Sohn Dam-bi, Im Seul-ong sign on for Mrs. Cop 2

Honestly, the best part about this casting news isn’t even who they cast, but the fact that Mrs. Cop 2 has decided to create new characters for its second season instead of going with that half-baked idea to cast new people to play Sohn Ho-joon and Lee Da-hee’s characters from the first season. I wouldn’t be surprised if the press started that rumor in the first place, because it was that nutty.

Now that they have new characters to play, confirmations are in for Sohn Dam-bi (What’s With This Family) and Im Seul-ong (Ho-gu’s Love), who’ve been cast to play the members of the detective squad that the new Mrs. Cop will lead. Kim Sung-ryung (Queen’s Flower) will be headlining as an elite FBI-trained veteran detective who takes over the new team, and Kim Min-jong will reprise his role from the original series as the section chief.

Im Seul-ong will play a detective in the violent crimes unit who’s a terse, by-the-book rule-follower in everything he does. But in the field he can also be a chameleon who changes his style to extract testimonies out of people. He’s an upright, incorruptible type, but he’s not a total stick in the mud either, because he’s got some talents hidden underneath his boy scout exterior.

Sohn Dam-bi will play a cop who comes from a small town and dreams of becoming a detective with a great record. She’s a character who both envies and admires Kim Sung-ryung for being sophisticated and smart, unlike her. The second season will focus on a long-unsolved murder case that Kim Sung-ryung digs into, because it resembles a case in her past that once left her completely helpless. In the end it’ll be the teamwork and the ensemble that’ll make or break the show, not the cases, so here’s hoping that the new cast clicks.

Mrs. Cop 2 follows I Have a Lover on Saturdays and Sundays beginning in March.

Very excited. I'm happy that they're just making new characters. I'll miss the original cast but oh well.

Hope Seulong improved his acting... he was quite awkward in Hogu's love.

The last time I saw Sohn Dam-bi was in Dream 7 years ago she was not the best actress, has she improved?

Nope. Her acting was annoying in her last drama. She's pretty but that's about it.

I think it's her character that was annoying, not her acting per se?

It was both. Although she did tone down a bit on her acting later on.

One of the very few k-dramas of the past couple years I really thought was worth a 2nd season - yay!.

well the character descriptions are pretty much the same as Sohn Ho Joon's and Lee Da Hee's originals, so...same characters, different names? I guess that's okay.

But still, the first Mrs Cop was so bad, I hope they introduce some logic and common sense to the new one. Also, Kim Min Jong's character was a sexist perv. I don't know why we - or anyone - have to buy him as some awesome chief. He wasn't.

I really WANT this to be good, but I'll wait and see what's in the water before I try it this time. I still can't believe I actually watched the whole first one. Gah.

As long as there's less police corruption and more twisty criminals, I'm in. Heck, I'm in anyway.
