Ques: Is American media struggling with why or how a super handsome man is not sex crazy, not a bad boy, and not someone promoting morality of convenience? Why is V introducing himself as “I’m not a bad boy”?

I can honestly say I do not know why he is saying “I’m a good boy” other than it’s super cute and endearing!!!

I thought the media had transitioned to the “cute boys” generalization when they realized asking them about girls and other such things resulted in too short/bland answers. I had assumed that when V introduced himself as a “good boy” it was a reference to GD and Taeyang’s song. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time a Big Bang song inspired an obsession with saying a particular English phrase in Korea.

      That was my assumption too.

nah too random.. after years of debut ..
nah! it’s totally an american thing.. like how american agencies must be trying to force fit their model on these boys.. but well it just doesn’t fit.. they aren’t the rockstars with a glamourous life of free choices with no responsibility..

they are products of their culture which isn’t American as americans are products of their culture which isn’t asian

Bigbang is basically iconic in Korea so it actually isn’t too far-fetched of an idea for people to still be quoting their songs years after they were released. Kids still love yelling out “You’re a loser~” or “Bangbangbang” even though both those songs came out half a decade ago. Plus, “good boy” is generally a term used in America when speaking about your dog or child, not boy groups, so I kind of doubt V’s use of it is American influenced.

Although there are still a lot of issues with American coverage of BTS, I actually thought they’ve been very kind to BTS (at least for this round of promotions). BTS is lucky that because they are from a foreign country and aren’t mainstream they get the royal guest treatment all the time. Normally, since the American entertainment world is the most toxic and cut-throat in the world, the media would be like hounds trying to make a scandalous headline out of them. Anyway, I don’t think anyone’s trying to force a model on them when they literally know next to nothing about them. Also, no matter how they come across in their music videos, it’s just plain impossible to call them “bad boys” when they have bubblegum colored hair and do finger hearts lolol It’s undeniable though that American media is having a lot of trouble figuring out how to handle the BTS situation since the language and K-Pop culture factor is so different from what they are familiar with.

I think it’s more that the shows haven’t done any homework and aren’t prepared to ask culturally appropriate questions. I was disappointed with Colbert this week. I expected more from someone who had a dance off with Rain.
