Beanie level: Noble idiot

I just finished OBS and I just have to get my love for Choi Woong out of my system a bit because he‘s climbed to the top of my all time favourite male leads in no time. I LOVE how he is calm and quiet but has a rich inner life. He wears his heart on his sleeve and is so (so so so) sincere and warm. His character (and all the other ones in this drama) doesn‘t fall neatly into any of the archetypes I‘ve come to expect from k-dramas. Just when I thought I knew him he’d surprised me with a new side of him. He‘s the most lovable oddball I had ever had the pleasure to watch and I‘d say about 70% of the credit goes to Choi Woo Shik who elevated his character by adding so much nuance to Woong’s mannerism. He managed to make him well-rounded and skillfully flesh him out. I‘m in love both with the character and the actor.
Anyway if anyone has any recommendation for a drama with a similarly adorable ML or a bittersweet romance like OBS hit me with your recommendations because I definitely need them to get over OBS right now. 😅

I just rewatched Signal for the first time and it‘s even better on the second watch. Is there any hope at all for a second season?? I mean Forest of Secrets managed to do it!

I still hope for one… I insist on interpreting the long wait as a sign that someone is taking their time to cook up a good script, instead of garbage sequels like Voice 2 & 3, Mystery-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named, etc, etc.

Indifferent, amnesiac Haru breaks my heart. 😭 I hope he recovers his memories fast.
Also why is Baek Kyung still so committed to the manhwa story even though he has become self-aware. We have seen how Dan Oh and Do Hwa managed to detach themselves from the story the more they became self-aware. Sure, they are still forced to do what the writer wants but in their Shadow-time they are standing above it because they see the whole picture (more or less; obviously Do Hwa still likes Jo Da but even then he is still annoyed with his character‘s behavior on stage). That‘s why I don‘t understand Baek Kyung‘s antagonizing altitude- especially towards Haru- even though he knows they are all in this together.
I missed Dan Oh‘s spunk this episode but I can‘t blame her. Haru‘s disappearance and reappearance as Baek Kyung’s lackey was so sad.

technically, no one has been able to break free from their character sketch..

Kyung is rebellious, so he will rebel..and is an angry, taciturn types

Danoh originally (not just this comic) was written to be a particular kind, and she displays those traits

baek doesn’t have a healthy set up in terms of family.. getting hit and not being able to talk back, having no one in the comic world.. mom is dead, the girl he thought liked him never liked him and will die..

    it is bad

My feel is that he’s become so used to lashing out on the stage, it’s kind of like second nature that he has to “unlearn” + maybe it’s more deep-rooted for him because of how much his own set-up makes him angry/upset?

Plus, unlike Danoh/Dohwa/pre-disappearance Haru, I don’t think Kyung has really committed to the idea of all the self-aware characters being in it together yet. Maybe it’s just culture shock or general suspicion on his part? I feel like Danoh, Haru and Dohwa had some kind of orientation/initiation—someone to talk them through what was happening/how everything worked. Kyung largely had to figure it out on his own, so maybe he still feels like an outsider?

Guys, where can I watch the preview of Extraordinary You with english subtitles?

    Viki has it subbed.

I don’t think there’s an eng sub out, but here’s what I caught:

Danoh: You’re saying that Haru disappeared because of me?
[Couldn’t catch the lines in between]
Danoh: Even though Haru isn’t here, the world just went back to normal.
Danoh: (crying) How could this happen?
Kyung: Whatever that jerk did, I can just do too, right?
Danoh: That’s something only Haru can do.
Kyung: Your only option is to stay by my side, the way you are right now.
Kyung: The person who can change your fate is me. He can’t change your fate.
Danoh: You know, I’m going to die.
    Danoh: Haru?
    Danoh: Haru came back.

SPOILER for Extraordinary You ahead:
Right from the beginning, I had this hunch that Baek Kyung was becoming self-aware. It was getting pretty clear this week with all the lingering looks after a stage would end. But I thought the moment he realizes what‘s going on and joins the groupof self-awares will be a step-forward. I never thought that he would keep it to himself and orchestrate Haru‘s disappearance.
My guess is, he was meeting with Fairy all this time and they both planned this thing together.
I‘m still hoping there‘s something we don’t know yet. Despite everything, I still want to see Baek Kyung redeemed so badly.

Oooooh! A theory that had not occurred to me! Dayum. I’m with you on Team Redemption though.

I like him going dark though. I think he would be a great antagonist for Dan-Oh: forced to love him on stage, desperately trying to bring him down in the shadows.

    4
    1

I guess he does make for a compelling villain if they decide to go this way, especially since he seems to care about Dan Oh for real. But I am too attached to the idea of a Haru-Kyung bromance and that Kyung turns out to be more complex than his stage-self.

      1
      1

Ooooooh, you think he likes her for real? I don’t. I think he’s manipulating the story to his advantage by trying to manipulate her. He knows that having her under his control means he gets some leverage and I think that’s why he’s acting like that. It would be really interesting if his feelings were genuine though, so I’m curious to see where the story goes.

Did Kyung orchestrate Haru’s disappearance? How did I miss that! 👀

Fairy is as unhelpful as a dried squid in giving information. *annoyed cat face* I don’t think he’d reveal anything to Baek Kyung. He’s letting him run around confused and wreaking havoc.

That’s only my guess for now. I think Haru pushing Kyung into the pool might have been the final straw and what ultimately triggered him to do whatever he did to make Haru disappear.
Lol you might be onto something there. But Fairy’s face looked too smug when Dan Oh told him Haru disappeared.

What the hell did you do, Kyung? I trusted you.

