Beanie level: The Goblin’s underpants

My love, my bride, is a film about the ups and downs of marriage. Proper rom com with laugh out loud moments but also shows the challenges that come with poor communication.

Finally got English subs for this show so far it’s making me laugh looking forward to seeing how things progress.

It’s either Goo Pilsoo is not there or Never give up. Hopefully it will come up with either name

Has anyone seen Moorim School? I want to know if it’s horror/scary I have a very low threshold for scary but all I can see if fantasy in the description and special powers.

I wonder what is happening in K drama land, I am noticing a sense of worry and disappointment, coming through whilst reading through the comments sections of dramas across all genres. If a drama is going well there is a fear that the writer will go rogue and ruin it. If the writing has deteriorated, frustration and disappointment prevail. I get the feeling that the impact of writing throughout the pandemic and the current financial fallout has finally taken its toll and writers like everyone else just need a decent holiday and want to fast forward to a time when this is a dim and distant memory.

I am keeping current dramas to a minimum and instead I am working my way through some older dramas based on recommendations from the DramaBeans Sunbaes. I have reviewed the recaps and comments made whilst it was airing. It seems that there are a few of us doing this as the comments section from something that aired years ago now has some comments from recent months.

My hope is there will always be at least one drama that is on point and the gaps between one finishing and the next starting will be a couple of weeks max. I miss the era of having most of the week covered with dramas I looked forward to.

I think we’re just a bit jaded. When we were new to dramas, unnecessary plot lines were bemusing or annoying or we just used to go with it. Now we just sigh and expect it. Another one with a prejudiced mother / unnecessary heartbreak / unexplainable ending.
I don’t know about everyone else, but I’ve lost patience with badly-written break ups and ‘happy’ endings where characters haven’t learned from their mistakes.
That said, I’m so desperate for good vibes that I’ll slog through a lot to get it. ^^

    13
    1

I think it’s true we allow more when is it new however later it’s no longer cute or funny. When I first started watching dramas I noticed certain things kept happening and it was only later that I learnt the official name was a trope.

I have always struggled with the ‘respect’ explanation when the chaebol mother calls on her son’s girlfriend and the girlfriend answers the phone, keeps it secret from the boyfriend, goes to the meeting to be insulted with either the water or envelop and then leaves without saying anything to the boyfriend. It just seems disrespectful that writers feel this is a short hand way to tell a story about the abuse of power in 2022. I think the audiences are questioning the use of these kinds of tropes and asking for more so when tropes are executed poorly the drop in ratings reflects this. However, the whole system needs to be called out for green lighting lazy writing/poor directing/production etc. when there are so many budding writers wanting to showcase fresh new ideas.
I wonder if some actors wanting to cover their bills and stay relevant are taking on the lower quality dramas only because they are likely to be mainstream, attract the sponsorship and there is so little on offer that is standout good.

I’m not saying I hate dramas now – I’m still enjoying them, loving the characters, the talented actors, good relationships and twists I wasn’t expecting. It’s still my happy place and I think I gush more than I complain. If I’m not into a show, I drop it.

I’m just not into idols who can’t act and shows which really fluff the ending. ( I’ve invested my time and you ruined people I cared about T_T )

        4
        1

Rom coms and slice of life light and fluffy K Dramas are my go to happy place and we have seen some great examples this year and there are more coming.

I do think people are enjoying the dramas that meet their criteria I think the problem is most dramas are mixed genres these days so it’s harder to avoid the genres that we don’t like as much. This leads to people starting something and then discovering its not what they expected so they reluctantly hate watch or drop it in frustration.

