Beanie level: Errand boy

All this teasing and lowkey insinuations better be leading to some bomb kiss or sumn?! 😭
How come the second OTP is better at kissing? LOL. I really really like their long conversations though 💖

“Since I’m drunk, should I make another mistake?”

(SIRRR… the answer is yes). 👀💋

Read a person said they doing a pun on the word movie. Young Hwa name also means movie, so he means he sees Young Hwa at home. Netflix doing bad job with the translation as many puns or the meaning of dialog is often lost….

LOL i can see how they would’ve thought though. The tone was rather suggestive, for a minute i was also like 👀 but luckily i understood it.
But the show is doing it on purpose for sure

          0
          1

Definitely done on purpose. I guess it also show that SG want to do this right, taking things slowly. Maybe we gonna get a passionate kiss as it looks like we gonna see intense emotions soon.

            1
            0

Maybe the writer and the director thought they we would spontaneously combust if they give 2 kisses in one episode.
I love their long conversations and one of the main reason why I love this drama.

    3
    0

We’ve had three in the drama so far (across OTP and second OTP). All dead fish though. I think that is the USP of this drama sadly 😂 I’m hoping my prediction is undone by the end, but it’s not really looking like it.

    3
    1

Yes I understand but WHY WHY why waste so much chemistry and sexual tension between the leads. I want to throw a temper tantrum.

      2
      1

Like this is the one annoying thing in this show. I really hate it when dramas desexualize their characters. In this show though it’s kinda worse bc 1) they’ve done some much BUILD UP we’re at a point when SOMETHING should happen, but nothing has happened & they keep throwing in a lot of suggestive shit which makes anticipat something even more… but i’m afraid they’ll leave it just at that

Are we doing a Love, February this year too?

I feel like I\’ve \”run out\” of love this past year, so maybe reflecting on it would be good. Or at least read about it.

    I hope we do!

Maybe we can do a daily or weekly theme like the #2020Roundup reviews? I know part of the magic is leaving it a free topic, but I was quite overwhelmed by the flood of posts last year.

That said, I don’t want to stop all the love. Just ignore me 😂

Hey! Sorry I’m late to this. Love February will be happening this year, and as usual it will be up to people’s own amounts of time/desire/energy to do it.

However, that said I will not be doing roundup posts like I have the last couple of years, just don’t honestly have time…

Love February began five years ago when I was sick and alone in my apartment during grad school, the exercise was my way of refocusing myself on the little things that comprise love, not just despairing the big moments that I didn’t have right then.

Love February is about recognizing that bit of love, be it a sandwich, a soup, a tree, a person, that helps defeat that despair this world is so full of.

(this is a bit of a RUN ON rant):
These two scenes really put Seon-gyeom’s personality and motives in perspective for me!

(1) The one with his mom exposed the source of his weirdness, his childlike traits that read almost as autism. It makes sense that with an upbringing that didn’t meet his emotional needs & was also abusive, he is now who he is– low on emotional intelligence and wide-eyed in the face of social situations and relationships.
(2) The scene where he goes “If I’ve become too boring, then tell me so” just broke my heart 😭. First of all who’s the bitch that hurt him so that he looked so crestfallen at the suspicion of being found “boring?!” What it did tell me was that he’s used to such rejections, and his prior hesitance on what to do about his feelings for MJ made so much more sense, bc that was just him trying to protect himself.

What I didn’t understand though was some of Mijoo’s reasoning. It’s true that Seon-gyeom can be confusing and needs to sharpen his communication skills. It’s also true that he has the tendency to bottle things up and make decisions all on his own, which makes it hard to judge where’s his mind is at, so I understand why MJ would feel “left out” (even though I don’t think he owes her anything).
HOWEVER, I really think Seon-gyeom stepped up in ep.9. He was so much more open and only had eyes for her. He even SAID he liked her ffs! So I was really confused when she pushed him away???
I did think (before watching ep.10) that her reaction stemmed from fear of abandonment, esp. since the show has mentioned the loss of her parents a lot– but that required a lot of mental gymnastics. As opposed to Seon-gyeom, whose past we’ve explored with clarity, we actually don’t know much about Mijoo’s past in detail (yet) and I find that a bit lacking. It’s much easier to understand Seon-gyeom’s actions in the context of their relationship- given all that we do know for sure about him, but we can only take Mijoo at her word when she says things like “I was too scared of loosing him, that I didn’t dare make a move … Like okay, but WHY is that?
(Anyways, if you’ve actually read this far, thanks)

It was the manner in which he confessed: she thought he was liking her as a favour to her, especially when he blindsided her about his departure from her house after she had just indirectly confessed to him earlier at the anchor-shaped pier. Her insecurity was made worse by the “Mr. One Month” nickname shared by Young Il earlier (which revealed why he said the line in the gif you posted).

