Kim Yoo-jung to fight back against bullies in Angry Mom

Kim Yoo-jung looks to be heading to MBC for her next project, with the announcement that she’s in talks to join upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama Angry Mom. The drama and the role sound really cute, so I look forward to seeing what comes of it: The story is about a thirtysomething mother who normally doesn’t care about current events, who sees her daughter being bullied, and decides to go back to high school to deal with the matter.

Kim Yoo-jung’s character is a smart and mature student who is friends with the class outcast, which makes her the target of the school bullies. It’s not clear whether the angry mom is hers or her friend’s, but in any case, Kim Yoo-jung works with her in her mission to put a stop to the school violence. I find the idea of a thirtysomething woman posing as a high school student utterly hilarious, and would find it almost too absurd to cast until I remembered this. That’s Jang Nara only a couple years ago, and if they could cast her to be undercover mom, I would be SO all over this show.

Maybe this’ll be a nice turnaround for Kim Yoo-jung after her last drama, Secret Door, replaced her suddenly. (They offered some paltry explanations about that always being the plan, but it was pretty clear that they’d changed their tune about her character so I’m not buying it.) It was touted as her first adult leading role, but I don’t think it’s so bad to let the 15-year-old play her age—especially if it’s in good projects that let the actors shine, whatever their age.

Angry Mom was the winner of an open scriptwriting competition held by MBC, and will be directed by PD Choi Byung-gil of the dramas East of Eden and Would You Give Love Away. Currently casting, the drama will take up the midweek slot after Kill Me Heal Me (which premieres in January).

Really enjoying these school dramas. Hope MBC can top up on The Queen's Classroom. The premise of this drama sounds cute already!

Kim Yoo Jung is a freak of nature. EXTREMELY PRETTY. LOOK AT HER. *__*

I hope she get more roles that will allow her to transition smoothly. She's getting better AND prettier every time I see her.

I hope kim yoo jung and kim so hyun don't cave into getting ps in the future because they're both naturally, extremely gorgeous (but it's their bodies and they can do whatever they want).

So she become the bullied one. This is so opposite with her last movie where she is the bully. As long as she is a school student, I'm good with this. Please let's her love-line or friendship male line with actors that maybe 2-3 years older than her in real life or same age or younger.

Yeah Jang Nara would be perfect for the mum going back to high school. Though I have to say that there a lot of thirty+ K-actresses that could play that role; they all look so young.

I am happy for KYJ picking up a drama right after Secret Door.

+1 for JNR in the mum role. It'll be a great role to change her image plus she's totally adorable :) but I'm not sure if people can buy that she's a mum.

But come to think of it, wouldn't this be like her third successive MBC drama in the same timeslot if it happens? Lol

I usually avoid high school dramas like the plague except for recaps if everyone keeps raving or a handful of films like Pluto or Elegant Lies. However, I'm all about undercover hi jinks and I really like Kim Yoo-jung. It's great to see her begin to take center stage. If the rest of the cast shapes up this nicely, and if the topic of combating bullying isn't done overly sentimental resulting in triteness, then I'm on board....Is that too tall an order?

Yes, I usually avoid high school dramas. After watching BOYS OVER FLOWERS, that only made high school dramas THAT much worst--shivers. Yes, that bad (for me anyway). I need more than just pretty boys.

It took me FOREVER to finally decide to watch THE HEIRS which I surprisingly enjoyed. But typically, I would rather NOT watch anything based in high school.

I adore KIM YOO JUNG though so I'll definitely have to wait & see with this one. I really hope the casting shape up. Lately, I've noticed that I get excited than I find out the rest of the casting and then instantly lose my interest.

My first choice would be JANG NARA but my second choice would definitely be SON YE JIN!!!!

I don't buy it because Jang Nara is look cute to be a mother of Kim Yoo Jung and Son Ye Jin not equal beauty as Kim Yoo Jung.
I prefer Kim Hee Sun because she was a beauty child-actress before and both of them look similar too.
I just can't wait to look forward for them.
Daebak!

You know, I was really really disappointed when she was exchanged for another actress in Secret Door... but I'm really glad she'll get another one! :)

Wait. If that thirty something mom is the mother of the outcast, how young was she when she gave birth?! 15??

Having a baby in one's late teens - early twenties (assuming mom is in her mid to late thirties) isn't all that unusual, even in this day and age.

Well HS starts at 15 in my country…is that the same case in Korea? If the mom is 35, then she had the baby when she was 20…not so bad..young, but not bad.

I would love Jang Nara and this is MBC, so it's possible. :)

Random but that pic above with Kim is pretty (and she is, on top of being talented) but her teeth is distracting yellow.

It's the lighting. If her teeth were glowing white in that light I'd worry about them being radioactive or something.

She's got it all to make it big in the future. Talent + the looks to succeed as an adult actress (LBR that's 90% of the battle).

I keep saying...

Just wait for it! This girl is going to be A....M....A....Z....I...N....G!!!!!

I hope she continues to challenge herself as an actress. :)

Jang Nara can pull off any age and I can't think of someone better to cast. Plus I'd like to see her play something other than a Candy - no matter how good she is playing the nice, giving girl.

KYJ is my favourite child actress and it was so sad how she got outed in Secret Door. I hope this one will do really well since she's such a huge talent. Now if only they can reunite her with Yeo Jin-gu or Park Gun-tae...

This sounds utterly hilarious, and I'm all for anything anti-bullying. I have a soft spot for Kim Yoo-jung and I hope she takes this role because she would be great in it.

So, in other words, are you trying to say that they are going to actually use someone who's in high-school, to play someone in high-school?!?!?!

That's... That's... an interesting idea.

Yeah, having a teenager play a teenager is such a violent break with kdrama tradition I'm surprised the make-up and eye-tuck industries aren't protesting.

Err....I don't see that happening. I can see someone like DARA (2NE1) play a highschooler just because she can really pull off looking like one without even trying. lol

Han Groo should play the angry mom. I'm watching her now in Marriage, Not Dating and was crazy surprised to read she's 22 (she plays a 29 year old in the drama). I feel like she's chameleon enough to play a 30 something posing as a 18/19-something.

OMG YES!!! JANG NARA, puh puh puhLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really hope that it also stars opposite YEO JIN GU. I don't know about the rest of you all but I will forever wish for them to make more Kmovies or Kdramas together! hahaha ;-P Both are such wonderful, versatile, and talented actors!!! Their chemistry is AMAZING as well!

It sounds a bit like NEVER BEEN KISSED or the NEW GUY.

I wonder if they'll have a really hot looking teacher. I vote BI RAIN! He needs to have a good comeback. This could be it. I'td be interesting to see him on screen with JANG NARA!

Pssh! Let's have the FTLY reunite already!!! Wait, too soon? :(

Omg, Rain and Jang Nara would be some much awesome together, it needs to happen ASAP! Too bad he's busy making Billions in China so the earliest kdrama comeback for him would be mid 2015.

Sigh, I wonder if he can manage double duty? But first, I hope MBC courts Jang Nara at all lol.

You guys wants JNR as the angry mom eh? if she does, this would be her 3rd drama appearance in MBC. Yeah she fits on that but aside from her, maybe Sung Yu ri will do a mother role once again.... I can't wait for KYJ's new drama besides, I like her as a childe actress.
