Kim Yuna writes book

Famous Korean skater, 20-year old Kim Yuna, will be releasing a personal narrative book on January 29th, called Kim Yuna’s 7 Minute Drama.

The book walks through her figure skating career starting at the young age of 7 through topics more mundane such as music choice as well as her preparations for the upcoming Winter Olympics and growing pains.

Besides winning trophies on the skating rink, Kim Yuna is also reported to be the highest paid CF-queen, appearing often on the screen. As she is also very much a source a national pride, I think the book will garner interest. Celebrities who have published their books have done well in the past, and it appears this one will as well.

Just speculating, but I figure that book will be A LOT more interesting, say, 2 weeks after January 29. ;)

(or is that the point?)

Standard operating procedure for a skating star to produce a ghost-written book somewhere around an Olympics. Some are pretty good (my daughter liked Michelle Kwan's) some can be awful.

After figure skating...

Kim Yuna’s 7 Minute K-Drama?

Imagine if Triple had Kim Yuna playing a rival skater.... instantly, a 10% jump in ratings.

There are plenty of singers who have made the switch to k-dramaland... Rain, Lee Seung Gi, Sung Yuri, Yoon Eun Hye, Eric Mun, TOP, Lim Chang-jung umm.. I know there are more...

Are there Korean professional athletes who have made the switch to acting?

"Are there Korean professional athletes who have made the switch to acting?"

Song Hye Kyo was a competitive skater in her teens before she embarked on acting.

Also, I believe Kim Tae Hee was a popular measuring ruler for CD sizes during her teens before she embarked on acting.

One of the most poular hosts (the one Young Girl Warrior Yoon Eun Hye threw in X-man) big dude was a working wrestler.

Really? Song Hye Kyo was a pro skater? That's awesome.

I really wonder why you don't see more sports in dramas. It really appears that actors are very poor at sports in general.

Like, in My Girl, the girl who played a pro tennis player.... was really bad. It was difficult for me to watch those scenes without cringing. She even had to stay in midcourt to get the ball over the net.... just embarrassing.

Notable exceptions:

- also in My Girl, Lee Jun Ki was pretty decent with the squash racquet
- Daniel Henney, as a basketball player in MNIKSS.

Other:

- Two Outs In the Bottom of the Ninth, the baseball player... wasn't terrible. He was about the same as a pitcher as, say, Kevin Costner was as a pitcher in the movie he did.

- Cha Seung Won hitting a golf ball in City Hall... also, not terrible. It was clear he sliced the ball, but everybody was clapping at how good he hit it... which was a little bit cringe-worthy, but you couldn't tell exactly.

The 7 Minutes = 2 min 50 sec for the short program + 4 min 10 sec for the long program.

Oh, and figure skaters don't win trophies, they win medals. ;)

She is one amazing girl. I love her skating. Since I'm a figure skater, I'm proud to see her work so hard not only on the ice but with cf commercials and now releasing a book. Go Yuna Kim fighting!

I don't care about the book, but I want her to win that OGM in Vancouver! I'll be sitting up all night biting my nails. :-) A whole nation is expecting her to win gold and is the biggest favorite of them all - the other 3 figure skating disciplines have favorites for the title, but none of them are as big as Yu-na. Aja aja!

I remember in 2006 when she won the Junior world title. She wore braces and was extremely shy. She really has blossomed into this really beautiful woman in the past 4 years. Korea can be proud of her!

She skates to the James Bond theme. That alone should give her the Gold medal. :D

wow i like how you called the music choice completley mundane.
how can that be when MUSIC is the single element that sets the mood. It is up to the skater to live up to it. Sorry if I sound sensitive, but ...

"MUSIC is the single element that sets the mood."

Indeed. Music and choreography are absolutely crucial. Above all, it must fit both the athleticism and sensibility of the skater. (Though to be fair, Kim Yuna is known for her moody versatility. She could do a Michelle Kwan-style program perhaps better than any of the top 10 skaters in the world.)

Or put it another way, good as her Scheherazade program is, Kim Yuna's 007 program is the Chuno of figure skating programs. When she executes that one, the crowd and the judges go absolutely bonkers. I'm not exaggerating when I say her 007 program is one of the greatest in the history of figure skating.

because of my ignorance in skating world, i thought she was the figure skater in Triple (the other girl) because they look the same in the picture above.

i didn't know (too) that Song Hye Gyo was once a figure skater, so that's why she has confidence in Full House skating sequence

@ samsooki,

shame on you.... binnie was a swimmer in highsch and he swam (and frolicked with DH in some glorious pool bromance) in MNIKSS

@15,

Moopie, oh please, I totally remembered that scene in MNKISS! :D

But I didn't include it because, about 5 minutes before that scene, Daniel Henney totally, totally out-classed him on the basketball court, embarrassing every guy in Korea in the process. The fact that my Binnie had to then drag out his speedos and get in the pool with DH just to regain some pride? EVEN MORE embarrassing... If Binnie had lost the swim battle too, then would he have to drag DH to some fake kimchi eating contest in order to salvage something? I was embarrassed watching that swimming scene, which ended in a fight and made me wish that Samsoon had gone for the blind date guy instead.

@belleza,

Now that I think about it, I do remember that SHG looked comfortable on the ice in Full House.

But, even as comfortable as she looked, to my eyes, she didn't seem completely completely at home. Not sure how to describe it. I grew up on the ice (learned to skate about the same time as I learned to walk), and played ice hockey up through first year college, and when spend your life watching ppl skate, you sort of get a feel for those who feel at home. To them, skating is no different from walking or running. If SHG was a competitive figure skater back in the, I think she must have been completely off the ice for a long time. i.e., she looked comfortable, but she didn't look at home.

see sampooki... u r at it again... *sigh* no blind date guy!! (just coz samsoonie doesnt CARE FOR HIM AT ALL!)
(and I REALLY REALLY dun wanna bunch my beloved samsoonie with the likes of your patzzi, BUT if she is all wishy washy.. I cant help but consider...)

the entrance of our samsooki was him walking across the pool in his speedo...THEN he swam in butterfly THEN he was naked THEN he played dress up. We saw that if the pool is all to our samsooki, he can swim some pretty butterfly

first if samsooki was some perfect dreamboat... what's there for our samsooni to 'work on' and 'straighten' out?! and if she's going to jump ship to that blind date guy just coz samshik can't outbitch that perfect Dr Kim... what is there to make of their 'love'?!?!?!?!?! it drains the whole drama down some toilet.. samsoonie didnt fall for this samshiki because he's this perfect prince shell, and our samshiki didnt fall for this samsoonie because she's this perfect OPW doll.

now u r not being fair...he played bball with THE Doc Kim in brown dress shoes. And what is Korean guy's pride doing with bball and swimming anyways?! IT's all girl power with Kim! Yu! Na!!!!! and u know with all the trauma our poor samsooki grew up with (his mom still beat this grown 6ft man with up with her handbag(ie #1 ahjumma weapon)!!!...and more seriously his big bro's death...) his inner little boy craving all the love can't beat up this perfect Dr. Kim!! so... he LIG and let Dr Kim win almost everything...now the whole kimchi thing... that is some Korean pride at stake there.

Then it's the bigger issue of u mixing acting with the real deal... you take a pro to fake it...Suna is a piano major, but she's a good actress and she can fake it. SYR is a cute little furry white bunny, but she can act like a Bora or fall in the hands of a bear who's just pooped and thus BORA must die!!
