This. I’m involved in a dog rescue that this is our mission. To but puppy mills out of business. Both my dogs are rescues from breeders.

We used to call these “beans of wisdom” and they used to be a regular feature on the “old Dramabeans” before the revamp in 2017. @lordcobol had several featured. Who else was there?

Kiss Sixth Sense…
How do I put it? The story is idol-ish. Posters, opening song and overall production give low-budget web drama feeling but actors are decidedly not idols or web-drama-yee.
They are pulling all their weight and it shows. What this show is trying to do – trying to put gold leaves on cotton candy? It’s confusing AF.

There was a series back in the 70’s called “The Sixth Sense” which from memory was very good and forward thinking in its day. Quite the thriller.

Again, my life has 9.5 rating. My liberation notes has 7.5 and Our Blues 7.9. Each drama has aired only 2 episodes. Green mother\’s club had 7.0 before it started airing.
@db-staff, please close rating function for a drama till half number of episodes are aired, otherwise rating on DB will not represent genuine measure for quality of drama.

Random question:
Can person with amnesia drive? (Brought on by Noh-manners driving a sports car in crazy love)

0
7

    which episode are you at?

    0
    1

Might depend on how severe the amnesia is. Say if they’d been driving 10+ yrs and their memories appear only to impact the last 5 then they probably remember all the times they drove before that.

    1
    0

So I googled this to see what the internet said 😄and the answer was probably you CAN but whether you should is a different question…but I was amused to see the google suggested search was “how to get amnesia on purpose”

    2
    1

      So, how? 🤣🤣🤣

      2

Apparently, people who did it couldn’t remember. 🤣🤣🤣 (Yes, I searched it. It might be quite handy to know such things.)

there were some people very seriously saying that you should avoid giving your self a head injury because you may get worse brain damage than you want ( it seems like this should go without saying 😅).

The official answer seems to be rather than actually giving yourself amnesia you should have therapy to lessen the impact of bad memories (https://www.healthline.com/health/how-to-forget-something)

Trash Drama adventures:
I have decided allow one trash drama at a time. The best thing of watching trash drama is you can watch the drama without getting invested in anything and thoroughly enjoy complete utter nonsense.
The drama I have chosen for this time is Love Featuring marriage and divorces S3. I did watch S1 and was disappointed. Did not watch S2 and now I have dwelled into S3 from EP5.
Does it matter that I am starting in midway? Absolutely not.
Here is quick recap, all couple are divorced. Saintly mistress#3 is dead. Mistress#1 is dumped by her fiancé for wife#2 because he fell in love with her screams in the dermatology clinic.
Well, I have heard love at first sight but love at first scream at dermatology clinic? That is first… Is writer on something or she is genius in inventing most ridiculous scenarios?
Now the fiancé has proposed wife#2 after meeting her third time or is it second? Does hearing screams count as a second meeting? Anyways, he is leaving for one month on a business trip and he wants to spend some time with her and her daughter. He invites her to amusement park, just to watch them. Is it creepy? I have no idea and cherry on top he decides to accompany them in a pirate costume. Why? I have no idea but I enjoyed that utterly nonsense garbage anyway.

2
2

who is mistress#1 and #2? lol
I hope they didnt make 3rd couple reunite after #3 dead using there is a baby that need a mom plot

    1
    1

Mistress#1 is the one who cheated with writer’s husband (the musical actress) and Mistress#2 is one with the doctor with mother issues. About reuniting couple, well it depends on writer….

Bulgasal: Immortal Soul
After watching 2 episodes, I don’t think I will continue watching this.
I didn’t get the show’s logic and the concept of Karma is weird. I found it quite boring and I really don’t care about the characters.

I am trying to understand why he was targeted in the first place. I hope they make it clear

    1
    2

It seems like for eternity they have been following each other. Before the point at which we started, he was Bulgasal and she was the cursed victim.
I feel like it will end up being a chicken and egg situation .

      2
      1

It seems like that. I need to keep a track of who has the human soul, but I’m guessing it won’t be hard to work out. I’m wondering too, firstly if the twins have shared the soul; secondly, if the “other” person killed her, then surely that means he now has her soul; and thirdly, then the ML’s pursuit of the FL means he wants his soul back from someone who is innocent of the previous act of stealing; and fourthly, what happens when the men meet as soul sharers? Or am I overthinking this?

I am curious about that but not enough to seat through 14 more hours of blood and boredom.

Drama beanies loved but you didn’t.
Move to Heaven and Navillera

Both dramas were designed to make audiences feel in a certain way. It felt like I was being emotionally manipulated.

I dropped MTH after ep1, and ff-watched Navillera out of sheer FOMO (but didn’t enjoy it one bit). I still scratch my head about what people saw in those shows. I didn’t find them manipulative. I just had zero emotional connect with both shows.

Day 9 – The oldie (not 2021) you loved the most.
I am cheating, since it’s not a drama. The oldie I loved most was, My Neighbour Totoro. I am not sure why I did not watch this earlier. I can’t say anything new about this movie that hasn’t been said earlier.
It’s truly wonderful piece of art.

