“Season” drama stars attend director Yoon Seok-ho’s wedding

Drama PD Yoon Seok-ho was married on Sunday, and wishing him well were, among others, the stars of his famed quartet of “season” dramas: Autumn Fairy Tale, Winter Sonata, Summer Scent, and Spring Waltz. (Although, really, only the Autumn and Winter dramas could be called successes.)

That includes Winter Sonata stars Choi Ji-woo and Park Yong-ha; Autumn Fairy Tale leads Song Seung-heon and Song Hye-gyo; Summer Scent actress Sohn Ye-jin; and Spring Waltz leads Han Hyo-joo and Daniel Henney.

The ceremony for the television-drama director and his hanbok-designer bride, Han Hye-soo, was held in Seoul on the 11th.

A notable absence was Winter Sonata star Bae Yong-joon, although a couple of his co-stars did attend. Some celebrities did the expected press pose-and-greet session outside, but a few like Song Hye-gyo kept themselves removed from the cameras as they made their way to the ceremony.

Song Seung-heon (East of Eden) wasn’t one of the shy stars; the vast majority of the photos are of him, Sohn Ye-jin, and Lee Byung-heon:

Sohn Ye-jin (My Wife Got Married)

Lee Byung-heon (The Good, The Bad, The Weird)

Han Hyo-joo (Iljimae)

Park Yong-ha (On Air)

Seo Do-young (Unstoppable Wedding)

Choi Ji-woo (A Star’s Lover), like Song Hye-gyo (The World They Live In) on the right, also kept at a distance and was only seen from the back:

Lee So-yeon (Spring Waltz)

Kwon Hae-hyo (Cain & Abel, What’s Up Fox)

A pity we can't see SHK, she seemed totally cute!! But son yeh jin is really beautiful, as usual!
Since the scandal with LDH in EOE and SSH statement, I'm a little awkward with him, he makes me moody...

@Stephanie

That exactly what I said to myself as I looked through the pictures, you wouldn't know they were going to a wedding with all the black everyone's wearing.

is it the norm to be wearing black to a wedding? I think it's not just this wedding but others too...

I'm not sure how it is with Koreans, but the Chinese associate white with funerals.

Huh, surprised to see Lee Byung-heon there. I thought he had a small role in a Yoon Seok-ho drama.

"(Although, really, only the Autumn and Winter dramas could be called successes.)"

Ahhh . . . well actually Summer Scent was a massive hit in Japan and Taiwan. In Japan, Summer Scent (and not Autumn Tale) is actually the show that gave Song Seung Heon superstar status. The combination of Summer Scent and April Snow established Son Yeh Jin's pan-Asian status as well.

Do you wonder if/how Lee Byung-heon and Song Hye-gyo greeted each other since they were once a couple? Most everyone was nicely dressed.

Hmmm, I don't know about that. That's like saying Air City was a hit because it got sold to Japan. Summer Scent is widely seen as a big flop.

Oh and congratulations to Yoon Seok-ho. He's 50 years old, and it sounded like he would be a bachelor all his life.

"Summer Scent is widely seen as a big flop."

Again, not in Japan, it's 2nd among the 4 seasonal dramas in popularity over there. Its in the top 6 or 7 Korean dramas over there alltime in overall popularity. Because of it success overseas, that's why there was so much foreign investment in Spring Waltz, even though its ratings were extremely poor. Summer Scent helped spurn the business model where potential shows be programmed for international sales, even if its domestic prospects (i.e. melodramas tearjerkers were "out" in Korea by 2005 or so) weren't good. The foreign market helps to subsidize the show and in some cases, pays for it all.

"Do you wonder if/how Lee Byung-heon and Song Hye-gyo greeted each other since they were once a couple? "

Haha . . . NO. :D

I'll jump in here and agree with points on both sides of the Summer Scent argument -- a drama that has success abroad can't be hailed a complete failure. But overseas success supplements the drama's first run, it doesn't replace it. As in, a Korean drama that is a pretty clear flop in Korea isn't aided that much by overseas success, at least in terms of cachet. Financially, the prodcos try to recover some of their lost investment overseas and the stars save some face, but I'm going to land on the side of "Summer Scent was not a career builder for most involved." It is also largely regarded as the worst of the four season dramas.

