I’m going to present to you one of my favorite Indonesian novel that never failed to cheer me up. (Sadly, there’s no English translation available yet as far as I know.) Padang Bulan and Cinta dalam Gelas by Andrea Hirata. A fine slice-of-life tale about women empowerment told through a chess competition held in a small village in rural Sumatra. Important life lesson most often is found at the strangest place, and this humorous yet emotionally charged story knows that very very well.