          1
          1

True, though Link surprised me in a positive way! I wasn’t expecting the crime angle but it really works.
The biggest disappointment / turn off that I can see is a show which doesn’t deliver on what it promises, be it rom coms where people have terminal illnesses, crime shows where the killer gets away or a “healing” drama where people don’t end up in a significantly better place.
Recently I’ve wrinkled my nose at the endings of: Vincenzo (unexpected graphic violence), 25/21 (unexpected miscommunication), Beauty Inside (characters were miraculously “healed” of their quirks). If the tone of a drama suddenly changes at the end, I start to frown. If it strays in the middle, I’m more likely to stick in there…

That’s probably why Dramabeans have started these alternative ending posts… ^^

I’m not finding that at all. I have more currently airing dramas I’m watching now more than ever: Link, Jinxed, Alchemy of Souls. Extraordinary Attorney Woo. To my star 2, and Yumi’s cells. I have several waiting in the wings as well (Bloody heart, Devil judge, Beyond Evil, and Pil Gu —if it ever gets subbed). I drop shows that I just don’t feel or become monotonous (Woori most recently). But this is how I watch dramas. Then there are times that I’m barely watching one drama.

    6
    1

Wow I remember those days when it was spaced out over the week. I am watching five that are currently airing but most are on at the weekend and I have one older one. I have just completed Pachinko and 20th Century boy and girl.
Dear. M has been good as it airs in batches of 6 so feels like the best of both worlds.

It’s been like that for a long time, as viewers have been let down by past dramas or just lost that loving feeling for kdramas. I took a break from reading comments for quite awhile because it was affecting my enjoyment. I’m a happy camper these days though I still avoid comment sections sometimes.

    4
    1

Good plan. I use the same policy and avoid dramas designed to make the audience hate a protagonist as that means I am allowing someone else to impact on my mood.

I think some comments are spot on and nuanced and others I am waiting for them to submit a drama so I can see what makes them so great that they can critique with such confidence! I have always had issues with critics who are not able to do the job they have so many opinions on.

I try to focus on my taste rather than the writer so I am upset if I have taken time to choose a drama in a genre that suits my taste then some random plot line leads to a genre I can’t handle coming in and then ruining my experience. If that is something the writer wants to include thats fine but I want a heads up. Maybe we need a labelling system like food with colour coding and the equivalent of clear labelling of E numbers🤣

      1
      1

        >I have always had issues with critics who are not able to do the job they have so many opinions on.

You shouldn’t, it’s normal to critique heavily if you have a lot experience with something, even if you can’t do it, because you know what is the superior version. They are not being mean or egocentric, they just know more about the subject.

        1
        0

I feel like dramas are the same, so maybe people have changed.

I watch/rewatch old shows all the time, and I don’t feel like they’re major changes now.
Romcoms have changed a little, now we have more murderers/stalkers than usual, and nicer male leads.
9 years ago I used to skip the male leads’ scenes (I don’t like tsunders) and now I skip the stalkers/murderers scenes. That’s it for me. 😂

I miss murder-free romcoms, but I still enjoy new shows. A lot.

    2
    1

Either way you are skipping something love it🤣

It’s good to have the perspective of that amount of time and to watch the dramas from that era through current eyes. I agree that the males are less likely to be stroppy and cold and even more gorgeous as fashion and hair cuts have changed. There were a few where that trope was not a feature.

It’s the murder/stalker elements that distress me I can’t watch Suspicious partner because of that element but now I have got through Why her I probably could just fast forward through that like I had to forward through chunks of I can hear your voice.

      1
      1

Yep, shows like Secret Garden, She Was Pretty or You’re Beautiful make me want to scream. I can’t stand mean/rude MLs.

The hair… if we compared to idols’ hair style of the same era, the actors where fine. 😂

Why can’t we have something like Kim Bok Joo, Ho Gu’s Love, Couple or Trouble, Fight For My Way, Coffee Prince… There are so many cliches that can be fun, so why do we keep getting the “main couple bonding because of a stalker/murderer” trope? Even if the show is good and fun, I would prefer if it had less drama-thriller and more romance-comedy, that’s why they’re called romcoms. I already watch thrillers, makjangs, slice of life, etc. So I don’t need my romcoms to make me cry or solve crimes.

I dropped Suspicious Partner and I haven’t watched Why Her, but I don’t think they’re supposed to be romcoms, aren’t those legal/crime dramas? I don’t think you can skip the murder/stalker elements from those shows because that’s like the whole plot, right? Maybe I’m mistaken I never read the synopsis, sorry. Hehe

        1
        1

Suspicious partner and Why her are based in the legal field. I can handle slice of life so I like legal dramas like Miss Hammurabi where the main characters are not being attacked but are supporting the defendants or victims so it’s a different legal disputes each week and they are not murder cases.