Day 4 – That mess you watched and you still wonder why.
Love ft. boredom and torture: This drama had exactly one watchable scene and rest of it was horrible, horrible mess. The silver lining was, I learned my lesson and did not tune in for season two.
Sisyphus: What this was even about?
Mine : Rich people being horrible to each other and fracturing eardrum of audiences.
Doom : This show was like cotton candy. It looked pretty and fluffy but it did not have any substance and I felt horrible after watching it.
Monthly home Magazine: Pain inducing double dose of noble idiocy with lots of jerk male lead on the side.

Day 1: FL you will never forget
I wouldn’t say it as FL I will never forget, instead I would say it as FL that stood out for me this year.
There are two FLs (I could not choose only one) that I loved- Hong Ji-ah and Dam-yi/Lee Hwi played by Jang Na-ra and Park Eun-bin to the perfection. You cannot imagine anybody else in those roles. It’s their show and they own it.

After dropping three sageuks in a row (Bossam, Red sky and River moon) , I am live watching three . One for female lead, one for male lead and one – I have no idea why..mysteries of K-drama land.

8

Isn’t that the truth ~ for no good reason we watch genres in K-dramas that we otherwise wouldn’t give a second glance. ‘Tis indeed the mysterious charm of any given K-drama.

Excessively drinking and forcing others to drink is definitely not cool. I was looking forward to this show but I didn’t even watch the second part.

I wanted to watch but this description will keep me away from the drama.
I don’t mind social drinking but the way over drinking is portrayed in dramas always makes me feel bad. So no, not watching.

Police University episode 1 and 2#:
My first impression – this is quite bland. We have yet another hot-headed cop who goes by guts and few cardboard cutouts for new recruits.
I know these are only first two episodes but I am not willing to find out whether the show will improve.

i watched ep 1.. and it was soooo boring..

nothing stands out.. not acting, not script.. nothing
jokes are not funny, it doesn’t reel me in an audience..

They could have just approved another series of Team Bulldog.

That was a great, tight series that was left open for another run.

But then again, the cast was veterans and we just can’t have that. 😐

I just watched episode 1 and yeah, “bland” is a good description.

Devil judge 5 and 6#
The drama is trying to raise some important questions such use of justice or law to appease and distract the public, state sanctioned cruelty but it continues to be over the top and sometime a bit cringy.
I found few things that are inconsistent and some that are bit problematic.
• an American prison with over-the-top portrayal of American criminals. K-dramas are generally not good at portraying other cultures or people from countries and this drama continues that tradition. It is supposed to be dystopian but I had hard time buying this American prison as show never established what was going in the world outside Korea.
• Yoon Soo-Hyun – Her life and her every action revolves around Ga-On. She does not have her own goals or any other motivations for doing what she does. She is just an accessary.
• Sun-ah kissing Yo-han while he was handcuffed. That’s an assault. I had hard time buying that as show has previously established that Sun-ah is someone who does not tolerate such behaviour.
• Sudden revelation that Elijah is a genius and attends Stanford. She can do what show requires her do. We never saw her studying or attending class. What we got exposition from housekeeper.

3
7

I agree with all of your points. I was cringing at the depiction of the American inmates. As you said, Korean dramas do not have an excellent track record when it comes to depictions of Americans or other cultures. The recording of the American inmates was played for laughs but I didn’t find it amusing. Sun-ah forcefully kissing Yo-han bothered me and contradicts her previous reactions to women being sexually harassed/assaulted. My issues with Soo-hyun stem from her overall recklessness.

    1
    1

Is it only Koreans? Just about everyone is guilty when it comes to depicting countries that are not immediate neighborhood.

Recently, I have checked out the Shadow and Bones and the main characters’ names are Alina Starkov and Alexandra Morozova. You would think that such an expensive Netflix production will at least check how Slavic names are written but nah~

      1

Hi @nerdy. You are correct, there are other entertainment industries that are guilty of the same.

        0
        0

    1. American prison, didn’t feel it was about american culture or anything, but that the drama was trying to drive home the point that this would be torture for the accused and in ways befitting punishment keeping up with the sentiments of the public
    2. Sun ah doesn’t care about abuse. The only reason she reacted last time was because everyone on the table could see and sense that old man was harassing the maid.. and that man , supposedly owner of foundation, needs to maintain some amount of dignity.. CKH is already suspecting he is not a true head

    3. YSH is such a meh character

    4. Elijah .. lol .. i thought purpose of the “elijah hall” was that donation can get you into ivy league (which is very very true)

    1
    2

I agree about Elijah. The girl is smart but her family’s money helped her get in the ivy of her choice so I dont doubt she can get into Stanford if that is what YoHan wants.

About the american prison, i agree it was to drive home the point that it will not be all roses for the rich actor.

I really dont like SH as a character. My main issue with her is that her life should not revolve around a guy. We get she loves him but Show please. Give her other motivation with her life other than getting GaOn to reciprocate her feelings.

SunAh and YoHan are both twisted and there is more to their story. I dont think SunAh has any conscience at all and only has her greed and power as motivation. That housekeeper is looking suspicious as well. Her narrative of what happened is flawed so she may have her own agenda.

      3
      1

I didn’t think the American prison scene was played for laughs either. Yo-han found a way around the trap Sun-ah set but that doesn’t mean the punishment was compassionate, as Yo-han claimed. As with the other punishments, I think we were supposed to question ourselves, what we condone in the name of justice. We were supposed to be uncomfortable.