As for her background, I thought the end of Episode 8 covered that quite a bit with the car ride where Sun Gyum escorted the sick Mi Joo: they talked about her experience having no parents to comfort her while she had meningitis and how she had to learn how to blend in with the other kids to avoid being ostracised. The cliffhanger scene also shows her attachment issues with Sun Gyum stepping in to help her become her anchor that she can rely on.

    11
    2

I tend to think that MJ is unconsciously strongly influenced by movies and she has few possible scenarios in her head ready (like we saw when she was back at home) for the situation and when it happened in different direction it spoiled her mood and even when she doesn’t want to be mad she is mad. They are both very direct and spare on physical contact unless they’re drunk. Even when SG confess that he wants to hold her hand, hug her and kiss her more they’re not able to do so. They need more courage and forget about past relationships.

“It was the manner in which he confessed: she thought he was liking her as a favour to her”
I agree with you on this, even though I find it wasn’t easily discernible. Hadn’t thought of it this way, thanks!

And yes we do know about her background and can theorize with all that you said, but idk… I find that it’s not explored enough still, especially in comparison to how KSG is characterized.

      3

Most of the issue stems from choice of words and interpretations. They both have issues. He states things in his own way. She interprets these in her own way (add to this her job which requires her to add context and subtexts). This seems to be the running theme. Communication and lost in translation.
They both have been sending feelers since ep 2. But neither of them are confident and are not willing to take the leap of faith and move forward. He is not used to getting close to people and she is careful about not getting hurt by people she is close to. ( both of them don’t have the ‘family’ experience)

Thanks Yuyuu. I just finished episode 9.
Re No. 1. I thought that was a beautifully written and acted mother/son scene.
Re No. 2. I really think at key moments in their developing relationship Mi-joo has unnecessarily complicated things. Seon-gyeom had done so many things in the episode to show his feelings for her when because of the shoes she gets all worked up and then winds up taking the bus back to Seoul which I thought was ridiculous. She could of joked about it by saying something like, “don’t you know it is bad luck to give someone (you like maybe romantically) shoes”? It probably would have gone right over his head. “Give me a few minutes to get my stuff and let’s get on the road”.
In an earlier episode (I think at the door to Seon-gyeom’s hotel room she said something to the effect, “when I am around you I feel crappy”. My response was, “why is that his fault”? He is not playing passive/aggressive games with you. Lay off the booze.
Actually my favorite scene in episode 9 was the lunch break conversation between Seo-gyeom and Woo-shik.
So far the writing and acting in RUN ON has been excellent.

    2
    1

My response was, “why is that his fault”?

EXACTLY. So much of their conflict is about miscommunication. A lot of Mijoo’s anger comes from how she (incorrectly) interprets SG’s words. When she says why she’s mad, SG is always like “That’s not it, that’s not what I mean.” I wish their confrontations wouldn’t end there, that they have a heart-to-heart on what exactly is ticking them both off.

      3
      0

We do know about MiJoo background: her parents died when she was a kid and she grew up in foster homes, and had to navigate her childhood being nice to others to fit (the scene in the hotel when she was given the wedding invitation and was so meanly treated by the bride), had to accept all kind of money and works to survive. She dated a director for years who, when they broke up, spread rumors that she only got any job because of him. She only find a place to call home when after finishing high school she met May (her Eun-bi?). She’s lived a tough life and even if she decided to walk on the sunny side of the street, she’s struggling every single day. Her heart was broken with her last boyfriend… will she give her heart again to SK? I think she feels she likes him so much she can’t handle another disappointment and that’s why she keeps the distance while she tries to read the signals.

    7
    1

I really like the inclusion of her ex into your interpretation! It really adds a layer to why she’s keeping her distance from SG, on top of everything else.
That much I do understand, but the way I see it is that her actions aren’t just her distancing herself from Seon-gyeom, but veer into pushing him away. I understand where she’s coming from, but also think she’s given SG too much grief for his missteps, while not owning up to hers

I\’m just catching up on RUN ON ep.9, and i just need to know WHO WROTE THAT GAY JOKE IN? 😭😭😭😭😭😭

It totally went over my head that today was wednesday, so i didn\’t schedule RUN ON in my day 😭
I only remembered cuz i saw my sister watching it & at first i thought she was rewatching last week\’s ep.

