahaha. i’ve learned to like live watching recently cause 1) the angst-filled hype is exciting, has the feel of a sports match or something communal when we were growing up and 2) dramabeans! watched shows late and read recaps and comments only for years. but participating and losing your mind is much more fun. 🤭

    Having watched this week’s episodes, I have our wine pairings ready:
    Episode 11: Fermata: Although the theme of this episode is “Hold”, I could not help of thinking of something like a wine grape, that struggles in a hostile environment of poor soil and little nourishment yet still flowers, bears fruit, and becomes something long-lasting and beautiful. For an episode about love growing stronger and richer through adversity, the selection is Napa Valley’s Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Cask 23 Cabernet Sauvignon 2016: rich, and opulent on the palate with crushed mixed berry and spice flavors that are supported by ample, yet plush, tannins. Flavors of black currants and pepper, a wine that is rich and complex and could last for decades.

    Episode 12: Da capo, Back to the Beginning: It’s an episode filled with bitterness, rain, and the stony hearts of villains large and small. So for this reason I chose a Domaine François Raveneau Chablis 2018 as the wine, a wine with sharp acidity, the smell of wet stones, and a dry, metallic tang to echo all those verbal knives slung at our OTP. It’s a fabulous wine but ouch, the feels.

    Yes, episode 13 and 14 usually are the hardest to go through for a melo and a sageuk. I see a pattern for writer-nim though; she brings on the sweet then lays on the bitter. I haven’t seen any sweet scenes for next, so hopefully there’s not so much angst? I foresee the dreaded time jump, too. But realistically speaking, some of the issues here can only be solved through time.

        if this were a movie, Song Ah, after being brought to her lowest point, disappears to find herself deep in the mountains where she finds the mystical place where all musical notes are being born. There she finds the reincarnation of all classical composers throughout time and she begins her rigorous training…starting with bursting bubble wrap to gain finger strength, and flicking bugs off plants. Years later, she embarks on her journey of revenge on the people who have tormented her in the past, starting with the conductor in episode 1. Hahahaha! I would totally watch this LOL

    1) they’re whipped for each other. when they see each other = dimples, giggles and like 10-20 waves (i.e., way too many waves).
    2) have they had one really bad encouter? argument? convo? missing apology? nope, nadda, zilch.
    3) mommy approves, noona approves, HH approves deep down.
    4) NEVER FORGET DAEJEON.

    my prediction? JY has to go on worldwide tour to make money (’cause asian americans always pony up for their nation’s classical artists haha sidenote). and even SA may have to go somewhere for a career change.

    c’mon, beanies, the love is not melo! the angst has been all career-based and “JK is really good at the franck sonata.”

    I can’t stop thinking about what the writer says about SA:
    “SA is a character who reacts, not takes action. So you might feel that her capacity to lead the play seems weak. But that’s the character that the director and I wanted to draw. And if you watch until the last episode, you’ll know why SA had to be the main character of this drama. There was a last part that wasn’t revealed in SA’s character introduction, which is why SA has to be the main character, because it could be a spoiler.”

      Oh, man. You know how sometimes SA has a voice over during certain scenes? I remember the one in particular after JY played ‘Happy Birthday’ and hugged her – it sounded like she was speaking from the future, like DYLB is a story about something that happened to her and she is narrating. At the time it sounded a bit discordant to me, but I figured it was maybe a translation thing. But now I’m wondering again, and it’s not making me feel good….

      so i’m ok with the “future narration” now cause it could simply be narration until ep16 like many shows, not necessarily a time skip! (wow, the denial oozes from my every pore …)

      and i’m even ok with a time skip now! to solve their problems, change careers, go on tour, go to the tsiachovsky competitiom. a brief “intermission” (crap that’s the name of the hangout restaurant below DH’s workshop) from everyday school ice cream dates and lunches. who says time skips are all bad? plenty of our faves (reply 97) have time skips! (wow call the doctor cause i need some crazy anti-denial pills!)

      but i’m NOT ok with a breakup. esp a noble idiocy one. at worst, they have to try long distance and giggle on the phone everyday and share spotify playlists and squeel and kick blankets after they hang up. i will not accept a break up or long, permanent intermission. it just wouldn’t make sense given our love context so far!

      perhaps SA is the main character cause she is the one that surprisingly saves JY from his darkness? sorta smell some PBIO role reversal here.

        If we have a time skip, I’d appreciate more than half an episode (even a whole hour would be fine) showing us how their lives have changed. What I don’t want is that we get a time skip happening in the last 5-10ish minutes of the last ep, when ohh hooray they are all happy now 3 or so years after -_-

        I agree with what you said about breaking up though ;-; it’ll only shatter me into broken pieces even more if that happened (IN DENIAL WITH YOU >_<)

          hahaha yes those time skips are brutal. i will take anything less than 1.5 years (possible length of JY’s international tour). anything beyond that??? ugh ….. 5 years later?? i will have to buy a new tv without an object in it ……

          a long, cold breakup would simple deprive the world of giggles and canyon-like dimples!! #SAD

    Do not want to over analyze this clip. But looks like a catching up scene or something. Also saw that they filmed night scene at the wall. So looks like the stonewall gonna play important part in the later episodes. 🙂

      It better be a “prove that stupid break up rumour wrong” kind of part, otherwise I will go knock that wall down even if it means I get deported.

      Perhaps grasping at straws, but if I’m not mistaken, that stone wall was also a feature of many a walk of two people in My Unfamiliar Family. And that wall represented something good and enduring to them. So…at least for the moment, I’m going to borrow from MUF (which I loved so much) and borrow some of their magic for DYLB.

        I like to think so too. In the early episodes progress in their relationship did take place there. Last walk there was that time SA was putting in place what type of friendship she wanted. I guess we gonna see more progress in their relationship in later episode to mirror in early episodes. I have fait they gonna come out stronger after all the stuff they enduring. 🙂

          Yes I believe so too. Also isn’t the rumour only true if they walk around the whole thing? I feel like our OTP has only walked parts of it and not the whole thing in one go.
