Anyone read the Crazy Rich Asians series? 2 books in, and half way through the 3rd, and I can’t figure out who I’m supposed to be rooting for?

I did!! A year back and I think I remember only 10% of the first book. I’m drawing blank for the other two books. I can’t remember anything.

It was different but not better. Generally I prefer books over movies but strangely the film stayed with me more than the book.

I watched the movie before the books and there’s a discrepancy. Constance Wu is amazing so she gives Rachel a totally different persona in the movie than the way she’s depicted in books.

I think I’ve read both (if not all 3) books in this series and really enjoyed them, but that was quite some time ago, so I’m sorry I don’t remember enough to help! If you don’t find the characters likeable, then maybe it’s not a good fit? (I sometimes need permission to drop things, so if you’re like me, then I give you permission! :o))

I think I rooted for Rachel and Nick in the first one, and then Astrid in the second… They do live a life that is not at all relatable in socioeconomic terms (at least to me!), but I kind of viewed that through a fantasy lens and didn’t mind it too much. :oP

I really appreciate you “giving” me permission to drop the series, lol. If you only knew how many terrible dramas I’ve sat through just because I refuse to drop any series after 4 episodes. For me, none of the characters in CRA are all that likeable. I rooted for Rachel and Nick in the first book but in the second, I wanted to tear my hair out. In the third, Astrid baffles me with her shocked reactions to the things happening to her as a direct result of her enabling.

I totally get that, and fully support cutting ties when no characters are likeable!

I find it hard to drop shows myself, so I have to ‘trick’ myself – I just stop watching/reading and consider them ‘on hold’ rather than dropped. :oP I did something similar when I was still writing papers – I’d cut and paste passages that I couldn’t let go of, but that didn’t really fit or belong, into a separate document. Those random passages continue to be orphaned in digital limbo!! (There must be some subtle difference between shelving and discarding to me, that allows me to do one but not the other…)

I have read all three books and thoroughly enjoyed them, but the third book was not quite as good as the first two.