I like all the dramas you mentioned apart from Coffee Prince and I tolerate the Oh my Venus, type drama but Fated to love you also had the most annoying laugh which killed it for me but I watched to the end hoping she would go off with the second lead.

          1
          2

I remember shipping a second lead in a Taiwanese drama and being beyond delighted when she actually ended up with him. Ah, good times…

Or was I just being naïve and he was supposed to be the lead and I just didn’t realise it?

            1
            0

Oh, I get what you’re saying.

Ps. I think you’re kind of describing Attorney Woo, haha. You said you’re gonna give it a try, right? I hope you enjoy it.

            1
            0

For me, as a seasoned watcher there’s always a niggling worry when a drama starts off with a
    ✅ particularly great character/cast
    ✅ incredible writing
    ✅ uncommon plot
✅ or one filled with twists and fresh takes on old tropes

But that’s because dramaland has proven time and again it’s almost impossible for a drama to sustain 16+ hours of greatness. Or make everyone happy throughout its run. This doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the drama though.

    4
    0

For me, I have one major issue.

Horror/Serial Killer/Zombie tropes – I can’t remember when it started but for years now, almost every kdrama had some element of either ghosts, zombies or psychotic serial killer/blood/gore. I’ll be happily watching what I thought was a romcom and then something would jump out and give me a fright. Some days I can take it, some days I can’t. Master’s Sun, Hotel Del Luna, Come and Hug Me, Mouse.. to name a few. Surprisingly, if I can accept murders/serial killer stories if kept at a minimum eg: those in legal dramas.
Bad Endings – I don’t mean sad endings but bad ones. A drama would start out good but would fizzle out at the end. Like the writer ran out of ideas and lost his/her steam on how to end it meaningfully and just decide to throw the kitchen sink at it or give it a shock factor. These type of dramas are worse than the horror kind because usually by this time, I would have invested my precious time in it and I can’t get the time nor the emotions I poured into it back. I would feel so betrayed. At least with the first trope, I can choose to drop.

So yeah, after being burnt so many times, I approach all dramas with fingers crossed these days and the minute I sense myself losing interest, I bail before it bails on me.

I always choose a drama to watch one at a time and it all depends on my mood at that moment. For example, I finished My Ajusshi just some time ago and now I’m watching… Don’t Dare to Dream (Jealousy Incarnate) for the first time! I believe you were the one who recommended me this show. I am happy to report that I like it so far! I just finished ep3 a moment ago, and I look forward to the next eps.

Thank you for the recommendation! 🥺🌷

I didn’t like the personality of the editor when he first turned up in the Webtoon as it was such a contrast to Babi but from what I remember he was at least ok to look at why did they choose a Mr average to play the part? All the other ex boyfriends were good looking in different ways (I loved the post break up hairstyle on Woong).
I did laugh out loud with the editor’s ridiculous approach in university and the way it back fired every time.

Nothing, just going by the webtoon. The editor in Episode 8 was Ahn Dae-yong, not Soon-rok. ADY had a crush on Yumi in the webtoon too. I have no idea if we’ll see Soon-rok.

Reasons to love DramaBeans Part Two

The range of topics covered:

Everyday sometimes several times a day there is a post that is an interesting read and warrants a response. I have been looking through the archives and notice that I am not the only one compelled to respond with a comment years after the feature was posted.

The three regular features I love the most are:

Drama recommendations: It’s always interesting to either confirm that I have watched way too many or to give ideas to fill the days waiting for the on air dramas to be released. A week can feel like a month when there is a notable cliffhanger. It’s even worse when we know it is out but we have another few hours to wait before the dubbed versions are uploaded

Drama chats: these are the ones most highly anticipated especially when it’s a controversial topic. The recent stand outs are:
When bad dramas happen to good actors,
That drama you hate watched all the way through (I didn’t realise there was a name for this experience🤣)
The drama you couldn’t love even though you wanted to
The drama that wrecked your heart

Open Threads: these are so needed when we have something to say but nowhere else to post it. It’s great to see the variety of topics that come up on this page each Friday.

