Beanie level: Eunuch in drag

This is really all kinds of cute. Reminds me of Kim Woobin attending Lee Jongsuk’s birthday fanmeet https://twitter.com/Sshana2/status/1484840230087626753

Day 31. Year-end Top 5

I decided to try and whittle down my favourite dramas from the ones I watched this year and after a lot of agonising –

The Korean nominees were – D.P, Mr. Queen, Racket Boys, The Red Sleeve Cuff, Vincenzo

The non-Korean nominees were – Hikaru No Go, One and Only, Word of Honour, You Are My Glory

And the winners are 🥁🥁🥁…

Day 30. Actors over Dramas

I’ve named quite a few of my favourite actors and actresses in the favourite FL/ML/Idol Actor lists already. So excluding those, these are also ones I loved watching on my screen this year.

I may not have loved all their dramas/ loved every part of their only drama but these were the ones who made it impossible for me to look away even when I wanted to give up on the characters or the story.

The third one is my crush! Just saw him in prison playbook!

Day 29. Most Content Ever

Today the award for Most Content Ever – if dramas were a value-for-money product, no show would give you as much bang for your buck as Mouse.

In one show you got 19 70-minute episodes + a 100 minute finale + 2 hour-long episodes from the point of view of the ‘Predator’.

That’s nearly 26 hours of content in one drama NOT including the 2 hour ‘theatrical cut’ which showed the first 17 episodes in chronological order or the other ‘special episodes’. Who could ask for more 😅!

2

They must have been filming for months on end with little sleep. No wonder Lee Seunggi nailed looking unhinged hahaha

    1
    1

Ha I’m imagining him having to shoot the same scene from multiple POVs. Guaranteed to make anyone go stab stab🔪.

Day 28. The non-OTP I didn’t think I’d adore (and wouldn’t mind if they became an OTP!)

I realised that I haven’t mentioned Daebak Real Estate in any of my round-ups even though I loved the show. Funny, exciting and, at least for me, not too scary!

I wasn’t sure how Jung Yong-hwa would match up to Jang Na-ra and of course she was the scene stealer but he definitely held his own and I adored Ji-ah and In-bum together.

I liked that their partnership wasn’t perfect but it capitalised on their respective strengths and when push came to shove they were always there for each other.

Day 27. The OST I never want to hear again

It\’s Driving Me Crazy from Law School. The most literal result of an OST ever 😵. My ears still hurt from the shrill repetition of it in EVERY EPISODE.

Made me actively miss Paradise from Boys over Flowers or rather Almost Paradiiiiissssseeeee.

It can never be worse than Stand by you man. It is impossible.

I saved myself by abandoning that show midway so my trauma from that song is limited 😅.

Day 26. The ML I want to forget

I\’m sure not just me but probably Lee Min-ki himself wants to forget that he was the ML of Oh! Master. Fittingly so I guess since he died and they DIDN\’T TELL ANY OF THEIR FAMILY AND FRIENDS 🤦‍♀️.

Day 25. The FL I want to forget

Welp we\’re going freestyle and I\’m about as creative as a goldfish so I\’ll just go with reversing some of our earlier prompts

I was horrified by the FL of Lovestruck in the City and had zero sympathy for her – I wish k-drama writers would stop showing past trauma as an excuse for the leads to be shitty to other people.

Day 24. My secret pleasure

There are no secrets when it comes to k-dramas so story time – dram****l uploaded episodes of an old Hindi soap opera earlier this year, one which I used to watch religiously a decade back.

Of course it was OTT and ridiculous but the lead couple and the OST were still 🔥. Re-watching bits and pieces of it was my secret pleasure this year 🤗.

Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. Unfortunately it’s not available with subtitles, at least not where I watched it.

I remember watching one Hindi drama called ‘Itna karo na mjhe pyar’, it was on YouTube with subtitles, and I really enjoyed it back then!

Oh I think I’ve seen a few episodes of that but life caught up and I never went back.

Oh I remember it was a one of the most popular soaps!! Is it still going on 😅🤭?

    1
    1

Lol yes it was pretty popular but no they ended it within 1 year, which was another reason why I liked it – ended at the perfect point, no bizarre 20 year time jumps!

      1
      1

Seriously!!! 😳. Wah!! But wasn’t there a second season with a different cast if I remember correctly? Maybe that’s why I felt it was longer than it actually was.

