Kolorful Palette: A mother’s determination [God’s Gift – 14 Days]

This week I finally jumped aboard the God’s Gift – 14 Days wagon, and I couldn’t be happier that I did. I’m only 4 episodes in (no spoilers please!) but it’s already exceeded all my expectations. When it comes to more serious dramas I tend to be a little makjang-wary, so I often don’t watch them when they first start airing in case they turn out to be big sob-fests. Thankfully God’s Gift is full of intrigue and suspense, and it’s the mystery that has me hooked more than anything.

That being said, I’m also really enjoying the characters so far. Soo-hyun is flawed and has made some questionable decisions, but she’s still extremely admirable, and perfectly channels that mama-bear essence that pretty much defines what it is to be a parent. I love that she doesn’t sit around crying or trying to convince people, and instead focuses herself completely on actual problem-solving. The scene above is when she’s in the club (click for for full size) ready to take on the murderer all by herself. I really liked this scene because it perfectly showcased her determination, and really impressed upon me her incredible level of commitment. It says something that she doesn’t just want to stop her daughter’s murder. She’s also willing to risk her own safety to save girls she doesn’t even know.

I’m equally a fan of detective Dong-chan. He’s a bit scruffy around the edges but far from despicable, and he’s got the whole wounded past thing going without being overly dark or dreary. It’s also hard not to love a guy who puts more importance on an old man’s health than he does on becoming filthy rich. I’d like it if he ended up with Soo-hyun, but I’m not sure that it’s that sort of drama. Woo-jin may be her first love, but he seems suspicious, and I don’t think her marriage will last either.

What’s got me really excited is that this drama is so ripe for a twist or two. I get the impression that every detail is important, and that an intricate plot is about to unfold. I have so many questions and no inkling of what the answers are. Why was Saet-byul’s box unlocked, and a page ripped out of her journal? What’s the deal with the little girl and the puppy? How does the president tie-in? If I had to guess, I would say that the kidnapper is a different person than the serial killer, and that Daddy Ji-hoon in involved in something sketchy. He’s an attorney, so it seems plausible that he’d have a client that’s linked to everything somehow. Feel free to laugh at me if you’re up to date with this drama and I’m completely wrong! Even if I’m not wrong, enjoy that smug feeling of someone who knows what comes next.

I think I’m going to go watch some more episodes this very instant. I already dread catching up and having to wait every week to watch the rest.

I'm not watching this drama yet but I can't wait for it to finish so I can marathon it in one day!

I watched Two Weeks week by week at the time it airs so I can imagine how heart-wrenching this drama can be. I'm so glad the reviews are good.

Great artwork by the way!

I might be a little biased since this is my favorite drama airing right now (and possibly of the year so far), but I think you made an excellent decision to watch this drama :) Thanks as always for sharing your beautiful art and insightful thoughts with us. Even when I'm not following the drama you post about, I still enjoy reading what you have to say and viewing the drama through your canvas.

I just started watching God's Gift also, but I'm on the weekly broadcast schedule, so I've only watched 2 episodes so far. ...... However, I'm already wondering about some of the same things you are.

It's definitely going to be an interesting ride!