Thank you DramaBeans you provide a much needed service. 👏🏾

Just discovered a great read. Trigger warning mentions details of her mum death from cancer

Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner is a memoir about her childhood growing up Korean American and her relationship with her mum. I have the audiobook which is read by the author. Zauner heads the alternative pop group Japanese Breakfast. I have not heard of her before but it was on the recommendations list because I have listened to a few Korean novels. I am half way through but wanted to mention it here because it is so interesting. I am always impressed when young people write books about their life because it takes a lot of courage to share your life story.

Reasons to Love DramaBeans Part One

The Community
The regular features the DramaBeans staff put out are always well thought out and trigger a lively discussions unless it’s a dry drama that no one is watching. Yes Eve, we are talking about you!

K-dramas are designed to get the audience talking so it’s been such a great stress release to finally have a place to vent, laugh and wipe away the tears as a collective week after week. Whatever my thoughts there is always someone who puts them in a comment much more eloquently than me so I know I am not alone in my random thinking. I especially love reading other people’s alternative plots when the actual drama has gone rogue.

This is a fun place to be, every day there is a guaranteed laugh out loud moment for me. No matter what time of day or night there is always something interesting to read. I am even reading recaps on dramas I have no intention of watching just to understand the background when there is a lot of activity in the comments section!

I hope as more people sign up and make a small financial investment in the platform we will continue to build on this great community and gain the benefits of faster servers and more writers.

I had to log in just to like your comment! You put it very nicely why we love Dramabeans. I hope the site will continue to be a safe space full of lively discussions about K dramas and all! And I’m glad you’re here with us, Reply1988! 🥰💕💕💕

P.S. I managed to watch only 5 eps of Reply 1988. Guess I wasn’t in the mood for it. 🤣

Thank you for the kind words☺️❤️

I agree with some dramas it’s about timing but sometimes it’s just not a good fit, classics don’t work for everyone. I couldn’t get into Goblin or Coffee prince I watched them both to the end just in case I was missing something but I never found it!

Yumi’s cells
The dad’s reaction to Yumi having a boyfriend was a classic and the end result was typical of how showing off so often leads to shame and embarrassment😐

It’s so sweet when parents name their shops after their children. I loved that in Our beloved summer too.

Jinxed at first had a special guest appearance by the dog from Lets eat 2. I just realised each series had three things running through them an appreciation of good food, the main lead and a dog.

And they were having fun with a “cat coin” instead of Dogecoin.

LoL thats so me. Yet I can recall books I read 20 years ago. I may not recall titles but once I read one or 2 pages my brain jumps to the ending lol. Same if some movies and shows

    2

Yes! That’s how I discovered there are remakes of dramas. I was watching one drama which seemed new to me but certain scenes were so familiar that’s when I found out that it was the Chinese version of a Korean drama and I have seen. This has happened twice so far.

I have now watched two of the three Let’s eat seasons. I like the main character he has good bromance and friendships with most of the main cast in each season. I couldn’t watch the first season because one of the regular characters was just disgusting so every time he was on the screen he made me feel sick. I think it was supposed to be funny as they had similar characters but not as bad in season two and three. The main lead had a messy house which is contrast to how he presents when he is out and about in the work context.

The push pull of the friends to lovers trope is played out to the full and we don’t get to see the romantic relationship once they start dating. The only other drama I have watched where there is not even a ten minute at the end of the season show of their relationship being played out is Soundtrack#1. I wonder with the friends to lovers trope if the writers feels that they have shown what their relationship is like throughout the drama so the only thing that’s changes is they now have a physical element.

I would recommend this series if you like food and want to hear about the benefits of the dishes. You get to see the characters eat and enjoy rather than have domestics or try to squeeze in dialogue while eating huge mouthfuls of food. They eat huge amounts of food so don’t know how they fitted it all in. Also trigger warning if you are an ethical vegan you may have issues as they eat a lot of meat etc but it is particularly difficult to watch the octopus scenes as they are clearly alive (crawling off the plate!) and are still moving while they are being prepared for eating. I am vegan but have not got a strong ethical stance but that was the one thing that I could not handle.

