Beanie level: Noble idiot

You guys! Someone actually put together a side by side comparison of webtoon vs series for WWWSK

OMO – leveled up to a Noble Idiot!

When I first saw Namgoong Min in Chief Kim he strongly reminded me of Jung Yong Hwa of CNBlue. YES I know Namgoong Min is a WAY better actor than JYH (sorry boo, you’re pretty and I like your music but your acting could use some help). I\’ve seen his stills from Falsify and there he looks completely different. But then the stills from Undatables/ Hnadsome Guy put me back in the same mindset as Chief Kim and I CAN’T SHAKE IT OFF. Rant over.

WARNING. The comments may or may not contain spoilers for WWWSK, proceed with caution.

    MAN.

I usually roll my eyes at nobal idiocy but I wanted to shake YJ for his denial to KMS. Just no. I wish the whole misunderstanding of the past cleared up and our OTP in WWWSK being all pretty and smoochy because they like the people they are today, not JUST because of the past. I want to FF the next two episodes and get to the ones where they clear their issues out. Also, I hope it’s the mom that straighten the hyung out. UGH he makes me want to smack him even though he’s so pretty.

To all the beanies more aware and educated than I,

I would like to request a sort of a compilation of nicknames frequently used for our drama heroes. The only ones I’ve seen recently are this:

Park Hyung Sik: Puppy
Seo Kang Joon: Cinnamon Roll

Who else?

8
9

But I think EP 10 might be our turning point? I\’m drawing parallels here between She Was Pretty and WWWSK – too much? ya know mistaken identities and all? only PSJ is on the receiving end of it this time around. Am I overthinking this? I think I’m too into the kdrama world in and need to go out and do something in RL, lol

I’m already fuming about the Mi-so’s (mis)understanding of identity of oppa in episode 6 and I haven’t even watched it. UGH heartache. I can’t

2

ya know – most romcoms have some sort of angst before it becomes all smoochy and pretty again, but can we please not have angst for WWWSK, please?

I think I made a mistake y’all. As I mentioned in my previous post, I started reading the “what’s wrong with secretary Kim” web toon in hopes to find out the fate of our OTP. The only problem is that the web toon isn’t completely translated in English yet. It’s a work in progress and a new installation comes out every week. So now, not only am I waiting for the next episode in the show, I’m also waiting for the next installment in the web toon. I started reading the web toon to figure out the story and instead got myself another thing I must wait for every week. #epicfail

😂 Oh dear!!! I was about to go hunting for the webtoon!!!! Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks to @cherryinbloom I started reading the “what’s wrong with secretary Kim” web-toon” and I AM HOOKED. The show is pretty true to the web-toon so far. It makes me happy and worries me. It makes me happy because now I can read the web-toon and know what’s in store for our couple – I LOVE knowing how things will turn out instead of biting my nails (unless it’s a mystery thriller, I love the guessing game for those). It worries me because the web-toon only has 30 installments – the first 6 installments were what we saw in the first episode. By that calculation, I’m only getting 5 episode worth of stuff out of this! NOOOOOOOOO I want to know about it all now!
I was never a live watcher before for this reason precisely. I hate the waiting game! I started live watching with You Who Forgot Poetry and loved it. Mainly, I loved the discussion and predictions with the beanies. Let’s see how this show turns out. I’m loving it so far!

Dear captain @raonah, I\’m not abandoning ship. I\’m not. It\’s just that I\’m losing interest. As much as I would have liked Bo Young with Min Ho, I was really just rooting for her happiness. But the whole thing just seems so awkward and forced. I don\’t see the plot going anywhere and I\’m just losing interest. I\’ll stay on the ship until the end, but I\’ll be down in the kitchens, stuffing my face with giant kimbap.

As much as I’m rooting for our OTP (#wafflesovercottoncandy) I think I’m rooting more for Nam Woo. I swear if he doesn’t get some kind of closure in life by the end of Ep – 16 toddler tantrums will be forthcoming.

I was gone for 5 days and now it feels like I’m behind on life! Mr. Spicykimchi took us on a surprise vacay so we were pretty much disconnected from the rest of the world in the sense of daily interactions. Now to catch up on all the reviews and comments. Who needs to do real work anyways?

You guys! I don\’t think either ships are out of danger and into safe sailing weather for APAD! MinhoYoung ship – Let\’s enjoy the sunny weather for now but also keep an eye out for any brewing storms as these are uncharted watersturb! Ye Liners – for all we know this is just a temporary turbulence. WE STILL HAVE 6 MORE EPISODES TO GO!

11

That is why I think I made the right choice in returning to the safe Island of Neutrality. One week out at sea was too exhausting lol.

