Happy New Year, Dramabeans Community. I hope everyone is healthy and well. I feel much better now. So much has happened the past year and I finally decided to consult a psychiatrist to help myself.

I went to a counselor first and he complimented me for knowing that I needed one. Postpartum depression plus the death of a loved one was too much for me. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough so he referred me to a psychiatrist. Right now, I was told to watch more “fun” dramas. I’m slowly recovering now thanks to Run On, which makes me happy, and I’m enjoying Mr. Queen too.

Kdramas carried me through a very challenging time too, it’s only entertainment, but a fun drama brings a lot of comfort 💚
Both my sisters struggled with ppdepression, it can be a very challenging time. You did well in looking for help (*big hug).

Kudos to you for helping yourself 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
That’s just great. My therapist and psychiatrist tell me all the time that I need to watch less news 😮 which is super true. Have you watched the kdrama oldie romcoms? There’s a lot of great ones. *Hugs* to you, I’m loving Mr Queen as well.

Got a call that my best friend passed away this morning due to COVID complications and that she will be immediately cremated. As someone who is asocial, I find it difficult to make friends and talk to people in real life. She’s my longest friend and this news breaks my heart. Life is so unfair to treat a person who worked hard her whole life to support her family and her studies. She was only 30 and was only starting to pay back debts. She has yet to fall madly in love and finally start living her life. I’m angry but I don’t know where to direct it. This government isn’t taking this pandemic seriously. Her family isn’t making any move to pay for her hospital bills. I feel useless because of what’s happening. When I didn’t have a single friend in College, she approached me with a smile. Her smiles always comforted us. No one in class dared to complain cause she never once did despite her multiple part-time jobs. She deserves the world but she no longer lives here. I want to see her and hug her and thank her for always being there for me and my family. I cannot risk going out cause I have a baby. I wish I had spent more time with her. I wish I had sent her messages every day. I wish I had been a better friend. I’m sorry for this post. I just don’t know where to say this. Hug your loved ones tighter, Beanies.

i am sorry to hear this. May, she rest in peace.

Agree, it is frustrating when one doesn’t have any agencies left that one can place hope in. Governments! 🙁

But, your post does scare me. I guess at some level, some complacency wrt to the pandemic creeped in as people start getting back to regular lives. But knowing world lost such a young life jolts me back into the reality…

i’m so sorry for your loss… keep her in your fondest memories, that’s how you can keep her close to you.

I’m so sorry. You’re right, she’s far too young to be gone. It might help to hold your own memorial service for her, maybe by writing down some of your fond memories.

I’m so sorry you have lost your friend. This virus and the incompetency of those in charge and the complacency of many around us makes these losses so much more painful.

Your friend sounds like she was lovely. Maybe, to help you formally celebrate what she meant to you, you could write a letter to her family and share some of your memories of her. While it is certainly no substitute for having her in your life, it might be a gift that could be a bright spot for her family, and also allow you an outlet of sorts.

Give your baby a hug, and take care of you.

**hugs** sorry to hear about your loss. Talking about it and writing a letter may help you grieve better. Its natural to be angry that things are happening beyond our control. Also hard to accept that the govt that is supposed to protect its people has failed. We are in unprecendented times and my heart goes out to you and her family.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I know your friend only through your stories but I was sure that she’s an amazing person. This isn’t what I wanted to read about her, I wanted her to be happy and live her own life. May she Rest in Peace. I honestly don’t know what to say, I was very hopeful and optimistic for her, this has shaken me. If you have any unsaid words, pray for her, write for her, she’ll hear.

    My condolences on your loss.

We always think of what we could have done better in situations like these, but I’m sure your friend wouldn’t want you to have anything other than fond memories of your precious times together. I pray you find peace and comfort during this difficult time.

I’m so sorry for your loss. This news breaks my heart though I don’t know you nor her personally; I’m sure she is a beautiful person.

Some day the world is a garden and the most beautiful flowers are often picked first. In my religion, we believe that when we do some good deeds we can send the loving and positive energy to people who have left us. When I do something good I often think of those who has gone before me and the ones I’m thankful for. I hope you find some comfort during this difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss. I really enjoyed the stories about her and the updates. I was truly shocked when I read this. I Iost many people in their late 20s when I was in my twenties and it impacted me greatly. Hugs to you. This is such a hard time and with a young child even in good times it can be so exhausting. Be as kind to yourself as you can. I am sure that your friend felt your love and friendship.

When it rains, it pours. My candy friend tested positive for covid and she\’s currently in the hospital. We can\’t visit her nor contact her as often. She rarely went out and I last saw her on September 4th. Since then, she has been working from home. They did contact tracing and found out that the only \”outside\” contact she had was with food delivery guys. When I called her, she was crying, asking me why bad things kept on happening to her when she does her best to be good. My heart hurts for her and I wish I could console her but I know I can\’t. This is reality and \”in dramas the heroine hits rock bottom first before the happy ending\” doesn\’t really help. 😭😭😭

This is scary.Does it mean she got it from deliveries?.😣 Hope your friend gets well soon.

We’re not really sure. She hasn’t been outside recently so they can’t pinooint the cause.

That’s surprising! I was listening to the radio recently and they said contracting there were no known cases of contracting coronavirus from surfaces or from food! Hmmm.

That’s what the doctor said too. One doctor said she might be asymptomatic before and got the virus again but this time it was more evident.

My Candy friend stayed over the weekend til this morning cause she needed a more stable internet connection for work. We stayed up last night talking and asked her about the men in her life. I told her that I posted about this on DB because her life is similar to a kdrama. She said it’s embarrassing and that those men are far from the men I like.

