Go Ara up to romance robot Seo Kang-joon in KBS’s Are You Human Too

As far as titles go, KBS’s Are You Human Too is a pretty solid one, given that it’s immediately evocative and piques curiosity. The latest news on this drama’s progress is that it is now courting Go Ara (Hwarang) to star, with the male lead role still out to Seo Kang-joon (Entourage), who was offered the project last month and is still in talks.
Are You Human Too is described, rather interestingly, as a story about a “human impersonation con project,” in which a robot armed with artificial intelligence works his way into a fierce power battle within a chaebol family in a large-scale con. Seo Kang-joon has been offered the role of an android named SwindlerGod-III, which, ha. I’m guessing he probably goes by a different name most of the time, given that the robot is initially made upon the request of a third-generation chaebol’s mother after he falls into a coma. Um, that’s not weird and Oedipal at all.
There’s no word on the role Go Ara has been offered, and nothing more about the plot than that previous description, so for now I’m limited to my own speculations. But an android who messes with power-hungry chaebols as part of a con job? That sounds potentially uproarious, and I’m looking with interest at the producing combo of Princess’s Man writer Jo Jung-joo and PD Cha Young-hoon of the quirky mini-drama Baek-hee Has Returned (as well as Uncontrollably Fond, which I don’t hold against him as he did not write it; he was also the second PD on Joseon Gunman and Gaksital, which were both very well-shot).
Are You Human Too does not yet have a premiere date, but is looking at a broadcast run in the latter half of this year.

Definitely. I had previously only seen her in You're All Surrounded and she made little impression on me one way or another. But Hwarang cast her in an unflattering light for me. I think I might avoid this project until it can be confirmed by viewers that it's not total crap.

Yeah, as pretty as Seo Kang-joon and Go Ara are, they're not very consistent. I really didn't like Go Ara in Hwarang. This is quite an interesting pairing... I feel the same about not watching this show unless others say it's worth it.

I haven't seen him in any drama so the comments about him being a "robot" made me curious. Not sure if I want to try watching his past dramas but I sure hope if he's gonna get this, he'll exceed expectations! Heh. On the other hand, I love Go Ara but I also hope she gets better roles/projects. ?

Chicken chingu! ??? I've only seen him in Cheese, but I thought he was great there (he was cute, funny and emoted well), so... ??♀️ I think it's more his characters/his portrayal (?) of his characters that people aren't fond of. I heard he was a total jerkwad in Entourage, so not sure if that's his fault. I think he's got a lot of potential!

Well, this year all those so called no-talent-in-acting actors are stepping up their game. I hope seo kang joon will also improve. I liked him in CITT but havn't watched him in anything else.

Yeah, I've only seen his acting in Cheese and thought he was pretty good there and actually liked his character... but I guess that was the problem because I don't think I was supposed to like his character. Either way, if they both confirm, I'll def give these two a chance and check this out.

I really wanted to see Go Ara in something other than Hwarang! I really like her but I wish she picked better projects! Hope this is good though. I'll watch it for her...although not a big fan of Seo Kang-joon...

It sounds intriguing and strange and I'm definitely down for it! A robot swindler who messes with a chaebol family? Bonus points if they really do get Seo Kang-Joon to star. I want to see him pull off the cold robotic air of his character. Better yet if he's a robot who has to fake being human to accomplish his mission. I can't wait for all the hijinks! Robot reading various texts to help him with his mission "understanding human psychology", "how to act human enough to fool your mother," "Be cold and distant, so technically be yourself: The act of playing like a chaebol", "how to swindle people out of their money, and no holding them by the neck isn't acceptable human behaviour" and even better "how to kiss like a human and mean it". Yes, so much potential in this! I can't wait!!!!

Oh no, I love both the Writer and the PD, esp. the Writer (just wonder where she has been since Cheer Up, Mr.Kim, it's already been 5 years). Problem is the cast (as of now), Seo Kang Joon does nothing to me and Go Ara hurted me bad in Hwarang (I really really really loved her back in Reply 1994 days). If she accepts the role, Drama God, please help her (and us). NO CRY, NO STARE WITH BIG-OPENED-EYES, PLEASE!!!

premise seems really weird. not really sure how to feel about this one. as much as i want her to redeem herself from the mess that is hwarang, i somehow feel that she should pass on this. i have this feeling thay this one would be a bigger mess than her last project. hope she gets a better project.

I'm guessing the character will have enough artificial intelligence to pass as a human. We need a robot that the audience can feel for with even if the character isn't human. So, it could be a tricky role and a robot acting won't cut it.