As much as I am shipping MinhoYoung, I wanted to smack him upside the head for these 2 episodes. You are NOT entitled to everything you wish for in life. It is NOT ok to sabotage the other person because of your jealousy. I think I need to take you shopping for your big boy pants. I am hoping writernim is showing all his bad traits that they hope (MUST) to correct in the future.
Ye Liners: I really do understand why you’d want someone as nice as Dr. Ye for our beloved BoYoung but I just can’t see it. I think it was somewhere during episode 3 where I noticed Dr. Ye was talking with his teeth clenched shut – maybe this was a character trait, but no I can’t unsee it. To me, he just seems more robotic because of this.
I get it that whoever you chose as your significant other in your life must respect you and treat you as you properly. Therefore, MinHo must redeem himself before he is worthy of BoYoung. However, I do not agree with the fact that just because a person treats you well, you should choose them as your partner. In this entire series, Dr. Ye was the first person who treated BoYoung with the proper respect she deserved and that gets him brownie points, but that’s about all it gets him, in my opinion.

Hear, hear! Well said! And thankfully, it looks like Minho’s acting a lot nicer (if a bit more depressed) and more respectfully.

This ep he, at last, got himself together and in the preview he seem that he was not sabotaging her, so this is an step forward.
I need them bonding more now and being the great best friends that I know that they can be!!! Give it to me, Show (And a relationship upgrade, pretty please with sugar on top :D)

Thank you @kimbapnoona and @raonah for getting me started and hooked on this drama!

I went into this drama already in favor of the Ye Liner because of @kimbapnoona and @greenfields musings. I agreed with everything they said about attraction of a mature man. I just don’t have time or patience for man-child characters any more. I mean, seriously, you’re all adults – act like one! That being said, let’s see how the series pans out. I have watched only three episodes so far and I like it!

BoYoung’s character is so relatable to my past self, it’s not even funny. It makes me want to hug her and shake her at the same time. I felt for her when her old school mates showed up at her workplace and one of them turned out to be her old crush with whom she still had unresolved issues. I mean, can you even imagine magnitude of “you-gotta-be-kidding-me” factor? My poor girl. I like that she’s good at her job. Actually, I love that she’s good at her job and that she’s getting acknowledged for it by her patients and her management. I hate it when she’s discriminated against, but I like it that her coworkers and higher ups acknowledge that it’s not fair. As far as her relationship with MinHo is concerned, I think she has already moved on from her crush on him. She just hadn’t learned to face him and actually just say out loud what happened and move on from that incident, like “OK FINE, This happened. It’s over. Move on”

MinHo – MAN CHILD. MANCHILD. Man Child. MAN CHILD. I can’t say it any other way. This one needs to grow up. How did he even manage to end up at the hospital if he didn’t do any work in school? I get it that BoYoung did lot of his work while she was there, but she’s been gone for a while! There are times when I think he’s just pretending to be a man child so that no one sees through his facade but no, he’s a man child. He has moments of maturity that pop up here and there but man I wish he was more mature.

Dr. Ye – YA KNOW – I am not sure what I expected out of the first episode but I was surprised when I didn’t see Dr. Ye until the very end. I had expected to be introduced to all the main characters in the first half of the episode so that they can establish some kind of relationship that would be explored or set in motion in episode 2. I love Lee Joon Hyuk – he’s the bomb dot com BUT Dr. Ye kinda falls flat for me (AS OF EP 3 PEOPLE – My mind MAY change after I watch 4,5,6 – I’m a fickle person like that). Maybe I just haven’t seen enough of him or his interactions with Bo Young, but he just seems pretty meh and robotic.

So me, who started out with my little row boat in the direction of the Ye Liner is switching direction towards the MinhoYoung Ship. I don’t think it’s going to be a case of, “You were my first love, let me try to get back with you” I think it’s going to be a case of MinHo growing up and then the two of them falling for each other as the people they are now. Because neither MinHo nor Bo Young are the same people as they used to be back in school. Make room for me @raonah, I’m coming aboard!

Welcome to the MinHoYoung couple!!! A lot of people had that reaction to Min Ho, and is pretty understable, he didn’t make a good impression (I liked him from the start but maybe I was just biased because I’ve seen worse -and more infuriating- male leads… and wow, the fact that I’m so desensitized maybe be a problem; outside of that I was pretty sure that he was going to grow up so… yeah)
The next three episodes shows more of the relationships and I think that both have their own charm; the MinHoYoung is the one that appeals to me more through

So happy you like the show and we will be able to fangirl it together!

The Ye Liner welcomes you with open arms (which are attached to those broad shoulders) once you finish episode 4.
Yep, I envy you. You get to watch episode 4 for the first time soon.

    3

Can I second this? Yup, I second this. @spicykimchi – it gets better and better aboard the Ye Liner. And I bet the episode 4 commented the deal for many on the fence.

