after getting all the squealing out of my systems, here are some thoughts on WWWSK0.4:

1. the more I see of YJ (especially through MS’s memories) the more vulnerable and sweeter he looks
2. the more I see of his hyung, the more I dislike him
3. I was very happy when MS branded him as a player and refused to give him her phone number
4. In light of the discussion between brothers I have a completely new understanding of his obsession with perfectionism and his need to appear faultless in other people’s eyes. He abhors his ‘incompetent and weak’ brother so he puts his all into becoming his polar opposite.
5. I guess YJ got his sneaky ways from his mom.
6. the denial is strong in this boy
7. The double entendres in this episode were lovely – e.g the being in the dark yet finally seeing what was not apparent in the light. I especially loved the symmetry of the beginning and ending of the episode and it’s meaning – although attraction was there between them from the get-go, they needed the book and the conversation about what constitutes love in MS’s eyes before he realized that she was that person for him all along.
8. MS’s ‘stay for ramyeon’ so nicely mirrors YJ’s ’stay the night’
Overall, I am impressed about the ability of the show to seamlessly move between sweet and funny and dark. It manages to both clever and entertaining. Full marks.

[7 & 8] I love how perceptive you are! I totally didn’t make the correlation with the mirroring stuff.

The ability of seamlessly moving between sweet and funny and dark is an art that the Korean entertainment has perfected.

About the older brother: I understand to some degree the predicament of having an younger brother who surpasses him in everything. It explains why he is such a player: he feels ignored/unappreciated by his family so he seeks validation from the countless women he seduces. In that light I would have understood to some degree (but still disliked) if he showed interest in his brother’s pretty crush. BUT when you are told that KMS is the ‘only person in the world that YJ trusts and can rely on’ and you plan seducing her in retaliation for what YJ said then you are scum. YJ’s characterization was pretty much on point. Don’t need to know anything about what he did 20y ago to hate the guy.
