This is such a painful scene. I can recall feeling the same way as the daughter when I was in high school, although it involved the latest jeans fad. In retrospect, that seems relatively tame in comparison to hideously expensive designer handbags and backpacks.

The way the argument escalated was classic. Seventeen years' worth of frustration and resentment came to a head, and crowned over into a demand for divorce. But there must have been something good about the relationship, at least in the beginning.
