CustardHopia’s take on the male leads of Was It Love (Episodes 1-2):

Oh Yeon-woo:
Occupation: Teacher
Comments:
– Fluffy ball of sunshine
– Always smiling
– The way he calls Ae-jeong “noona” is so freaking sweet

Ko Pa-do: 🔺
Occupation: Loan shark (moneylender, if you will)
Comments:
– Keen business man
– Tortures people in the basement and has dogs (probably also used for torture, ala The King)
– Is a single dad but has relationship issues with his son

Oh Dae-oh:
Occupation: Writer
Comments:
– Mean and petty jerk
– Still hurting after 14 years
– Present-day redeeming qualities not shown yet

Ryu Jin: unrated (not enough info yet)
Occupation: Actor
Comments:
– A good friend
– Treats manager well

Note: Symbols inspired by Jang Ha-ri’s sperm donor diary lol

This looks so badass already. Am I ready for this? Are you ready for this?

Good Lord—my eyes automagically started tearing up when I saw this poster. I might need to take a vacation week so that I can go deep when it premieres.

Biggest mystery of this season for me will be whether or not the ship will sail (or at least if they will allude to it sailing).

Was It Love?

Yeon-woo: I LOVE YOU, YOU LITTLE BALL OF SUNSHINE.
Pa-do: Tsundere gangster/loan shark but probably a softie deep down and has trouble connecting with his son.
Jin: Probably secretly liked Ae-jung but never got the courage to admit it, or was he friendzoned?
Dae-o: Gosh he\’s a jerk at present, but I\’m gonna give him a pass knowing that he\’s still hurting even after 14 years. But he\’s still a jerk. And that \”revenge plan\” is shit. Please switch strategies while you still have the chance.

That writer! Booo I tell you what. i want to kick him right in the shin. Stop being a jerk, punk!

    2
    1

Haha same here! I especially hate that haughty tone he uses when he talks down to Ae-jung. Like we get it man, being successful is the best kind of revenge and you want to rub it in her face, but it’s obvious that you never got over her. So maybe stop being so childish and mean?

Though given that this is Son Ho-jun, I think I will grow to love his character as the show progresses, especially when he gets jealous of the other men surrounding Ae-jung. Heeeeee. Don’t disappoint me, show!!!

Seung-jae is totally me in this scene!!!
Sang-in: “… I’m her man”
Seung-jae/Me: cracks up
Kang-tae shifts his head and stares menacingly
Sang-in: Anyway, you’re stealing my spot, so move aside at once.
Kang-tae: I don’t want to.
Seung-jae/Me: Ooooooohhhhhh.
Sang-in: What?
Kang-tae: I won’t move aside.

That “I won’t move aside” is probably my favorite line this episode and reminds of Hwi-young letting go of his glasses before kissing Soo-hyun back in episode 9 of Chicago Typewriter. It signifies intent, and I find that reaaaaally sexy. xD

I remember reading this A:TLA explanation before that shrouding Firelord Ozai’s face until Season 3 was a storytelling tool which gives him power and mystery. He’s not a person but something that invokes fear. It reminded me of how they’re only showing us parts and flashes of the face of Moon-young’s mom, so that she’s this malevolent being that haunts MY and her father. Eventually showing her face would remove that mystery and humanize her.

Also, damn the show for the fakeout on episode 6. I almost had a heart attack.

P.S. I was today years old when I realized that I can bypass the 200 character limit by right-click + paste 😅

Gosh, first Mystic Pop Up Bar, and now Oh My Baby. I feel like I’ve said goodbye to some good friends last week and then to some more today.

Episode 16: Questions About Things That Disappear
    1. Yi-sang sobbing while hugging his phone when he looked at Ha-ri’s Instagram hit me hard. I just want to tell him to call her because she is waiting for him.
    2. I love Soo-chul more for dissing the noble idiocy trope and talking some sense into Yi-sang. It was important that those words came from him because he is Yi-sang’s closest friend and confidante, so one can understand the gravity of him saying that he was disappointed in Yi-sang’s actions.
    3. So relieved that the subfertile couple and their baby were okay. That suspense though!
    4. Props to Yi-sang for keeping a respectful distance from Ha-ri, acknowledging that he doesn’t get to leave for 3 months and then barge in like nothing happened. Also, it’s been happening all throughout the show but can we talk about the subtle focusing on his hands like in the scene outside the nursery where he’s hesitating to reach out and comfort her. THEY ARE SO PRETTY!
    5. Ha-ri is constant with her feelings for Yi-sang all throughout. She decided to be with him. She stayed with him after knowing his condition. She waited for him when he needed space. She confronted him for his hesitations and doubts. Heck, she even went to him when he just gave up on their relationship again.
    6. The parallel between Yi-sang the morning after they made up and Ha-ri the morning after their first kiss was too cute! Ah, the world must be so beautiful when you’re in love. Also Ha-ri wearing his white shirt LOL.
    7. Jae-young and Yi-sang! Man we should’ve had more bromance between these two. Yi-sang trying to persuade Jae-young to return to Ha-ri’s life is another star in his name. Like seriously, are we still counting now?
    8. The scene where both defended Mom with JY saying “I’m her son” and YS claiming “I’m her son-in-law” was absolutely heartwarming, only to turn hilarious when Mom was actually playing hard-to-get.
    9. I CRIED SO HARD DURING THEIR PRESENTATION. Of all the scenes this was where tears were streaming down my cheeks. Lol. I loved that the outcome was realistic though. Despite all their efforts, the show showed us that business is business, and compromises can only go so far. AND ALSO YAY EDITOR SHIM!!!
    10. THE PRE-SCHOOL TEACHER HAS A CRUSH ON OUR JAE-YOUNG BUT HE’S TOO OBLIVIOUS AAAAHHHH!
    11. OMG Manager Kim’s conception dream was a Moai statue!!! I dreamt of a hareubang. It must have been from abroad because it had the nose of a foreigner.
    12. That epilogue is whack, I love it!