I already can\’t keep track of time & it\’s only the 2nd week of the year? Last week was completely bonkers

7

After last week’s “can you like?” “I already do,” this week’s episodes feel a bit too slow.
A week’s worth of episodes and we haven’t advanced on said affection, but we’ve lingered to zoom in on a petty fight.

I still liked the episodes. Tonally, the show is offbeat enough that it doesn’t feel like we’re being sidetracked too much, and I actually really liked that we focused on (1) the inner lives of our characters like our otp’s reasons for putting up walls, why they fought, Seon-gyeom’s loneliness, and (2) other relationships: Seon-gyeom & his mom, the trackfield hoobaes, Seon-gyeom & Yeonghwa, the coach…
And while I enjoy their banter, I’m still unsure about what they’re doing with Dan-ah and Yeonghwa. Given the power imbalance between them, I’m not really rooting for them as a potential couple (which is what it seems the show is pushing for).

I hope there won’t be too many times of heart-fluttering endings and hand-holdings that lead to *nowhere* (gives me flashbacks to CLOY’s grossly misplaced chastity 😬) & that the narrative picks up some speed next week!
The last scene of tonight’s episode was very lovely though. Again Im Siwan and those eyes of his! 🥺
And for a guy who’s kind of emotionally immature, Seongyeom sure does have a sweet tongue!

13
9

Seon-gyeom’s eyes in this scene killed me 🥺

    5
    2

I felt like Mi-joo has been trying to match Seon-gyeom’s speed since the beginning so now it’s his turn to match hers. It was hard for her to figure out why she was mad and how to work it out but in the end, he’s the one who too the initiative and told her that she can rely on him.

I found this week’s episodes to be more focused on other things besides the leads and I really didn’t mind. It was nice to have perspective from other characters as well.

    9
    2

      *was hard for him

      1
      0

Yes I agree that SG is the one who needs to step up here! He’s so deadpan and logical, I’m curious to see how he will handle his feelings. From Mijoo’s perspective, I understand why she would find him confusing and frustrating, bc he expresses his feelings in weird ways. But we’ve seen his own frustration at her not being able to decipher that he does like her… I think eventually that frustration will lead him to confess it.

      2
      0

Yeah, I agree, not much movement but some good character stuff.

I see Dan-ah and Young-hwa as a transitory relationship but not sure what the writer intends.

Seon-gyeom is emotionally immature but nothing if not logical. Those words were swoony but actually very logical lol.

I thought the eps were nice, not great. I was a little annoyed with the candy trope being overdone in the end of ep8. I could have done with less of that.

I actually really liked ep 7 but found ep 8 a tad bit slow but I did’nt mind it. What I did’nt get was how mijoo can be angry when someone is following you with those sad puppy eyes. SK was like a cute duckling(ala misaeng)

A very good morning indeed.
I’m just over here CACKLING, cuz we been knew & were just waiting for a confirmation, no? 😂

Dispatch is a bitch for forcing their hand, but I can’t be too mad about it this time, because this is the one time I was actually madly shipping people.
I guess love really does show, because there’s no way you’d look at those two and not think they’re fucking in love with each other. Anyways, this is too many words to say I’m happy for them & wish them the best, and thank them once more for lending their chemistry to CLOY

lol.. someone on soompi wrote when the news broke

    sthg to this order:

because the truth is (like it or not).. the fandom that has the time to do all crazy antics (aka sustain fandoms, merch purchase etc) .. is essentially 10-teenagers segment..

        they are immature!

One direction’s fan study is best example. And the way Harry owned that truth was also amazing – “Yes, they are young teenagers but that doesn’t mean they can’t choose for their own” ( completely not siding with them on being mature 😛 .. such a soft blow that fandom didn’t even realize)

Anyway i like that man.. he is smart orator

The One Direction blew up when I was in 6th grade and their fandom in my school was so annoying that I could never really enjoy One Direction.

I doubt Dispatch actually forced their hand. My guess is that this was all a very well orchestrated announcement – SYJ and HB strike me as being too savvy and experienced to “get caught.” The article itself and the subsequent statements are all an air-tight narrative – and may I just add, good for them for controlling their story and their timing. More power to them!

    7
    1

I thought the very same thing.
These celebs are most of the time in control of their narratives & the “close people” the article mentions are most likely PR & this whole thin is PR orchestrated.

But i was like fine, i’ll play along.