2
14

Have you seen a lizard lose its tail? The tail will be alive on its own even after being cut off from the body. It is the same with octopuses! They all have separate nerves in their limbs and tails because of which they’ll keep twitching when cut off from the body.

I am a vegetarian and this is the first time I’m hearing about ethical watching. I will definitely not live watch an animal/bird/sea creature or any creature with 5 senses being killed, but I can tolerate watching them being cooked onscreen as long as they don’t show the blood. I guess watching “Masterchef Australia” has increased my tolerance😅😅

    1
    1

I think the issue was the crawling off the plate like it was thinking ‘while you are chatting let me see if I can get away without you noticing!’ To me that was evidence the whole creature was still alive as they picked it up and cut off the legs but the chicken with no head after effects of the legs still moving once they were cut off and in the stew makes sense but was still not easy to watch. I used to eat meat as a child so understand that animals become dinner but there is something about witnessing the death that impacts.

I find it interesting that there is a movement to increase vegetarianism by making plant based food replicate meat for those who find it hard to transition so some burgers have beetroot to make them ‘bleed’ that is a hard no from me🫢

I liked the first and third series, but never managed to get through 2. The obsession on the FL’s weight felt awkward and I was disappointed that his first relationship (which took a whole series to get going) just … ended.

    2
    1

The second season was amazing a whole season of to and fro and then finally a sudden arrival, one surprise kiss, this is our day one, let’s go eat and roll credits. I was like wow does this actor have something in his contract that says no prolonged kiss scenes but I will do a shower scene with the boys. Especially having watched season 3 first where there was no day one. I had been pre-warned by Ally that they had to cut the last few episodes as he was drafted.

I think season 3 shows how much he did love and commit to her once they were together though. I liked the story telling of 3 and 2 and wondered if the premise was to show single people who enjoy eating but don’t always have company why they have to have a person with poor hygiene in each season. There seemed to be a spate of dramas where disgusting elements were part of the ‘humour’. The ‘I need the toilet desperately’ or have a wind issue was the most popular. Passing wind was even included in Be melodramatic.

I’m glad you watched these! Yeah, a trigger warning for vegetarians/vegans should be a thing for any Korean foodie shows. I know someone in my other kdrama group who recently ate those live octopuses and posted it on FB! Even I was disgusted! 🤮 I liked the relationships the most.

    1
    1

Gosh who knew it was seen as a badge of honour to eat something alive😱 I think I was struggling with who was the first person who thought let me see what happens if…! Because it’s weird there is no blood or ink or something when it is basically being attacked you would think there would be a reaction. It’s not just about eating meat I want to know who was tempted to try eating mouldy cheese and then promoted it as a specialty🤢

I actually like Let’s Eat 3 the best, then 2, then 1. Du jun, any plans for Let’s Eat 4 (pretty please with kimchi on top of fried rice?)

    3
    1

I agree 3 felt like it had the best characters and he had matured due to the loss but was still a great person to have as a friend. I would like him as a person in real life, his level of confidence and social skills was amazing. I was also glad to see he was branching out of insurance so if there is a four I hope he has left that all behind and maybe had opened his own restaurant with flying in speciality chefs for rotations so you could have a different type of food each week but stick with your favourite restaurant with ambience and high quality servers. He would announce the qualities of the different ingredients which were always seasonal and ethically sourced.

Btw, did you read that Hyeri and Du Jun are set to star in Idangbaek Butler – and MBC fantasy drama? Reply 1988 meets Let’s Eat! I’m not sure when it airs, hopefully later this year!

Omg i’ve been here for 6 months and my level is still noble idiot…😂
I’m glad you are enjoying your time here

How can I not have a great time when everyone has such a great sense of humour when sharing pain or lusting after the male leads ❤️ It’s the best entertainment and a great stress release when a drama has lost the plot and I need to check if it is just me who thinks this and login and there is a whole conversation already in full flow. The Why her and Jinxed at first discussions have been two great examples.

    Congrats!
Interestingly, you’ve upgraded with fewer likes and comments than me. It must all be up to the following / followers!

The one thing I have noticed on other people’s profiles is they all have completely different numbers of likes and comments for each of the stages so it can’t be just those that lead to the change in levels. Have you seen the post from Sicarius on the different levels? She says the same thing. So her theory is there are unknown factors like time spent and frequency of posting on the site.