Yeah, I kinda have a problem with the black clothing too... The only time I see everyone wears black is to funerals... Usually for weddings, it's white or some happy color, pink, green, blue or something (except for guys cus it's just.. ya know, a suit lol.).

Yeah, I agree with that. I'm only bringing up Summer Scent, because its overseas success was genuinely remarkable (and baffling.) That it was a big reason for Song Seung Heon's popularity in Japan, and part of Son Yeh Jin's burgeoning identity as pan-Asian celebrity. Even now, I found Summer Success's success overseas remarkable, since even now, she's often still viewed as that girl in Japan. Heh.

"It is also largely regarded as the worst of the four season dramas."

Yeah, that's part of why its popularity overseas (I mean, dude, it's bigger than All in in Japan LOL) is so baffling. :D

I think you meant Seo Do Young instead of Daniel Henney in this sentence: "and Spring Waltz leads Han Hyo-joo and Daniel Henney." Lols.

I always thought he was married already.. Guess not, haha.
But congrats to the happy couple!!

Oh! And the reason why there are no pictures of the newlyweds is because the wedding was ultra exclusive so no outside photographers.

agree with most people, why wear black? but anyhow, in europe, everyone wear black. its soo moody.
and SSH. i think there's not much critics there in Korea. he has more fans than antis. and the critics.. lets face it, antis are always louder. they use multiple name, and try to search all website they could find, and make noise again... thats the fact.

i asked the same question why wear black in a wedding? is this usually the trend in Korea for weddings? i remember also when Kwon Sang Woo got married most of them were wearing black! i love soo do young -- he looks cool in sneakers (smile). I hope he makes another drama he's one of my faves among the Endless Love stories!
I wonder if this is second marriage for the director as he doesn't look that young to be married the first time?
Also missing is BYJ from his Winter Sonata fame!
Congrats Director! May you have a blissful life!

personally, i wasn't impressed with Summer Scent either -- that's the only one among the endless love series that i didn't even bother purchasing on dvd, i got all of the other three but skipped on SS! it didn't really hit me & i was actually a bit disappointed cause i love the leading actors! but as it is with other dramas or movies, it's up to the viewers' taste i might add, what may be good or nice to them may not be for you & me!

Well I guess I'm in the minority...Summer Scent is my favorite second to Winter Sonata. I didn't care for autumn story at all.

I too thought the PD was already married. Good for him.

I wonder of LBH and SHG interacted. I really liked them as a couple because he seemed to dote on her.

I don't know for the rest of you, but personally I think that Summer Scent was a success abroad. If you think that Autumn love story is good, Summer Scent is better. I was really touched by tha fact that this story had instil very sexy and seductive poses as to show their loves. Example, with only using eye contact I could feel the love Ha Yweon has for Min Woo. Also the dancing part where it was really romantic. unfortunately, it was only shown recently here in Malaysia 2009. I didn't know that the SS was directed in 2003; way outdated. I would really love if Song Seung Heon and Son Yejin could team up again and do more romantic scenes compared to their previous drama SS. If they were to become real life couple, Thank God!!!!

This is just my opinion. Those who favored Summer Scent had to be the very young. No true love story could entail just a gaze through out the show. The main characters had already experience love affair with others. How could they express love with a gaze. That is a teenage fantasy and they were not teenagers. Spring Waltz was a realistic charming love story with a happiest of endings. Winter Sonata was a great love story but ended very weakly, It deserved a whopping love man/woman MOMENT loving embrace-- not a darkened wisp of a kiss. Autumn in my Heart was a true unconditional love story. As Sad and tragic it was, it excelled writing, directing and acting.

this is like way later than all the comments here, but I will just like to say that summer scent was quite a success in my country too! They reruned the show quite a few times as well, some time slots were even quite good. I'm rewatching this drama for the third time now, so it just shows how much I like it! I was really young though when Autumn first came out, so all I could remember was lots of crying and cancer. Winter sonata and Summer Scent remained my all time favourites though I don't plan on watching Spring Waltz.

Yet again, it's very subjective, and I think you can't base a drama's success on its episode ratings. (:
