Go-sa sequel on the rocks?

Last month, a sequel was announced for last year’s summer horror flick Go-sa: Bloody Midterms, also called Death Bell (starring Lee Beom-soo, Nam Gyuri, Kim Bum). However, two recent press conferences for the sequel project have been abruptly canceled without adequate reason, leading to puzzlement over why.

Go-sa 2 is to be a collaboration between CEO Kim Kwang-soo of production company Core Contents Media and horror director Ahn Byung-ki (of Nightmare and the upcoming Phone remake). A previous press conference had been announced, then canceled. It was rescheduled for December 9, but two hours before the event, it was also canceled, saying that Kim had caught a cold.

Go-sa was the debut film project for Core Contents Media, and its surprise success in theaters allowed the company to produce the Kwon Sang-woo melodrama More than Blue (aka A Story Sadder than Sadness), which was not a critical or commercial success. Reportedly, the Go-sa sequel is not likely to bring back Lee Beom-soo. Singer-turned-actress Nam Gyuri had a fractious split with Core Contents when she left SeeYa and criticized CEO Kim, so she’s clearly out as well.

(Tangential note: If you can read Korean, the source article is pretty amusing because it’s basically spewing vitriol at the producers for canceling the press conference. I’ve just taken out the general facts, but the original is so bitter it’s actually funny. You’d think a cancellation were a grave moral failing. It even points out that it’s not even swine flu, but a normal cold, lol.)

lol. I love the title of the article:

"GOSA 2 IN CRISIS BECAUSE OF A COLD"

Way to be non-inflammatory, OSEN. everybody should take a few anti-inflammatories like Advil or Motrin... sigh.

Isn't it hysterical? I was mucho confused for a few moments at first because 감기 is the title of another of Ahn's horror films, so I was wondering what the swine flu had to do with any of these movies.

My favorite parts are how they have to get in digs at More than Blue (a "blot" on Lee Beom-soo's filmography! Oh noes!) and how derisive they are to the two producers.

On the other hand, OSEN is pretty powerful. I see their name everywhere in sports and entertainment news and stuff. Media group...

If they don't like something or someone, they probably do have a significant impact on financial deals, who gets hired, who gets fired, getting the masses worked up, etc. If they are bashing Kim Kwang-soo, then this is orchestrated.... perhaps to get rid of him?

...I feel like I am a character in a Korean revenge drama now, reverse-engineering a corporate coup... I gotta watch something other than k-dramas... omg.

@Samsooki

No more k-dramas for you?!? Right, no. I think that'll never happen. Heck, that'll never happen to any of us k-dramas addicts ^^

@JB. That's probably cos the journalists were bitter: they were all ready to go out of their offices, attend a press conferences and suddenly it's cancelled? because of a cold?!? come on, the PR people could've come up with a better excuse. (Btw, I'm so not defending the journalists)

i really liked 고사 (GoSa)

if they do end up making a sequel for 고사, it will probably be something similar to the Whispering Corridors horror series ^^
