Beanies, I need your help!
I haven’t been watching that many dramas recently, currently only watching HPL, and stopped midway through Confession because of slow subs before it ended.
A few questions:

– I want to check out Abyss, bc of the seemingly interesting concept and PBY, but I have low expectations for the male lead’s acting. How’s the show overall?
– Also wanna check out Nokdu Flower bc of the cast, but I find sageuks too boring bc of political machinations. Is this a good drama for a non-sageuk person?

Nokdu Flower doesn’t look like the average sageuk. It doesn’t have court politics with Prime Minister vs Crown Prince machinations, no childhood episodes (rare case!) so you jump right in the story in the first episode. The focus is on the people and their revolution. Petty fights in court usually stop people to get in sageuks and this one puts the people and the aristocrats ideology against each other. An other drama that’s close to it is Rebel: Thief Who Stole The People.

I recommend My Fellow Citizens. It’s very refreshing to have a show that isn’t about romance or some huge crime/corruption/scandal. It’s a very fun show about a conman who ends up running for assemblyman. It’s hilarious, the pacing is good, it has Choi Siwon, and it has the girl from the ukelele couple in Reach of Sincerity as the main character’s sister.

I am going around seconding suggestions to watch My Fellow Citizens. I binged it over the weekend and I was surprised at how fun it was. There’s no cheesy love triangle, since the main couple is married. Just the husband trying his darnest to make sure his cop wife doesn’t know he’s a conman and hilarity ensues when he makes a deal with stylish mob lady boss Hoo Ja. Choi Siwon can be a hit or miss, I disliked his previous drama revolution something2. But in MFC he’s ok. His family is hilarious too. I don’t dislike any character yet, which is a good feat considering there’s only 4 episodes left. Hahaha
