You can try Mystic Pop Up Bar, it’s really nice and only 12 episodes. It’s currently airing and in fact it will finish this week.
The dramas that I loved the most this year are When the weather is nice and Black Dog. Really nice, slow path and beautifully acted.
Hospital Playlist is also worth watching.
Right now beanie love is set mainly on Oh My Baby and It’s Okay not to be Okay.

King Louie! Pinocchio made me mad, at least Louie had a very nice falling in love story and lovely leads, everything else was just fluffy nonsense.

TBH in 2019, I didn’t like the comebacks that much except for maybe a few (GOT7, MAMAMOO, EXO, (G)-IDLE, Chungha) but none really made that IMPACT… So If you guys have suggestions on good 2019 kpop songs, that would be great! 🙂

I don’t really know much about kpop. I just listen to playlists on Spotify, but slowly I’m selecting favourites and I’m starting to figure out which artists I like. So, lately I’ve been listening a lot to N.flying (Rooftop and Good Baam), Minseo (2 cm) , HyUna (Flower shower) and Search:www OST (specially Bolbbalgan4 and Elaine songs)… Don’t know if any of these are your cup of tea

    IU’S comeback was great!
I definitely think 2019 was chungha’s year, all of her songs were amazing!

I listened to Jang Hye Jin And Yoon Min Soo – Drunk on Love (it’s a sad ballad but the combination of their voices, is just beautiful)

Akmu- ‘how can i love the heartbreak’was amazing too.

G-I-DLE – Senorita and Uh-Oh were such a bop, very catchy lyrics and beat.
    Exo- love shot

OPEN FORUM: Strong Woman Do Bong Soon vs What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim
(Just curious… and bored… mostly bored..)

I’d like to thank the people who participate in my sadistic contests! Have Fun!

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon and What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim. To be honest, I vaguely remember these two dramas since I’ve seen it when it came out. Regardless, I do remember enjoying both these dramas. Both these dramas had comedic factor to its episodes as well as a serious side to it. What’s wrong with secretary Kim plot revolved around the trauma of the two main leads, where as Strong Woman Do Bong Soon was a thriller (I forgot the details). AND I HONESTLY JUST WANT TO KNOW WHO WINS HAHAHA

    1
    0

I’ve noticed I can never vote for these because I’ve only watched one or the other!

    1
    0

    I hate them both. kkk
Wait, I did manage to finish SWDB, my level of masochism is high, but on the other hand nothing in Secretary Kim annoyed me on the same level, it was just badly written and boring, but SWDB had a nice cute ML and SKim had nothing and a bad message about the FL. However SWDB had domestic violence and terrible gay jokes. I can’t vote!

    1
    0

Secretary Kim. Just by comparison, not that I love it much.

    0
    0

SWDBS!!! Admittedly, I watched Secretary Kim while I was having exams so I was extremely stressed and somehow glossed over its problems and just focused on Park Min-Young because she’s distracting like that.
SWDBS had its issues but the leads were cute and I mostly appreciated how much the ML loved DBS for her strength. Also, it was fun watching PBY, a tiny human, do physically impossible things.
Secretary Kim was just – no! It was fun at times (I admit) but their relationship was just too unbalanced.

    3
    0

Oh jeez, Secretary Kim! SWBDS was a mess for me. Plus, Park Seo Joon!

    0
    0

I didn’t care for either. Wait no, let me rephrase. I absolutely despised SWDBS. It is one of the most horribly written dramas I’ve seen in a long time. The only reason I finished it is because I was hate watching it. It was so so bad. I could write essays on how bad it is.

As for Secretary Kim, I wasn’t a fan of it. I hated that the whole drama centered around her quitting and finding herself, but then she never does quit and just hooks up with a guy instead. They retain their power imbalance of him being her boss and her being his servant/secretary.

    2

This will be me if ever He is Psychometric comes up in a quiz. I loved the first half, but HATED the second half with a passion.

      1

I didn’t watch SWDBS and I’m not planning to as I heard it is horrible.

I watched Secretary Kim, and still wonder why. It had a pass in the first half, but then it all went to… the OTP kissing for eight episodes and nothing happening and nothing interesting.

    So I’ll go with none.

    2
    0

I would say Strong Women Do Bong Soon, as much as I hate the serial killer storyline. I did enjoy watching this drama a lot each week. Secretary kim, the whole point was her trying to find herself and then she ended up working as the secretary for him again. She didn’t even take a holiday! What exactly has changed in their relationship -absolutely nothing.

    3
    1

      Correction:
SWDBS – I liked watching park hyung shik and bo-young each week. I did also like his personal assistant as I though his reactions were funny.

      1
      0

Although both were disappointing, enjoyed the comedy in WWWSK more. The side characters were really funny!

    1
    0

The ONLY thing I liked in SWDBS is the interaction between the OTP. The rest was shit.

I find PMY and PSJ very pleasing to the eye. But I tuned in each week to watch just KKY (the Vice President).