In other news, I have been watching RUN ON diligently and I LOVE it.
I have a lot to say about the show, but I’ll leave that for a later time.

Today though, this scene literally made my heart skip! Im Siwan has one of the clearest, most complex, soulful eyes… it’s arresting. When people talk of “eyes like pools of honey,” this is what I think it looks like. His gaze is so soft and subtle, but full of thousands of emotions you’ll miss if you blink. I could wax poetic about it 💖

“Can you like me?”
“I already do.”

I wanted to watch more of him in dramas after Misaeng, but his follow ups weren’t really my type of shows… I’m so glad this one landed with me!

KAI’s solo debut just came to my attention!
The (mini) album is amazing & turning out to be in fact one of my favorite releases this year.
Like wow they really snapped, just look at this visual album MV thingy — ART.
I haven’t liked a k-pop release so completely since Taemin’s debut album ‘Press It.’

7
7

He’s amazing. His album is amazing. Have you watched the dance practices? They’re so good.

    2
    2

Second the dance practice videos, they’re awesome! And I love the whole album. Kai’s an all rounder: he’s got voice, dance skills and visuals.
But I very much object to his styling in all the MVs except Ride or Die. What’s the deal with those scarfy shirts? Been seeing them everywhere, even in webtoons! And all the shirtless dancing is a bit much – but maybe that’s just because I’m one of those who can’t deal with too much of a good thing 🤣
Anyway, he looks so stunning that he’s nice to look at even in ugly outfits. So no complaints here, only praise!

      3
      1

I don’t mind the shirtless dancing tbh, but I’m a degenerate so my opinion can’t be relied on. I do find some of the styling super weird though. The blue, too-small shirt with the bright red pants and weird head covering are bit much. Also, the cowboy outfit plus sensual dancing are perhaps a bit too Magic Mike for comfort LOL. Second the point about him being so pretty that he stands out even in ugly outfits! He’s a really nice to look at it.

I really love the entire album as well! Have been listening to it a lot for the past little bit. And I agree re all-rounder — Kai has a lot of talent as a dancer and as a singer! He’s also great on variety shows and really pretty lol.

Is it just me or is there a plethora of up-and-coming, handsome young actors lately?
Think Song Kang, Lee Jae-wook, Kim Young-dae, Lee Do-hyun…
I Love it!
(I would just love to see them more in the types of shows I like, esp. the last two hehe)!

10
11

I’m deciding if I should just watch Cheat On Me If You Can JUST for Kim Young-dae LOL? Bc I didn’t really like the show, but I like him, so… 👉👈

Can anyone who’s watching the show advise me on how worth it this would be? 😅

    2
    1

I’m watching Cheat On Me, If You Can for KYD. The show itself is okay, although nothing especially great. If you watch it, you’ll probably hate Go Joon’s character with a passion. However, the antics involving CYJ and KYD’s relationship with CYJ’s character are cute. The mystery plot is pretty sub-par IMO, although it’s passable enough to keep me watching without FFing.

      1
      1

I watched the premiere & already hated Go Joon’s character! He’s so vile & pathetic but so well-played!
Y’know what i’ll watch a few more episodes and see those antics! Thanks for answering.

        1
        0

I don’t personally find Lee Jae-wook handsome, although I nod vigorously re Lee Do-hyun (especially Lee Do-hyun!) and Kim Young-dae. Song Kang is alright as well.

    3
    2

With me, the case is that I start finding an actor handsome if he portrays a character well. This happened very strongly in the case of Kim Woo Bin. I had never seen him before The Heirs and I loved him so much as Young Do that I started finding him really handsome

      3
      1

I think this is pretty fair! The role can make a big difference. There are a lot of people whom I like more or less depending on how they act, the roles they play, or how they are during variety show appearances. (I will have to disagree with you about The Heirs though. LOL.)

        1
        1

I didnt like The Heirs but I watched it for the sake of Kim Woo Bin.

          2
          1

Fair! You’d be perfectly within your rights to like it as well — I’d just have a different opinion.

I think I’ve only seen KWB in a movie which also had Lee Junho and Kang Haneul. I don’t remember the name of the movie, but it was a comedy. I thought he was pretty good in that (although his character was pretty meh).

            2
            0

Song Kang is a prime example of flower boy looks, which i find more cute than handsome per se, but still good-looking in a very innocent way. Can’t believe he’s 26!

      2
      1

He’s 26? 😲😲😲 That’s surprising. I do think he’s a flower boy and that might be a bit of why I don’t like him as much as Kim Young-dae and Lee Do-hyun, who give a more masculine appearance. Having said that, I’m pretty inconsistent about this sort of thing. I find Lee Joon-gi super good-looking and attractive, and I think he’s a bit of a flower boy as well. I also like Simon Gong Jun’s visuals and I think he is also a bit of a flower boy too.

Did I just find my end-of-year drama?
I decided to try Run On on a whim and I loved it!
I loved the offbeat dialogue, the quirky characters and the atmosphere (although I’m lost on if there’s an actual plot).
I have never been able to watch a Shin Sekyung drama and I gave this a try bc Im Siwan was in it, but I’m pleasantly surprised that I liked SSK’s character and acting in this! Idk if it just suits her style or if she’s generally improved.
I’m waiting for a few more episodes to decide if I want to complete this & I hope I won’t be disappointed, bc I got a really good first impression from the premier!
And this is really giving me WFKBJ vibes (not just bc of the sports theme)

PS: Is Im Siwan’s character on the autism spectrum or is he just plain weird?

I havent watched him in anything before this and I just find him so pretty, lol.

I found his looks almost uncanny and Ken doll-like at the very beginning of ep 1, with his straight expression, but it really works for his character’s weirdness, lol.

Everything about this show is super offbeat. It’s an interesting directorial choice. They almost seem like aliens… But like, not in a bad way.

I like that they seem intrigued by each others weirdness.

Ditton on your feelings. I’m not sure what the plot is or if there’s any but it’s endearing so I’m sticking with it for now(because usually plot less shows lose me soon).

this is the 1st actor that is actually complementing her both physically and acting wise (so i give actor the credit for it)..

    This drama is cuteness adorbs
i guess overall plot is for him to find the purpose or passion for running

but romance and last scene in ep 2, “this is my girlfriend, (turns around faces her) seriously (big big big smile)”

It would be interesting if he’s on the spectrum, but I don’t see the drama going there. I’m guessing he’s just plain weird.

I just loved the premiere and the weirdly honest relation they share from the beginning. I don’t know where drama is heading or what it is about, but I was smiling during the whole two episodes and when they ended I was a in a better mood. I can’t find a better reason to watch a drama.

Day 19 – Most memorable scene

No less, no more. Period
These scenes SHOOK me and are etched in mind forever.

Day 15 – Those secondary characters you will never forget: SL, villain, kids…(for better or worse).
The Ducklings! Such a fun bunch that ended up becoming the best brothers to Yoon Seri. They all had distinct personalities, but were also distinct as a unit & they were hilarious together.

Day 16 – Best quote / oneliner.
“That lousy capitalist heart!” – Ri Jeonghyuk/ Hyun Bin, CLOY (2020)

Will forever have me howling with laughter.
There are a lot of poignant quotes from CLOY & IONTBO that come to mind, but that one is just too ICONIC. The words, the delivery *chef’s kiss*

Day 17 – The drama that made you emotional.
It’s Okay Not To Be Okay: really managed not to just tap into our feelings of empathy for the characters, but also engaged our own feelings on a personal level, because of how relatable the emotions were. While the characters faced their own set of hardships, we could all relate to having A hardship & experiencing similar emotions. Which was incredibly cathartic for me as I cried & laughed with AND for them. THIS is a prime example of how you make a “healing” drama & it was exactly I needed in middle of this pandemic. 💖

(I’m skipping Day 18 because there’s not that much to rant about. I loved the dramas that I loved & I’ve talked at length about them, and the ones I hated are not worth that much of my energy lol)

So PSH stans really woke up today & chose to bring the violence to DB.
Hope they’re on their way back to PSH-Stanning HQ

I remember something similar happened with some fans of LMH in the early threads of TK:EM.
I’m not getting anywhere near that thread.

They just swarmed the comment section 🤦🏻‍♀️ One troll even followed a beanie’s fan wall and made a comment there! Thank goodness, db staff cleaned it up.

It’s so toxic, it makes me feel that I need to have a shower, and to mix my metaphors, the aftertaste lingers.

I noticed most comments start with “wow”. Is that a code word for PSH Stans or what 😄

Some Beanies told me that I’ll need around 3500 comments plus a lot of followers and the ones I’m following. I don’t know if that helps but I am religiously following their advice 😅.

commenting on recaps, articles is much more efficient than posting on the fanwall ^^’
it’s not about milestones comments, just a weird DB algorithm *sigh*

If that’s true i’m almost there. But i’ve also followed the advices to be more in recaps & articles, which i’ve been doing… let’s see if it yields anything in 2021!
