Hometown of Legends is back for a 2009 edition
by javabeans
After last year’s revival of 1990s horror series Hometown of Legends proved to be a hit (and starred some recognizable names like Choi Su-jong, Park Min-young, Jae Hee, Lee Jin), KBS is bringing it back for a fresh new run this summer.
That also means that Hon won’t be the only horror offering for viewers his month, as both dramas will begin airing within a week of each other. (Hon kicked off today, while Hometown of Legends will premiere next week.)
In fact, I notice a few repeat names in this year’s batch that were also featured in last year’s version (Lee Young-eun, Kim Tae-ho). They won’t be reprising roles, however, since Hometown of Legends has always been in an anthology format (each episode depicts its own ghost story brought to life).
Like in past versions, the drama is a fusion sageuk, meaning that all of the segments are based in ye olden days. Jeon Hye-bin takes on the ghost-story favorite character of a gumiho, or nine-tailed fox (which was a creature also featured in last year’s version, played by Park Min-young). Kim Ji-seok, on the other hand, plays a bloodsucking creature — think Korean-style vampire, not the variety prone to sparkles or excessive staring in the dark.
The drama kicks off next Monday, August 10.
The production also held its press conference on August 5, attended by the drama’s cast and crew.
Jeon Hye-bin (Scale of Providence, Witch Amusement) leads the cast:
Kim Ji-seok (Likable or Not) and Lee Young-eun (War of Money):
Jung Kyeo-woon, gah, what are you wearing? Such a nice-looking fellow, such a weird women’s romper he’s got on, with its tapered legs and heavy boots. He plays a man searching to find his beloved, played by Jo Yoon-hee (below).
On the other hand, Jo Yoon-hee (Spotlight) looks very pretty (and very Hyori-esque, no?), as does Kim Tae-ho (My Precious You):
Jang Hee-jin (Rough Cut) and Kim Hyung-mi:

Jeon Hye Bin was also in The Man Who Can't Get Married. Only in a few eps though.
This I can watch alone. Ghosts in costumes don't scare me as much. Hon is much creepier...I think.

... who was that in the yellow/black/red dress (guess that is called a hanbok?) . lower right pic in the first set of pics. somehow, that creeped me out.
i'd like to see jeon hye bin again in a non-horror drama. she's a pretty decent actress i think.

I don't see Hyori in Jo Yoon-hee. I mean I guess she SORTA looks like her if you glanced at her really quickly but if you look closely at their facial features nothing looks the same. Hyori is much, much prettier. Jo Yoon-hee just looks bitchy to me. Maybe thats because her character was quite mean in Spot light.

Lee Young Eun always looks so adorable. One of the cutest Korean actresses no doubt.
And oh my, Jo Yoon Hee looks SO much better here than she did in Spotlight. Couldn't even recognize her. Yes, she does resemble Hyori a bit.

I'm so confused. I thought I saw an article that said Kim Tae Ho died in a motorcycle accident about a month ago?
