It’s 4 am, and I’m in an airport drinking water from my coffee thermos, wondering when is a good time to break into the banana bread I made, and debating by what criteria I should rank drama oppas…

Like, should the ranking be how long I’ve liked them? How often I recall them even when they don’t have a drama going? How many of their dramas I’ve seen? How much I swooned for that ONE character they played? The acting ability? How many variety/interview clips I have watched solely for that actor? Or how much I generally enjoy their work?

Generally, I consider Song Joong Ki and Lee Seung Gi to be my first oppas, and you never forget your first. But Lee Joon came right to mind when I first thought of this question (which rather surprised me), but that’s likely because I’ve frankly really enjoyed all his dramas I’ve seen, even if he is not the best actor, and that is something I can’t say of nearly any other oppa.

I go with all of the above criterion. Ranking is kinda pointless for me given how many actors I like. Actually, my “list” is based more on how that feeling they brought to the drama and their characters. There are standouts to be sure. Like Song Joong Ki in DotS, Lee Min Ki in Dal Ja’s Spring and Because this Life is our First, and Lee Je Hoon in Tomorrow With You. Then you have actors who won me over despite how terrible their dramas were like Ji Chang Wook in The K2 and Yang Se Jong in Temperature of Love. The you have actors I love, just because, like Park Seo Joon–actually, I like him because he’s very good looking and I liked him/his character in Witch’s Love and WWwSK. I can’t forget the actors how have this weird combination reasoning for me liking them, like Taecyeon. His acting might not be the best, but his characters and his looks and his acting make me like him.

Granted, we’re just talking more about “oppas/hyungs” here. Also, by the nature of this post, I haven’t mentioned Chinese/Taiwanese/Japanese actors. We will be here all day.

I usually don’t do rankings either ~ I prefer to appreciate as I go along, hence my made up “oppa treasure chest,” but I thought it would be interesting to try to decide if I do have any kind of bias (though usually this line of thought is just coming up with several actors I can’t choose between).

Like, I just plain love Yoon Shi Yoon and Lee Seung Gi even if I know I will never watch all their dramas. Song Joong Ki and Yoo Ah In I admire fervently and will happily watch all day. Ryu Jun Yeol has great acting chops and charm, even though I found some of his dramas frustrating (I’m referring to the one where the lead actress wanted to sleep with him because he was born in the year of the tiger) (I could just look the title up but I refuse).

Lee Dong Wook and Park Seo Joon I actually have watched most of their dramas and find them epitomes of beauty (again, we are only looking at the Korean oppa/hyung category), as well as having a sincere charm.

There are probably so many other actors I could also talk about as I think of them… we will be here all day…

Oh, and I think Lee Joon is like Taecyeon for me. I didn’t even think I would like him the first time I saw him, but somehow he’s ended up one of the first actors I think of due to his characters.

If I’m honest, this post was just an excuse to look up winking gifs. Forgive me.

Oh, no wink… Lee Joon isn’t good at winking, so I thought it would be funny just to leave a despondent picture next to the winking charmers. 😅 sorry for the unintentional prank!