I have looked at the beanies on the higher levels and most of them don’t have high numbers of followers, they have not written any reviews or posted on the fan wall so I don’t know if these actually have that much impact on the change in levels.

One theory I have is other people’s engagement with you is just as important as your engagement on the site so I like and follow as many people especially newbies as I can because I hope that will help them with their levels. Following someone doesn’t lead me to have notifications when they post so I have missed posts from my favourite people. I also have no way of knowing who I am following or who follows me as I can’t see a list anywhere. There is one person I read an interesting post on their fan wall with a link offsite and when I came back on the site to respond I couldn’t remember who it was. I am still searching for that person…😒

Sites need to be active to grow and stay relevant so I think it’s a great feature having the levels and such excellent names too as it does add an extra incentive for engagement. There must be points of different weighting attached to the things that keep the site busy. The staff contributors to the main features have climbed to high levels with lower numbers than the beanies. The theory being when you are truly interested in the site topic you will naturally do the things that help the site and therefore will be rewarded by climbing the levels organically. That’s probably why they haven’t explained the ways to get to the higher levels quickly.

Omona. How did you do that? I’ve been here for two years and I’m just some panties. I bet you’re gonna be the Fan Club President (+7 levels) when I become a Wrongly Acused Fugitive (+1)😂

    Congrats! ^^

I love that word ‘panties’ every time I hear it it reminds me of the scene on She was pretty it and makes me laugh out loud.
I am tracking my progress because I really have no clue how it works. I look at my visible numbers and think I am going to take ages to get to the next level based on the thousands of likes and comments the veteran beanies have and then I notice I have got an upgrade at a different figure. I assume there are multiple ways to get the ‘right’ number of points so the numbers will vary. There must be a number of undocumented factors so the visuals of likes and comments are almost red herrings.

      2
      1

I think it’s the comments. You have 500+ comments in only two months. That’s a lot. And maybe also the followers

        1
        1

@enriquequierecagar So I looked up two random beanies:
Jance has already highlighted having more than me: 679 comments and 2,104 likes and is a Eunuch in drag, and Jerrykuvira, a dopplenger like me has 536 comments and 1,225 likes both of which are lower than Jance and as Jerry does not follow anyone and has 3 followers it can’t be the followers that gave them the edge.

This lack of an obvious pattern is what I noticed by looking at beanies at all the levels hence my theory that different things lead to the necessary gateway. So mine might be frequency of posting in short time frame and someone else it’s length of time on the site every year like monopoly they gain a loyalty points which I won’t have access to until I have reached a specified timeframe.

Maybe its like the Hitchikers guide to the universe

          1
          8

Yeah, I think the time and frequency have something to do with it.

Btw, if you keep this pace, maybe we’ll find out all the benie levels. Some say their infinite, I wanna know if that’s true!

Sicarius has done lots of research into this and I think I am probably at the last ‘easier’ to climb to quickly level. She achieved Loanshark with a heart of gold in 7 months which seems to be a massive achievement. I think the amount of work needed to achieve that level and the ones beyond it in that kind of time frame is unsustainable. Let’s see how it goes and if there are unknown levels to be discovered.☺️

            1
            0

There’s a finite number of levels. I had a list and also if you look at @dbstaff, then that handle has the highest level I’m pretty sure, and I check it every so often for new levels. @pikalanapikake (who I’m afraid is no longer with us since the pandemic) posted daily on her wall and also engaged a lot of beanies on comments on the various recaps as well and she was one of the highest. @sicarius is very high as well.

Here are the levels that we figured out so far…and DB staff isn’t at the highest but close. https://www.dramabeans.com/members/anothernicole/activity/789007/

Thanks Ally, please tell me the beanie no longer with us left due to stress not death 😢.

The link from her was showing blurry pictures of the levels on my iPad but hopefully they are clear on my computer but I have screen shots of the post Sicarius wrote about the levels and read the post by the beanie who is into numbers and had a theory about why Errand boy was the hardest to get through. This sort of thing really fascinates me and I am so grateful that others have done the work or looking in to it so I with my limited skills don’t have to but have the yellow Rick road clearly in front of me. Having said that I would have loved to have read the posts where they showed the different levels as the choosing of the names/tropes and the dramas associated with them was pure genius.