Looking forward to seeing where they go with this one- the premise is an interesting one. I do fear that this drama will get more attention for its idol casting rather than its actual product though. I have no issue with either (I love Seo Kang Joon to pieces and I didn't know he was an idol til after I watched Cheese), but people do seem to love hating on idol-actors

His group actually doing both - acting and singing. So I think it is still idol. They have released single, if I am not mistaken. Maybe Fantagio wanted to be more unique than other agency, but none of the actors from this group managed to amaze me so far with their acting. They are either just average or mediocre actors.

My first thought was so both of them are robot? Go Ara destroy Hwarang. Luckily PHS has SWDBS to recover. PSJ might have TRMW as well. I know Hwarang filmed last year. But isnt it rare to have three main leads have two dramas each in one year?

Oooh, intrigued. The whole robot/human love thing has so much potential for angst and funny secret-identity shenanigans (A jdrama I really enjoyed back in the day was all about this Zettai Kareshi, aka Absolute Boyfriend. Just a bit worried about the chaebol/company politics dragging things down by being too makjang or poorly plotted.

I might not watching the whole reply 1994 series. But Go ah ra is so good there based on what I watch for the first 1-2 episode. Far for just being decent. Look at Hwarang script and the way they handle the scene. Man even the best actress won't save that drama.

Unfortunately she was the reason that I cannot tolerate to continue Reply 94. Saw her in few episodes of You're All Surrounded and Hwarang, nothing to be remembered from her mediocre acting. The funny thing, her cameo in Producer is quite memorable. Yes the script for Hwarang was horrible, but if I am correct, her character was not the only one poorly written. Same goes to others too. Her expression was too bland and her poorly written chararacter was not helping either.

There is nothing you can work with unintentinal funny scene. I just pick some random episode in Hwarang i just laugh my ass off at the at absurdity the whole scene. Ther is nothing impressive in terms of acting in Hwarang for the young cast either. Well is she getting bland each episode in reply 1994?

I cannot comment as whole because like I said, I was unable to continue watch Reply 94 after few epi because of her. Actually it applies to all Reply franchise. Even Eunji in Reply 97, I dropped at first because of her. I only recently re-pick up after I started to like her in Sassy Go Go and Trot Lover. I seem to have a problem with all female leads in Reply franchise. The character is not really likeable but at the same time I also dont understand why choose someone mediocre too.Maybe like some fans said, those actressess do well in Reply but the performance is not consistent in other drama.

Yup, although the plot sounds weird but if it's handled well I think it will be an interesting drama plus I like some previous projects from the writer and PD. I think Seo Kang Joon is not the first choice though his name that appear first in the media. I've read in the end of 2016 that they tried to to cast top stars as main lead but I think they refused it. Not sure if Go Ara is main choice or not. Probably, the script changes to fit their range of acting.

About Go Ara, I read that she will have a drama with Lee So Hyuk (but maybe it is just a rumours, just like rumours Kim So Hyun will have a drama with Park Shin Hye lol). Or maybe they will cast Lee So Hyuk too in this drama? Lee So Hyuk will be gorgeous as a robot too. lol.

I read about this drama for the first time on Naver in the end of 2016 and just rely on Google Translate. LOL. It was about what project that Hyun Bin would take in 2017 after he had success with his film Cooperation. And this drama was one of the offers that came to him. So I kinda excited plus this one is under MDBC team. I think they prepared it for a long time because this drama will be aired in the second half of 2017. So I kinda dissapointed after Seo Kang Joon name that pop up...
But, yeah I don't think Hyun Bin took it seriously, so the news didn't blow up in the media. I think its about chaebol and he wants let go that type of role, the plot kinda weird so is quite risky because if it isn't handled properly it can be a disaster and maybe a top star like Hyun Bin has another offer that more interesting plus maybe he still traumatized for come back to dramaland after Hyde...

I wonder if the premise is too out-there. It's a sci-fi/fantasy drama, but also one of those corporate-takeover-dramas.
Maybe they've actually offered it a bunch of better actors but were rejected or those actors were busy. However, these two may be giving it more serious consideration so they made the announcement?

For some reason, I actually have a good feeling about this casting. The story def sounds interesting and has potential to be good, I think. Also, Go Ara and Kang Seo-joon are both so gorgeous! They have beautiful eyes.

The premise is soo intresting i'm totally in for fresh ideas but not so happy about Go Ara,her last two project didn't wow me so much...Did she accept the offer?