        1
        1

Yeah I think they branded it as Season 2 but with a different story and cast entirely lol

Day 23. Best bromance/womance

Has to be Racket Boys – the best representation of male, female, and male-female friendships. Just an awesome bunch of kids living their best life!

Day 22. Best secretary/ assistant

Can’t remember any memorable secretaries but if it were a sageuk special these 2 would be top of mind – they’re devoted and diligent but also hilarious.

Day 21. That cute little drama

I just finished bingeing it this week – Vanishing My First Love (Kieta Hatsukoi) – simple, sweet, adorable rom-com.

Both leads are so cute but I have a soft spot for serious and earnest Ida 💕

    I loved Ida.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about this one!

    1
    1

Well it’s only 10 episodes of 20 minutes each so it’s easy to binge and is very drama-free. Good watch when you just need a quick pick-me-up. Give it a try!

Day 20. That shirtless scene out of the blue I am so grateful for

Does a full-on bath scene count as ‘out of the blue’ 🤔? Sharing so everyone can decide for themselves 😇.

Song Joong-ki and Kim Min-jae’s Man vs Shower scenes on the other hand were fully gratuitous and can (should) be shared.

These are gifs btw. Gotta click on them 🤭

I’d say bath (in sageuks)/ shower scenes are THE canon shirtless scenes. It looks like Writers are chilling down a bit, but when I started watching dramas a couple of years ago, it felt like every drama had a shower scene sometime in the first 2 episodes… I guess it was a way to get viewers hooked 😂

    1
    1

I think it’s also a rite of passage for every actor who comes back after military service – so Junho is just paying his dues lol

Day 19. My 2021 crush

I won’t name people I’ve been crushing on for years (cough Junho cough Kyung-ho cough). Instead I’ll just share eye candy from all the Chinese actors I loved this year 🤩

5

Haven’t seen the last guy but yes to all of them! I love these characters to bits!

    1
    1

Last guy is Wu Lei (Leo Wu), a young but really promising actor. The pic is from Our Times but I also liked him in Cross Fire and The Long Ballad.

      1
      1

Zhang Xincheng!!! He and Junho are this year’s surprisng crushes for me too. I’ve seen both of their works before but haven’t like them this much before what they did this year. Sometimes a character just brings out the best out of an actor.

    1
    1

Yup I’ve seen Zhang Xicheng in plenty of shows but this was the one where I went ‘oh he’s GOOD’. You’re absolutely right about some characters bringing out the best.

Day 18. Best cameo

Nichkhun and Chansung in Vincenzo were the most memorable (2PM FTW). I love ridiculous ‘show-within-a-show’ scenes especially if the drama has a cracktastic name. Plus the cameo actually connected to the story unlike the drop-in cameos we often get (Kim Seon-ho in Run On I’m looking at you).

Park Hae-soo in Racket Boys was also good

Day 17. Best idol-turned-actor

I love k-pop so I tend to make a special note in my drama workbook when an actor, in a drama I’m watching, is/was an idol.

This was truly the year of idols-turned-actors. The ones I watched on screen this year included Minho (SHINee), Eunwoo (Astro), Rowoon (SF9), Jihoon (Wanna One), L (Infinite), Yonghwa (CNBLUE), Taecyeon and Junho (both 2PM) among men and Sooyoung, Yuri (both SNSD), Hyeri (Girl’s Day), Nana (After School) and Eugene (S.E.S.) among women. And I’m sure I’m forgetting some 😅.

If I had to pick the best it’d be Sooyoung in Run On and Junho in The Red Sleeve Cuff. I’ll also put a placeholder for Park Hyungsik because I’m determined to binge Happiness (scaredy-cat me is bracing herself for PHS). Till then I’ll enjoy the pretty 🥰😍

Since this is the freshest – poor baby Gyeom in The King\’s Affection. That was quick and brutal.

Day 14. Most memorable scene

The scene in You Are My Spring where they talk about their past selves and their shadows turn into their younger versions. It was beautifully shot and the entire conversation was so healing and lovely. Plus it culminates in some adorkable dancing by Kim Dong Wook.

I wish I could find a full clip but please make do with these images!

Day 13. Drama beanies loved but I didn\’t / Drama I loved but beanies didn\’t

I didn\’t like Hello Me! (ducks) or Run On (hides behind sofa).

I also didn\’t dislike Jirisan as much as everyone else though that may just be my love for Ju Ji Hoon…