I checked out DB staff and as you said they are a few levels away from the top but prove the point comments and likes are not the only ways to climb as they have 3 comments and 53 likes but will have gained from the multiple posts and behind the scene work.

@ally-le sorry, I forgot that as I had to reply to myself you wouldn’t get the notification for my replies to you so please read above answer too.

You are up there with the privileged few who have achieved the high rankings which I also think proves my theory re loyalty points in recognition of those who have put in the years and contributed for the good of the Beanie community. 👏 👏

Ahhhhhh my brain is fried from a long day
Incoherent ramble of a comment incoming

All levels are listed in the Beanie Glossary I made.
            https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SsqpfZ2762NF6MDwHQRHj4s2yQhaiOQkaTpn26Ty78o/edit?usp=drivesdk
You can scroll right down to the highest level we know about- this glossary was made with the help of another nicole and the way back machine, which is the post Ally shared. DB used to have an archive list of these on the site but deleted it.
We therefore do not know if there are any levels AFTER teh highest listed here.
I am highest levelled Beanie (not minion) currently. Then Pakalanapikake.
Db-Staff is the highest of any account because posting actual ARTICLES somehow contributes more to levelling up- and Db-Staff has the most articles. (See also, Lord Cobols reply theory.)
After Loan Shark it gets even HARDER to level up, from half a year being regular to even over a year, even for me (although my rate of posting dropped significantly after about my 2 year anniversary on the new site so that’s also a factor).
Other beanies levelled up faster than me in some of the levels before Loan Shark also.
Paka even did regularly after Loan Shark.
Ally may even be the 3rd highest ranked non minion beanie actually I forget hahaa

      Hi
Thank you. Are you one of the people who read and rarely feel moved to comment? I can’t help myself!

      1

Lol, I read and I always want to comment but too lazy to log in. I’m taking inspiration from you and trying to do better!
Also, I rarely follow along currently airing dramas so by the time I get to it, that boat has usually sailed off into the sunset. And also, as my nickname suggests, I prefer happy endings so I’m always cautious about live watching. The one time I broke that rule was for 2521 (Nam Joo Hyuk!) and look where that got me.. 🙁

        1
        2

Oh no of all the shows to watch live. 😒 I was a binge watcher until I joined dramabeans now I tolerate the waiting just so I can get into the conversation each week.
Have you seen 20th century boy and girl as I am watching that now and it’s an old fashioned rom com with subtle tropes weaves in I have a few episodes left but it’s been such a lovely watch so far and was recommended as a nice one to watch.
Are you going to watch Shooting Stars? Business proposal? Love Play, All? They are all nice endings just got the more pronounced melodrama or angst mixed in the middle part.

          1
          7

Ikr? Anywho, I loved the show up till episode 15 and then developed rage over episode 16. The comment section for this drama recap was on fire at the time and I had so much to say but too upset to trust myself to say anything. Lol.

Thank you for the recommendations! I’ve watched Business Proposal and I liked it. It’s a simple, easy watch. I’ve not watched 20th century boy and girl, Shooting Stars or Love All, Play. I will check it out soon. I’m currently meandering through Yumi’s Cells 1 but it’s not keeping me engaged so I may look for something else soon. Let’s see. Oh, I’m live watching Alchemy of Souls but I’m not sure if I’m going to stick to it till the end.

Hopefully we’ll “meet” in one drama one day and we can have a lively discussion over it 🙂

2521 ending had the whole Internet on fire one of the Kdrama instagram accounts I follow Deema loves drama did a collaboration with a Korean American family therapist to help her process her upset.

Why can’t we get an edit function? I know, I know…Beanies have been asking for this since forever 🙂

I just wanted to add that I hope Deema loves drama is fine now 🙂 The drama broke so many hearts that day. I actually have some thoughts on 2521 ending vs My Liberation Notes ending. Will put it on my wall once I get the time and organize it.