Overall, I’m glad that everything was wrapped up nicely. Ha-ri and Yi-sang were happy just being together even before they got pregnant. Jae-young and Do-ah are thriving. Eu-ddeum is no longer as clueless as he was before. Mom now has buddies to hang out with. The coworkers at Dachae Media are doing fine. Ha-ri and Eun-young have their start up.

It’s a heartwarming show and I can say goodbye to these dear friends without any regrets.

Soo-chul hitting the final nail on the coffin of the Noble Idiocy trope, everyone!!!

I know this was a serious scene, but the could’ve had him drop a mic and I would’ve still cheered.

AS MUCH AS I LOVE GO JOON IN ANGSTY/BADASS/GANGSTER ROLES, I NEED HIM IN MORE FLUFFY HAN YI-SANG ROLES WHERE HE LAUGHS A LOT, LOVES SINCERELY, AND WEARS OVERSIZED WHITE SHIRTS.

Drama gods please.

    1. All I’ve been hearing were Do-ah’s cries, but other sounds came to me at that moment. The warm breeze and sun, I could also feel those too. That’s when I was finally able to breathe.

    2. That little twinge when Hyo-joo asked Eu-ddeum to let her move on. Ouch. These two are growing on me. I think they’re more relatable after episode 14 because HJ is no longer just a loud character and ED is no longer just a clueless character.

    3. The tension was palpable through the screen when Yi-sang realized that it was In-ah. While I liked that they were able to sit down and have closure, I hated that it set up the noble idiocy trope.

YS: I knew it was over, but I tried to hold on. That’s why you had no choice but to leave. Yep here it goes… He’s thinking about it.
IA: I was the one who couldn’t handle it. Yes, it was partly because of the baby issue, but it’s also because we weren’t strong enough to endure it. If we had stayed together we both would’ve become miserable. While completely missing this!
YS: I thought holding on was how you protect your love And yep, this line confirmed that he’s gonna do it.

    4. Soo-chul discouraging Manager Kim from fanboying over Precious sucked. I just like seeing young people passionately pursue their dreams. Since I can’t do that anymore, it’s comforting.. It hurt to see him pause the video then put the phone down, but then hearing the backstory from Eu-ddeum just my me cry.

Good thing Soo-chul made up for it and props to Eu-ddeum for standing up to their scum of a client.

    5. When the story went back to the subfertile couple, I had an inkling that Yi-sang would be the one to photograph that because it was his project to begin with. WHAT A RELIEF TO KNOW I WAS RIGHT.

    6. Ha-ri and Eun-young crying at the park made me cry again. I love their friendship.

    7. MY BOY JAE-YOUNG’S CHARACTER ARC IS FINALLY COMPLETED AT GUGUDAN GOPCHANG! He had finally accepted his place in Ha-ri’s life and I loved that they were back to being childhood friends here with the affectionate teasing and reality check, even the fistbump and high-five! I couldn’t have been prouder when he told her to meet someone who sees her for who she is, and that that person could still be Yi-sang.

I’m glad I did not give up on him and props to Park Byung-eun for pulling of this character.

When I watched Ep 15 last night without sub, I thought it was a filler episode not to mention the angst. BUT watching it with sub tonight totally change my view – it’s such a warm episode with our Ha-ri being the most sensible person on all fronts. I love how she is such a great boss, colleague, friend and girlfriend. Nonetheless, noble idiot or not, that separation between YS and HR is doing good to clear their thoughts and help realise what matters to them most.

I really like how this writer gives all side characters their due – the arc between the marketing manager and the photographer is especially impressive. And both ED and HJ grow so much in the course but don’t down the usual trope of getting together eventually.

Everything in this drama is full of common sense without the histrionics – love it.

I’m the embarrassment of our family!
You see, everyone in my family including my parents, my siblings, and my cousins went to Seoul National University School of Law.
I was the only stupid one in my family.
    But that’s not my fault.
    I was… I was just born a little dumb.
But he hit me because I didn’t get good grades.
He looked down on me because I couldn’t understand properly.
He locked me up for causing trouble.
I mean, I’m also his child.
But he treated me like I was invisible.
I just… I just wanted his attention, you see.
I just wanted him to look at me.
So I did tons of crazy stuff to get his attention.
I just ended up going crazy!

For laughs? It’s so sad, he’s just telling his parents didn’t love or care for him because he has mental issues and he’s not intelligent, and that he suffered abuse, and… laughs? I’m totally with you on this one, it’s devastating, and it’s even more devastating to know that Kang Tae instead of trying to stop him, realizes he’s free and wants to taste that freedom, even knowing it will hurt.

Mystic Pop Up Bar episode 12 (finale) had me on the verge of tears all throughout:
Tears of anguish
Tears of grief
Tears of laughter
Tears of joy
Tears of annoyance
Tears of relief
Tears of anger

Listed in no particular order and by no means complete because my emotions were just all over the place.

I remember watching when it premiered because I was experiencing Hospital Playlist withdrawal symptoms and the premise can only be described as wacky (also, Choi Won-Young). Little did I know that the show would burrow it’s own little niche in my heart and now I’m crying because it’s over.