She updated me about the status of these men.
Elem classmate: We have nothing to talk about.
Ex BF: I blocked him everywhere.
College BFF: We’re okay.
Officemate: We often talk (on Zoom) because of work.

She said, I barely have enough time for myself plus I have to take care of my Mom and brother. I don’t have the time and energy for another person in my life.

I asked her if she’s happy, she said that she doesn’t even have time to think about that. The only time she can take a breather is when she’s with me.

    Wow…
    That is sad 😔

I hope someday she gets the chance and courage to prioritize herself and find her own happiness.

First I like how you changed your username 😅
But seriously, real life isn’t a fairytale. Your friend has a point. When there’s too much happening in life and you have to take care of others, sometimes your personal life takes a back seat. But that drains you and I am glad that she is able to have some time to herself with you. I have full faith and I’m totally optimistic for her that she will find the one. She seems like an amazing person(and so do you, an amazing friend) , I hope she lives for herself too now. Even if it’s just starting by sparing an hour to give it to one of her hobbies, she should give herself time otherwise she will be too drained. Tell her this isn’t embarrassing at all that you posted it here and I know if you don’t like the guys that like you it’s a no no for sure. Second male leads never have a chance in real life at all. Thanks for the update also I’m so glad the ex bf is blocked.

Thank you for replying. I’m not much of a social person so I only have a few friends. Talking about her here doesn’t feel like I’m spilling her life so it’s more comfortable.

Finished Was It Love? because of my love for Song Ji Hyo and Son Ho Jun BUT it was disappointing til the very end. They put too much plot on the finale which they could have done in the earlier eps.

Is it too much if I say that kdramas changed my life? How did dramas change your life, Beanies?

2
2

Yes they did in the form of life lessons. I like kdramas because I’m not only being entertained but I’m learning something too. This applies to j and c dramas as well, ever slice of life show has sth one can learn from.

    1
    0

I can say that Kdramas made some changes in my life. It has been my source of entertainment and stress reliever. There are stories that hits home for me and made me reflect in my own life. There are also stories that had taught me life lessons.

Reply 1988 inspired me to learn how to cook Korean dishes. The PPLs made me try Korean goods like coffees, ramen, kimchi and skincare products 😁

People: How old is your baby?
Me: 18 months.

I used to find it annoying when people answer me in months and I have to compute to find out the answer but when I became a Mom, I do it all the time too.

11
1

I suddenly understood why people do it when I had kids…there’s so much difference between a one year old who has just turned one and a one year old who is nearly two.

She’s a year and half so she still sleeps well. A sleeping baby allows me to watch dramas.

My youngest is a year old next week and she is not a great sleeper yet, sadly 😴😴 but I have watched a lot of dramas in the middle of the night when I had to get up for night feeds haha

I think that this may be interesting to some. Do you know in some dramas where our Female lead has one friend with a stable life? That friend is me. I never noticed it but I’m best friends with a real candy girl. We met in College and she had to drop out because of money problems. She started working multiple jobs until she continued studying and finally landed a regular job. She’s a true blue candy girl: cheerful, kind, pretty, has a family member (brother) which was full of loans, and 4 suitors.

Unfortunately, she isn’t a drama fan so most of the time, she doesn’t know what I’m talking about. But her suitors are really interesting. I actually know 2 of them. Suitor 1 is an Elem classmate who she met again after 19 years. He recently confessed that she’s his first love and wanted to see her often. Suitor 2 is her ex (and our junior who hurt her badly in College) and wanted to woo her back. Suitor 3 is our male best friend (my ship!) who confessed multiple times but failed. The last one is an officemate who I’ve yet to meet.

I am so invested in her lovelife and I’m excited who she’ll end up with. She’s such a great person and an amazing friend who looks after my children on our date nights. She’s also unbelievably kind that it’s frustrating at times.

I told her that I’d write a script based on her life but then again, it would sound like every other kdrama with a candy heroine.

24
10

Woah good wishes to her. I hope she finds the best man. I’m understanding your friend is an awesome person which most kdrama candy’s aren’t hah because they resign their fate to love and let the man handle their issues.

    4
    1

She is. I wish I could tell you more about her because she’s such a beautiful person (in and out).

      1
      0

Wow. Can you please keep us updated on who she chooses?

    3
    1

Well, that would be a drama I watch!
And as long as she’s happy with her life, I hope she chooses what’s better for her, whether it’s one of them or none.
Only… I wouldn’t go with the ex, no second chances are good.

    1
    1

Well that is a kdrama plot if I’ve ever seen one. Childhood connection, ex, friend-zoned friend, colleague. Wow. I did not know this was a thing in real life 😄.

    2
    1

I know. This made me giddy cause I kept on imagining scenarios for her.

      1

Make the script! Let your self be the heroine! Story about your adventure in assisting a candy girl finding her true love. I would love to watch/read this story. Pretty pleasee?? *sparkling-pleading-eyes*

I am a huge fan of Song Ji Hyo and I only recently started watching Was It Love. From a fan’s POV, she’s amazing in it BUT as an avid drama watcher, it’s disappointing. I still love her so I’m gonna keep watching.

I am looking for drama recommendations with single moms. I have watched When the Camellia blooms and Never Twice.

My country\’s lockdown was extended until the 30th. It means that I have more time for dramas but then again, I am a Mom and I can\’t afford to waste time. 🙁

That’s why I watch with modified speed without sound while everyone’s asleep. But I’m so picky now and I’m not mad anymore if l can’t watch more than two ongoing dramas per week + my favourites TV shows while washing dishes.
