These episodes leave me speechless .. I just want to watch them over and over again..
The way Han Gyul said "Eh?" when Eun Chan said she is not thinking of marriage yet .. melt me in my place..
His voice was so.. the way he said it was to ask for explanation but in the same time was so calm with no intention of teasing or making fun of her .. loved it!

rtan: it’s the same old plot where parents do not like the guy/girl

Ah, but I don't think it is. It alludes to that plot but makes it into something quite different. First off, it's been plain from the start (or maybe not, but I think it was meant to be) that Granny dotes on HG. That's the key to her whole treatment of him and his response to it that sets the Coffee Prince business in motion. But doting on isn't the same as idolising. She wants him to be happy and successful, but she believes that he may need a bit of direction from an apparently crusty elder to find his own route to becoming the sort of person she knows he is and is capable of becoming. So she isn't going to fall over in delight when, just after hearing first off from HG himself, then indirectly through the business plan he's outlined to his father, how he's flourished in and through the coffee house enterprise, she finds that the guy sitting opposite across her table is a gal, and that she and HG are dating and that she's been kept in the dark about this development until it kind of slipped out. And as for HG's mother, well she doesn't get to say much in that scene, but what a masterpiece of acting and directing her reactions, intermittently but tellingly tracked by the editing, are. No one who runs through that gamut of emotions on sensing (as mothers, adoptive or not, generally do) that her beloved only son has finally met the Right One) is going to join in protracted opposition. When Granny makes her surprise raid on the coffee shop next day, stumbling on EC in the midst of what looks like a very unladylike brawl, she has Mommy in tow as well, and once more, to get the inner dynamics (and longer term implications) of the cross-examination of EC re her marital plans or absence thereof, you need to watch Mom's expressions as well as listening to Granny's blusterings. Most importantly of all, in their different ways (corresponding to their different ages and experiences) both HG and EC grasp that although there is stretch of difficult water ahead to navigate, Granny isn't a rock that's going to sink them. On the contrary, the stormy waves she's currently throwing up may well be the first signs of a safe landfall on which they can build the rest of their shared lives. Nothing of this is certain of course. But neither are any such things in life. And this drama is more artfully close to life than anything else I've seen on a TV screen, from Korea or anywhere else.

Again, the sheer attention to detail, always telling and never obtrusive, was wonderful. The coffee-bean-biting tutorial was spot on. I know, because my parents were in the coffee trade and my teeth were tested and my tastebuds trained in a similar way. And even the doggie acting is superb. Our inhouse canine drama critic was totally convinced by those welcoming noises, and immediately started scrabbling to get behind the screen to have a good sniff of what was plainly to her eyes a very attractive butt. So I'll hold back my slight quibbles re the ultrasound. Though I must admit that unless scanning technology (not to mention the rate of human embryonic growth) has vastly improved in the quarter century or so since I last carried one of those little trophies around in my wallet, I doubt whether you are going to see anything like that image at that stage of a pregnancy. Though I suppose that, together with the suspicion raised by c in #66, and YJ's initial expression in the bathroom when she saw the telltale line, that could still turn out to have been intentional. I found that expression difficult to "read" and I suppose could have been at least momentary dismay rather than just alarm, i.e. confirming something ominous rather than merely surprising. But I somehow doubt it, in view of the baby-store scene. We shall see.

And, it goes without saying: thank you multiple times, javabeans, for this post and everything else you do for us all.
