As part of the Ghibli fest event they screened ‘My Neighbor Totoro’ in theater today. Watched it again and fell in love all over again. Some movies are simply 💗.
I’m going tomorrow! It’s one of my favorite Miyazaki movies, and I haven’t seen it in years and I’m glad I actually remembered to get tickets this year.
I think this and Spirited Away are my favorites. I took my family to see Spirited Away last year when one of the local theaters did a Miyazaki movie event.
Yes I too watched Spirited away last year in a theater 🙂
I love that movie too. But Mononoke’s underlying nature/environment theme is something I personally love in Mononoke.
I think it’s been too long since I saw Mononoke, and I may not have understood/appreciated it fully for what it was when I first saw it many many years ago, so it definitely deserves a rewatch on my part before I say anything. I just love Spirited Away because I love how Miyazaki effortlessly weaves Japanese folklore/spirituality/tradition in with modern fantastical elements and yet makes the stories universal and accessible. (This is probably why I love Totoro so much as well.) But now I think I need to rewatch Mononoke to see if my appreciation for it has changed as I’ve gotten older (and because the world is literally on fire).
