The drama series The Musical entered its first shoots on July 4, and here are stills of two if its stars, Gu Hye-sun (Boys Before Flowers) and Ok Joo-hyun (the musical Cats).
The first shoot had aspiring musical actress Go Eun-bi (Gu Hye-sun) watching “stage diva” Bae Kang-hee (Ok Joo-hyun) give an impassioned performance on stage. As she watches Kang-hee, enraptured with the musical, Eun-bi makes a decision to head closer to her dream.
The scene was actually filmed at a real live performance. Prior to the shoot, the producers had been in search of a real musical from which it could use insert footage, and requested permission from a successful show, Maria Maria. The musical was happy to agree, given that The Musical is a series centered in their world. As a result, Maria Maria‘s lead actor Jo Ji-hoon also got screen time in the drama series.
To play the part of the audience, approximately 100 extras were used as Ok Joo-hyun took the stage to sing the title song from Maria Maria.
The drama features the “fiery passion and the romance of producers, songwriters, and actors who team together to make the best possible musical” and will include scenes shot in New York’s Broadway. The drama will air later this year.

any random sighting will do….2 freaking years how are we to survive
interesting.. maybe i should put this drama on my list to keep tabs on..
I can’t wait to watch GHS on my small screen again!
I’m probably the only one out there, but I’m not a fan of Gu Hye-sun. I don’t care for her acting style. Sounds like she’s a very creative individual, but I’ll probably skip this one.
wow…altho i hated her in BOF, i am actually excited about this….it looks real interesting, and the 2 pictures above looks good
I love anything with good music.Musical drama series is a change from the usual. Look forward to this and to GHS playing a different role. I thought she did a good job of acting as the character was written in BOF.
1 – uh i don’t think they meant Joo Ji Hoon.
I was going to mention, isn’t he in the army last time I heard?
I’m glad they’re putting an actual Musical Group into the drama (even if in clips). Ebert gives a thumbs up!
wow 100 extras .. heres something to look forward too
I can’t wait to watch new drama! I enjoy watcing musicals so to be on a drama would be refreshing to see. I love Hyesun!
this is one of the dramas i am excited for the later half of the year. the premise sounds fantastic!
@Sveta
it’s JO Ji-hoon, not Joo Ji-hoon. different dude.
Not a fan of Gu Hye-Sun couldn’t stand her in BOF but I really like the sound of this drama and that still actually gives me hope that maybe I’ll like her in this drama. Shall be waiting to see more about this drama
Sounds exciting! Hope it doesn’t disappoint…. Also, hoping the drama will have really nice songs since it’s about music. How about cameos from the many boyband singers who are branching into musicals? That should bring in some hype and more eye candy =)
I’ve only seen GHS in the royal screwup that was BOF so maybe that makes me a little biased, but all her projects sound so…blah. Think i’m gonna skip this one too.
oopsie my bad
though think JJH was in a musical before he went into the army?? could be wrong again
sounds good and i’m exicited to see it!
@4 nokcha – am glad i’m not the only one!
Not sure…will wait for JB’s review/first impressions…then may be watch it as GHS didn’t impressed me as an actress in BOF.
I have no idea why but I really like Goo Hye Sun. I don’t think 꽃보다 남자 did her justice. Hopefully she’ll be able to bring all the haters to the other side with this drama. =)
Finally my queen returns! From the tone of some remarks, you’d think that BOF was a collosal failure instead of the runaway sensation that it was…? As I recall, it seems as if they gave out one of the top awards for Goo Hye Sun carrying the aforementioned runaway hit on her tiny little shoulders. I don’t believe I’ve ever heard any industry insider, of any age or peer group utter a single negative comment regarding this lady’s abilities or her considerable likability. Interesting….
There’s a lot of dramas to watch out for this next half of 2010.. the musical definitely tops my list mainly because of Goo Hye Sun.. she’s really talented and pretty. It’ll be a delight to watch her on-screen again =D and btw, lovin’ her hair extensions!
Maria Maria? I think i saw that. The Korean production came to NYC a few years ago. I got no Ok Ju Hyun though
very interesting, i am a fan of Goo Hye Sun. Hope this drama would be a great one
Still hesitant about it.
But keeping my eyes open.
We’ll have to wait and see.