I just binged the all the episodes of Extraordinary you. You guys, I‘m HOOKED. My only regret is that I didn‘t wait till I could binge it after it‘s finished.
A couple of thoughts:
-I thought I might develop a SLS during the first two episodes but this week‘s episodes I made a 180 degrees turn, pretty much from their first scene together. 😍😍
-I don‘t trust Squid Fairy AT ALL. The look on his face when he saw Number 13/Haru and later on when he discovered his drawings made me uneasy. I feel like Haru might have been hiding from someone (the writer?) and living in the shadows all this time and him getting noticed by Fairy and classmates now will start creating trouble.
-How heartbreaking was that scene by the lake when Day was asking Dan Oh if she remember this place. I don‘t have the slightest idea what this says about their past (actually I have some guesses) but it already smells like heartbreak. 😭

What Haru asked Dan-oh….So it means that Haru has been self-aware longer right? Perhaps before the start of the manhwa, the two were in love, and suddenly they entered the setting of the manhwa.

    3
    2

I actually like this idea – that it was the other way around with who’s forgetting who. But I wonder why he acts like he doesn’t remember her in their encounters.

      2
      2

I think he may have been too shocked to know how to react.

        0
        0

Maybe he‘s not supposed to interact with her or doesn’t want make himself noticed since he‘s a nameless extra.

        1
        0

Yes I think he knows a lot more than he lets on. Remember he carries the manhwa in his backpack all the time and didn‘t even flinch when objects were floating around him in the Shadow.
This is my completely baseless theory but: What if they were the main couple of the manhwa in the past but the story got scratched by the writer and they got relegated to extras?

      1
      0

I feel like Fairy knows Haru.

When Haru asked if she remembered the place…. legit plot twist.. what if it was actually Dan Oh who hasn’t been remembering things and not the other way around. Omg. I actually like this idea!

Dan Oh introducing herself to Haru for n times reminds me so much for 50 first dates. aww.

    A few of my tried-and-trues:
1% of Anything (literally the least angsty show ever made)
    I Am Not A Robot
    You Are Beautiful
    Her Private Life
    Sungkyunkwan Scandal

    “I Am Not A Robot” ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
It has, like, 1—maaaaaaaaybe 2— episodes of angst, but the rest of it is pure fluff, and cuteness overload, and love, quirk, and Chae Soo Bin’s character spouting like a sailor 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😘😘😘😘😘😘😍😍😍😍😍😍 It’s THE drama that made me fall in love with Chae Soo Bin and made her into one of my ultimate girl crushes

I suggest the Chinese drama Go Go Squid. Very little drama in that and so much cute.

Another that’s super adorable is called Put Your Head on My Shoulder. A fluffy cohabitation cdrama with (so far as I’m still watching it) very little drama.

I just finished Forest of Secret yesterday (I love it so much!! 😍).
And of course the first thing I did was watch all their behind the scene stuff. Imagine my reaction when I stumbled upon this video as a hard-core Wise Prison Life and recent FoS fan.
Haerongie 😍😍
I love how the cast seems to get along so well off-screen.
Now are we getting a season 2 or what?

My drama watching has approved so much since I switched do binge watching again. I get to skip all the mediocre dramas and get straight to the A+ dramas. Prison Playbook, JBL, Ahjussi and now LOM 😍

There was a recent drama special (i think 4 episodes) that a lot of beanies here liked. I was keeping it for a weekend binge but I can‘t for the life of me find the screenshot with its name. Does anyone have an idea what I could be talking about? 😅

Is it possibly Rock Rock Rock about Kim Taewoon’s early life? No Minwoo plays Kim Taewoon

It’s probably You Drive Me Crazy. That just came out not to long ago.

    5
    2

No, but I have a few mini-dramas recommendations:
    – Naked Fireman (4 episodes): Thrills and Lee Jun Hyuk. (The title is misleading LOL).
-Splish Splash Love (2 episodes): very popular on DB. Time-travel at its best.
    – Page Turner (3 episodes): personal favourite. The joys and trials of playing music and um, growing up.
    – Last week I watched Love For A Thousand More (10 episodes of 15 minutes each). Cynic Joseon girl becomes a modern-day love counselor. Very fun.

You drive me crazy? 🙂 It’s rally a good and easy watch. Try it!

I was saving Just between Lovers for a good time. So I finally binged it the last few days (still at ep 12) but now I really feel bad for missing all the love it was getting on the fan wall back then. I tried to find the page numbers from back then but gave up quickly 😅

Same! Only a couple more episodes for me. On the one hand I wish I could’ve been there in the room when/where it happened, but at the same time, I don’t think I could’ve managed having to wait for new episodes… JBL kills my emotions in an instant.

They are bratty jerks but somehow I‘m already half in love this trio. Does anyone else think Se Joo has a thing for Ji Soo?

12
1

Oh he so does, that’s why I think we need to enjoy this trio while we can before their relationships combust. I feel like he’s going to end up doing something super bad once Kwon ShiHyun breaks Sooji’s heart because he seems to like her to that will do crazy/evil things for you level

2 episodes in but I already know whi I‘ll be rooting for for the rest of this drama 💛😄

So glad I’m not the only one. I love Se-joo too.

He is like the only rich brats who didn’t view his life as dramatically as others. And somehow, that makes me worried more that he’ll be the one who get hurt the most by the end.

    1

It‘s sooo weird I can‘t tell if the drama feels dated or just plain weird ^^ But at least you have no clue how it will continue because people don‘t act like we do 😀

      6
      0

Its pretty outlandish! And I couldn’t get into it. The only parts I liked are Joy and Woo Doo-hwan’s interaction towards the end of ep 4 where he kind of flails around and FAILS at seducing her so bad that its hilarious! I love awkward Doo-hwan! Her character keeps the drama grounded so far being and ordinary girl among a bunch of crazy people. Hopefully the next couple of episodes are good. I can’t decide yet if I like it enough to continue on or watch it live.