Ok that sounds like it will be an interesting read and I look forward to reading it. I didn’t watch Our blues or My liberation notes I started both but they were too heavy so I dropped after episode two and just read the recaps so I could see whether to watch after airing. With my day job already being heavy my entertainment needs to light and fluffy or intriguing. I am enjoying Why her for the intrigue which is unusual as it has quite a few thriller elements which I have to fast forward through when possible but the frequent unexpected use of the shock and awe of the body falling drives me mad as there is no way to avoid it. I am dropping Jinxed at first because the balance of rom com and the other genres is not working for me.

Deem loves drama has got over the ending in that she occasionally references it but was able to rejoice and post the unboxing of the physical OST. I will download a few songs from some dramas but have not liked one enough to download the whole playlist and wouldn’t order a physical copy. The only one that came close was I will go to you when the weather is fine which had a lot of instrumentals and is great for background music when de stressing or focus is called for. It had a real small town focus and the music captured the feel perfectly and as she was a classical musician the music reflected that too.

Yes the missing editing option! When I saw the edit option available on the fan wall page I was so excited but it was short lived when I realised it doesn’t work. Copy and then deleting a post to paste and rewrite minus the errors and then repost is very clumsy. The deleted posts on the screen made me think that they had been deleted by the staff for inappropriate content!

Please help. Why can’t I make longer post on my fan wall? What am I missing…geez.. 🙁
Anyway, I watched both Our Blues and My Liberation Notes. It was heavy at the beginning and I did drop both of it at first due to the gloomy depressive vibes I was getting. But I went back to both out of sheer boredom and enjoyed both. My Liberation Notes was admittedly heavy but Our Blues surprisingly turned out giving me Prison Playbook feels. Warm, heartfelt and funny.

            Hi
I access Dramabeans on my iPad and write the post in notes and then cut and paste on my fan wall. If you need to edit you have to cut and got back to wherever you originally composed it as I have learnt it immediately goes back to 200 character limit as soon as you physically type directly on the fan wall. The other weird anomaly is sometimes the pictures will disappear and a black small square is displayed instead if I click on that square many picture re appears but disappears again. This only happens with some posts.

The bit I have not been able to sort out is writing and pasting pictures within the writing. I did ask one Beanie about it on their fan wall but they did not respond to my request.

Thanks for sharing the feedback. Sounds like Our Blues is the one I will go for. My understanding is there were two or three episodes centred around a storyline which stands alone so could be watched without sitting through the whole season. I want to watch the episodes with a disability theme I am not sure if this is also the one that tackles mental health. I also wanted to see the child actor as that was mentioned as a particularly good story too.

            0

Goodness! Let me try. And thank you!

Re Our Blues – all the stories are kind of woven together but yes, they do focus a few episodes each on certain characters. And yes, the one about disability is about mental health. Beautiful story. So is the one about the child. I’m not sure about other sites but if you watch this on Netflix, each episode has the character names as the title so you can tell who they are focusing on. I believe the one on mental health is Young Ok and Young Hui.

Mother of mine
I have been looking for this drama but couldn’t remember the name. Dramabeans helped me out again when I found the main actresses profile. So pleased as I had fond memories of this multi episode drama with all relationship issues covered the mother in law sampling the joys of retirement so not wanting to share in the childcare support, parenting struggles when both parents are working, and family dynamics when looking after someone else’s child. Dating and marriage shown across the age range.

I think I will miss only the OST. I watched it as it is a homework. The story -if there is really a one – is not full. They didn’t show how the CEO could be so mean with the artists. The director of the forcestar is unrealistic at all.

How come this was homework? What are you studying? When I was studying English literature they warned us that we would not be able to read trash for pleasure any more so I am wondering if your studies mean you need to watch programmes with more substance.

What genre do you prefer to watch? What are you watching for now?

^-^. I what I mean is I didn’t fully enjoy the show as it could be much better than this but in the same time I couldn’t drop it. I like watching romance comedy drama. I’m watching 39 and I really like it.

I hope you enjoy I prefer binge watching its hard to do that and avoid the spoilers. I really took my time watching the last two episodes as I didn’t want it to end. I have no comedy now so hoping Jinx is good enough to keep watching.