    4

While both are excellent, I’m giving this one to Weightlifting Fairy – only because we don’t have noble idiocy (even though it was deserved/made sense in INAR). But this was definitely a tough one. Granted, INAR leads may have had more chemistry…but I loved the weightlifting trio and the friendships in general in Weightlifting Fairy and found the overall drama to be a little more consistent in terms of plotting and tone.

    5
    0

Should I vote on this match? Fairy was one of those dramas that made me want to punch something. The first 2 eps at least, I dropped it, so my vote again goes to cute INAR.

WFKBJ, im biased becaused i dropped INAR mid way, i don’t get the deal about this show.
WLFKBJ on the other hand has to be one of the best coming of age and college show from Korea.

OPEN FORUM: Reply 1988 vs Fight For My Way
(BECAUSE WHY NOT!)

Both are “feel good dramas” in my opinion and I can’t decide which one portrayed that best..
I need the kdrama veteran opinions!

REPLY1988 vs Fight For my Way. These two dramas aren’t similar at all the only thing I’m comparing them with is that both dramas don’t have high stakes. Both are feel good dramas that are what I would describe as simple. Its just a bunch of characters living their normal lives, who want to fulfill their dreams. I found both dramas really easy to watch, maybe there were stale parts here and there but overall it was quite enjoyable.

    0

    For me definitely Reply 1988

    2
    0

Reply 1988 all the way. Not sure if I’d call it a feel good drama? Reply 88 is one of the best kdramas in my opinion so there were not many that could have beaten it in these matches, it’s like a heavy weight vs light weight kk.

    2
    0

    Hands down, “Reply 1988” <3

    3
    0

Reply 1988 is a perfect drama. On the other hand Fight for my way has a lot of issues and most importantly for the main love story is kind of not very healthy, you can’t love a person really if you don’t let them do the job they love. I found it pretty mean that FL put the condition on him to leave professional mma before she would say yes to him. It’s already a very physically challenging profession and most of players can’t play for long time and it was the dream of ML to do it.

    1

Reply 88. I’m one of the very few people who disliked Fight For My Way. And it truly saddened me because I loved all the actors.

On the other hand… I don’t think I will ever call R88 a feel good easy watch… Maybe R97, but never R88. It seemed designed to break your heart at every other step.

Does anybody else here think its weird that in hit the top his dad fell in love with his longtime crush. I mean yeah he didnt even know he had a son but still YOUR DAD STOLE YOUR DREAM GIRL! LIKE CMON

I dropped that drama when the love interest went on a hike with her coworkers, sprained her ankle (or something) and instead of getting a ride with her coworkers she decided to stay. In the park. By herself. And call her love interest and it was the big reveal for who she wanted to be with.
It seemed like that drama was set up to be so much more than a typical love triangle romcom. I wanted so much more out of the father/son relationship. But, maybe it happened. I dropped. With a whole lotta bitterness.

    4
    3

agreed! finally someone who understands hahahaha

      2
      1

The father and son love triangle was stupid and icky, and why did I bother watching a YSY drama when he always makes me feel stupid and icky?

      3
      0

Agree. I cant remember how many eps I watched, but I got curious and read the recaps. It wasnt necessarily the romance line but that the father/son angle wasn’t really developed. Maybe I went in with the wrong expectations, but that is what i thought the heart of the show was going to be.

      2
      0

that is truly the most digusting plotline.. i dropped the moment hint of romance started..

there was no father – son plotline..

    horrible drama

    2
    0

I liked it. 🙂 I like weird things what can I say? I thought drama was never going to have the courage to go there but it did! I think it would be good if people explained why something is bad instead of just saying they expected something different. Did you watch the entire drama? I don’t want to say more than you know about the rest of the story.

    1
    1

I watched the whole thing. But i still felt uncomfortable with the relationship. Hey opinions are opinions man, and i respect your input on this as well!

      1
      1

Thanks! I never felt Dabong was that kid’s father so I don’t think he had a moral issue there. The version of him that became the kid’s biological father was a year after that moment he went to future and drama made a good job explaining his real father was the man who raised him. Blood ties are not that important if people never even met, it was refreshing in that aspect. About the love line itself I also liked the girl never liked the son, she was always just a friend to him.

        2
        0

I think you’re poking a bear here. An angry pissed off bristling bear who hated everything about that gross OTP.

    1
    1

Stupid and icky. I’m just gonna walk away from the stupid and icky, and let the bear ripped it to shreds.

      0
      1

I watched that whole stupid gross drama just so I could see how they would justify him hitting on his son’s girlfriend. And then they went with one of the biggest narrative copouts I’ve ever seen.

        0
        2

          Same. Still mad at myself.

          1
          1

And I just finished another drama I should have dropped because argggghhhhhh, it’s all dumb. Why do they not listen to me as a I rant while I’m watching?

            1
            0

Sorry, don’t mean to poke any bear but as far as I remember they were never more than friends? The guy wouldn’t even confess and when he did she never reciprocated his feelings? She was her own person, she was entitled to like whoever she wanted. Personally I would have understood if ML, after finding out his “son”s feelings, had chose to give her up but I also understood the other way.

