I did this as a 4th-5th year all the time. 😀 I loved my rotations.

Still trying really hard wrapping my mind on FELLOW FELLOW FELLOW

I haven’t seen this episode yet—but yeah, they don’t know what a FELLOW is. I was a fellow and I had a steep learning curve when I was there (came from peds residency into a fellowship that was joint med-peds) and was out of my element for all of 6 months. You figure it out—or work until you do.

I dont see why they couldnt have made her an intern or a first year resident. The nausea would make so much more sense. I guess they wanted a parallel subspecialty. (YYS’ Kang Dong Joo was GS and now so is Woo Jin)… If YHJ’s Yoon Seo Jeong comes back from overseas CS fellowship she would eat Eun Jae alive. 🤣

How did she even get through her surgery rotation?

How does doctor hierarchy work? What are the steps? How many years of study?

college (aka Pre Medicine); 3-4 years
      Medicine; 4-5 years
After which you get your license, as a general doctor.
Intern; 1 year (varies per country, sometimes it is the same as first year residency, sometimes it’s the last year of medical school)
Residency; 3-5 years (Depends on what specialty)
Fellowship; 1-3 years (Depends on what SUB-specialty)

The reason we find Cha Eun Jae weird is because as a CS “Fellow” it is presumed she has finished a residency. I dont know how it works in Korea but it’s usually, you finish general surgery, then you go into subspecialty training as in cardio, neuro or gs subspecialty like liver, gallbladder (like Dr Park Min Gyu)

But it seems in the series she is the same year as WooJin who is a general surgeon fellow.

Thank you for the detailed info.

Even without knowing doctor steps, from common sense alone she shouldn’t be a 2nd year fellow or any year anything because she’s had this problem since med school, & to get to cardio she should be able to perform surgery, but she balks at blood & cutting someone up.

I would have accepted it if they made her an intern or a first year resident. Sometimes these issues persist a while, i have friends who couldn’t tolerate anatomy lab but still eventually became surgeon because they wanted to. I loved my surgery rotation but eventually didnt become one. I wish they also showed her going thru therapy or practicing sutures with pig meat too. Her character has no other interesting background story to grab on to.

Agreed. I also wished they’d shown us that. In the last season they showed therapy & practise sutures, I dunno why they didn’t even try showing us that she tried & failed & maybe that’s why she made such a reckless decision
