Doctor Cha Jung-sook reboots her life in first teaser

How do you restart a career after over 20 years on the bench? With its premiere approaching next month, Doctor Cha Jung-sook has started its promotional run with a teaser starring its titular lead Uhm Jung-hwa (Our Blues).

Our lead Cha Jung-sook was once a thriving doctor, but after marrying the strict and controlling surgery department head Seo In-ho, played by Kim Byung-chul (All of Us Are Dead), she hung up her doctor’s gown in exchange for a housewife apron. However, 20 years later, she’s now ready to stand up for her dreams and go back to the hospital, even if it means starting over as a first-year resident. But in an industry all too keen on leaving people like her behind, the question remains: will she be able to stay afloat in the torrent of hospital buzz?

Filling out the rest of the main cast, we also have Myung Se-bin (Bossam: Steal the Fate) playing Choi Seung-hee, a family medicine doctor and In-ho’s first love (don’t love the sound of that), and Min Woo-hyuk (People with Flaws) playing Roy Kim, a free-spirited surgeon and epic flirt.

In the teaser, Jung-sook pensively sips coffee, while the on-screen text says, “to the one whose heart still burns, this is your fresh start.”

We then get a dramatic cut to Jung-sook’s hectic life back as a doctor — attempting to help a choking man on a bus, getting flustered at the sight of blood in the ER, and receiving a scolding from her (much younger) superior. In the voiceover she resignedly tells us, “Yes, it might be hard to believe, but I am a doctor. I know my life is about to drastically change.”

But it’s in the ending shots of Jung-sook’s confused, joyful, and even angry faces where it’s hinted that, although the road ahead will be tough, this decision will lead to the most fulfilling journey in Jung-sook’s life.

Written by Jung Yeo-rang and directed by Kim Dae-jin (King of Pigs), Doctor Cha Jung-sook will premiere on April 15 on JTBC.

So far looks like she will be rebuilding her life after being shut down so hopefully slice of life comedy without too much power games or trying to kill people. Less Ghost doctor/It’s ok not to be ok and more Hospital playlist.

I was excited for this ever since I saw the news weeks ago.

Kim Byung-chul in a likely replica of his character in Sky Castle🤦🏽. I know he's a good actor so why am I not seeing him in protagonist roles. P.S. I've not seen anything of his post-Sky Castle and I thought this would be the one.