          1
          3

Going after the girl your son likes is just gross, regardless of the circumstances. I don’t care that the show then twisted itself into a pretzel to find a way for him to be both his father and not his father. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. This just goes to show that kdrama, as a rule, doesn’t know how to deal with men being paternal. They’d rather show him going after some young girl his son likes than him building a relationship with a kid he believes is his son.

            1
            0

I think he didn’t know he liked her when he got somewhat involved with her? But later if he had made the choice to give her up I’d have understood.
About being his father I’ll politely disagree. 🙂 Drama did a good job portraying how his real father was the guy who raised him, whom he had a very good relationship with, one of the themes for me was how irrelevant was his issue about the biological father, which I find a nice theme for a kdrama, they make too much of blood ties.

            1
            0

I disagree and we’ll leave it at that.

OPEN FORUM: Introverted Boss vs I’m Not a Robot
(Yes, Im back. This has become a problem. Send Help.)

Thanks to everyone who’s been responding to my posts! I really enjoy reading the comments!

1
10

The reason for matching these two is the similarities of the characters and somewhat similar plot. A rich boy who can’t interact with anyone (except for some). I know in “Im not A Robot” he literally cannot touch people and in “Introverted Boss” he’s just super shy but the premise is still parallel with one another: A certain person entered into their lives which enabled them to interact with other people with ease. Both of these dramas were really entertaining and extremely emotional. If I told you I didn’t shed a tear once or twice, I’d be lying. Watching these two male lead’s character development was one of the highlights of both dramas and also the female leads who did their part in helping them change. So guys do your thing, tell me WHICH ONE WAS BETTER??

    0
    4

I haven’t watched I’m Not A Robot but I can tell you straight up that Introverted Boss is absolutely terrible. Teeeeerrible. So much so, that they had to change the Lead Lady’s personality within 3 episodes, she grated so many nerves.

So INAR definitely wins on this one. Plus, based on the Fan Wall while it was airing, it was/is seemingly a Beanie favourite.

    4

Yes, I just liked INAR for the main otp but many people loved it while IB was hated by many kkk

Open Forum: Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo vs My I.D. Is Gangnam Beauty
(Honestly I’m just passing the time till school starts…)

Graceful Family vs Vagabond was too one sided, this one’s more fair

3
19

Choosing between these two dramas is extremely difficult. Both share parallels within the story, setting, and plot. What I personally like about these two dramas is that both are very wholesome and the romance is quite cute and sweet. As a college student myself, I can kinda relate to their struggles and hardships. Also, the romance in these dramas make me lowkey jealous. Both of these dramas share something in common, story-wise. I can’t seem to decide which I like more. SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS!

    6

Bok Joo for the WIN! 🏋🏻‍♀️🏋🏻‍♀️

I enjoyed Gangnam Beauty and admired the fact that they wanted to touch on issues of cosmetic surgery/bullying/self-esteem but the magic of WFKBJ is that it remains in your heart and memory long after it’s over.

    11
    0

I choose My ID is Gangnam Beauty. Sure, the male lead had the personality of a rock, but Im Soo Hyang was absolutely incredible and the plot tackled issues of plastic surgery and bullying really well.

I had to stop watching Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo halfway through. Came back to it about a month later and was able to finish. I found Bok Joo too whiny. The drama was decent overall though.

    3
    2

Weightlifting Fairy is the timeless feel-good youth drama I reach for whenever I’m having a hard time. It’s more optimistic and lighthearted than Gangnam Beauty, which I think makes it overall more palatable for a wider audience. I also think it does a better job with female friendships and youth in general, even though it generally focuses on lighter themes. It also packed more of an emotional punch for me than MIDGB. I loved both dramas but my vote is definitely with WFKBJ.

    13

Again with my very biased opinion. I only ever got as far as 3 or 4 episodes in My I.D is Gangnam so, I’m team Weightlifting’s Kim Bok Joo.

Graceful Family DESTROYED Vagabond in my recent post. Safe to say that Graceful Family is one of the best, if not the best drama in 2019? If there were better dramas last year please let me know!

Nothing tops that Fish Funeral ever!

    2
    1

Be Melodramatic, Sky castle (it finished in 2019 though), Kingdom. They were all good too. I saw little of Graceful Family, that was good but makjangish, the rest mentioned aren’t really that.

    1
    0

Wait, how can being better than Vagabond, which was basically one of biggest drama jokes of last year, mean this other thing was one of the best? Graceful Family got some cult status just like The Last Empress that’s all. They were both funny soap operas. If you had to choose just one drama that most people liked and had some better quality the kdrama would probably be Sky Castle. I’m not even SC’s biggest fan but there is no comparison kkk

    1
    1

Maybe I got overwhelmed by Vagabond’s action scenes, that all (since im always watching romcoms) HAHAHA But sure I’ll give Sky Castle a try in the near future… It really seems like an interesting drama!