I was so sad reading the first half of your post thinking that you would be on the Ye Liner but then I got to the end…. Welcome aboard the MinHoYoung @spicykimchi 🎉🎉🎉🎉🛳
I think that eps 4, 5, and 6 will only confirm your decision as MinHo already shows signs of growth and maturity in those episodes 😊

Any beanies that may be aware of news or more facts about Asifa (I\’m making a big assumption here by tagging you @greenfields and @kdramaswimmer ) – Can you please educate me on the facts and the background? I only know what I\’ve read on online news outlets. Also, why is it that when her family tried to bury her in their village, Hindu activists threatened them until they had to take her to a different village for a burial? Seriously, after everything the child and her family has been through, they had to go an do that? < – All of this information was acquired from online news source so please feel free to set my record straight here if I\'m wrong.

What the news is reporting is that the gang rape and murder of this little child was an act of religious hatred. Since the BJP came into power, communal violence against minorities and forced conversions are on the rise. Asifa belonged to a tribal community – Gujjar and Bakarwal – and she was a Muslim.

More specifically, she belonged to a community of nomadic shepards who leased land from Hindu landowners to allow their sheep to gaze. As you can well imagine, the difference in power between Hindu landowners and Muslim shepards is vast. Moreover, Asifa’s community was in Jammu – a BJP stronghold.

From what I’ve been reading, there has been some sort of campaign against the nomadic Muslim tribes – an attempt to drive them out. And this little girl became a pawn in the region’s politics of hate.

Do you know there are organisastions protesting against the investigation? An organisation called HEM has demanded the chargesheet be withdrawn and the case be handed over to the CBI (which makes the CBI seem very suspicious). The victim’s lawyer was not allowed to appear in Court by some local lawyers who got in the way (and also tried to prevent the police from filing the chargesheet), so much so that the Supreme Court in Delhi has taken cognisance. I even read that some women held a fast on the streets in protest against the investigation.

This is a case of politics of hate. And I’m incredibly sad to call myself an Indian today.

    9
    5

And all people will care about is the damn IPL going on right now. I’ll be honest and say that I haven’t been proud to call myself Indian for a while now.
Well before BJP came into power all I’ve been seeing is polarization between hindu majority and all the minorities. There’s hate spewing between the communities and those damn politicians are taking full advantage of it. And congress is as dumb and corrupted as ever. Who exactly are the people supposed to vote for? It’s like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. T_T

      3
      3

You’re rigth about that – it how the BJP came into power. The BJP exploited the Hindu’s majority’s unhappiness at the “appeasement of the minorities” being carried out by the Congress. In addition to all those lovely (*sarcasm*) scams. Who DO we vote for? :/

        This.
It’s disgusting how IPL is still the front page news when all this is going on.
And I have been feeling that about being an Indian lately- so much so that I wanted to run away from the country. BJP in power started what I consider the beginning of the end of what we called India till now. Everything is changing. Saffronisation in the name of progress. And yes, the sad truth is that we have no alternative!

P.S. Didn’t know you were an Indian.

I looked up the incident after you tagged me.
This child was unfortunate pawn of that rotten political culture.
But the most terrible gut wrenching part is how many such incidents have happened in our country for a long time now (politics or not)
This country needs to be purged. I have no other hope.

      3
      1

That’s true. Such incidents are common around the world.
What makes me exceptionally unhappy here – if that is even possible – is as @egads rightly points out, how her body continues to be used after her death.

This is being called the “second Nirbhaya”. Which is just twisted – it shows you just how little has changed since 2012.

        3

Literally nothing has changed since then, if anything, the situation is worsening. The system is rotting down to the core.

Yeah this is pretty much all I know too. I feel a sense of disgust at all that is going on in our country. And from what I have seen it seems that all political parties have banded together! 2 big rape cases (one this and on in UP) and countless others, all the religious hate being spewed about and then the CJI himself what he is doing. I had not been able to keep up with the news all this while and I opened up yesterday’s newspaper today to find that hell had broken lose in the “outside world” while I was worrying about being given too much work :/

      4
      2

LOL – I had stuff to say about the earlier sentences – because you are so right – but I’m just going to comment on this, “I had not been able to keep up with the news all this while and I opened up yesterday’s newspaper today to find that hell had broken lose in the “outside world” while I was worrying about being given too much work.”

This is me as well. :/
Also, that CJI business? *sighs* What a time to become a lawyer. What a profession.

Thank you for the information. This is so incredibly sad and infuriating. First off, I cannot even begin to understand the mindset of the monsters that did this heinous act of crime to anyone much less a child. What has to go through your mind to make it seem like a justifiable action? Second, is there no humanity left? I really would like to know if the religious divide is because actual communities not getting along or if it is because politicians and extremists making issues and invoking anger just to make issues out of nothing. excuse my french but this is F***ing B******t

      1
      1

I agree. How that incident played out is just unbelievable. About the communities not getting along – I suppose you could say the faultlines were always there, certain vested interests took advantage of it/started fanning it?
