Well, I wasn't expect that sad ending for a main character in "That Psychometric Guy"- It is a drama I am impressed with because it didn't have any well-known name actors and even used a newbie as the lead. I credit the delightful surprise to writing and directing. PD Kim Byung-soo had interview about the show which only had a few episodes left. [OSEN, 2019.04.21] Currently the show has warm viewers' response with a romantic thriller story along with good performance of Park Jin-young (Yi An), Shin Ye-eun (Yun Jae-in), Kim Kwon (Kang Seung-mo) and Kim Da-won(Eun Ji-soo). In particular, it was noted for the detailed directing including fine double line connecting the past and present events and metaphors.

PD Kim Byeong-soo explained, "I wanted to present the expressions of the emotion differently from the actor's face and lines which show directly in this work. I thought that I could create a more luxurious drama through indirect expression." He continued,
"I tried to express the insight of past and present stories easily in props and colors. The emotions of the characters were mainly expressed using color, and the metaphor was planted in paintings and props. In addition, since it has the theme of healing "past" and "wound", there are many past and present stories revealed in the latter half, so I had to lay a hidden line(foreshadowing) everywhere."
Kim also mentioned about the genre of the show. "We wanted to provide fun by combining two genres, romance in the beginning and thriller in the latter. I thought that romance was a necessary in understanding the hero's narrative and feelings. Thrillers start in earnest after 10th ep., and you will watch characters' twined pasts and understand."

Kim said Yi An is red and Yoon Jae-in is yellow -each signature color tone exists for viewers' fun. "I wanted to give each character a color and express their feelings with their partners in terms of color intensity and lightness. Even though these changes are not visible at a glance, they are arranged to give the viewers a little pleasure, just like finding a hidden picture. When Yi An and Jae-in first met, we used the primary colors red and yellow, and gradually they became pastel tones as they deepened their feelings about each other. So, in the playground scene where they confirmed each other's hearts in episode 8, Yi An was wearing light pink, while Yun Jae-in was wearing light yellow clothes." He continued, "After Yi An and Jae-in were parted in the street in ep 19, I made all street passengers to use only the primary red and yellow umbrellas. It means that relationship of those two were back to the beginning and the minds about each other were closed. To show the emotional fall more clearly, I used the rain to maximize the feeling of separation in the early ep. 10, while for the ending in ep. 8 I used of the snow and the yellow light to give warm and comfortable feeling."

People were enthusiastic to find metaphor hidden in various places in the drama. "I feel good because it feels like breathing with viewers. It is difficult to say that the metaphor is a definite answer because it has subjective meaning in directing, but it is fun because people seem to see exactly what I intended to do. In fact, I've designed the colors and accessories around the screen so that people know who they are related to, and of course there are many metaphors that people have not found yet."

The show has only a couple of episodes left. "I hope viewers to have fun looking for the connection in the props and pieces in the latter half of the show. In particular, Yi An reads memories in objects as well as people. If you had doubts like "Could it be?" about the props that have passed through the past broadcasts, I'm making a spoiler carefully that it will be an important vehicle in resolving the case."

i remember seeing a video about the use of color in TPG. Funnily enough, while watching Destiny's Love, i started noticing the use of color in that cdrama. Usually i get my clues from clothing, hairstyles, character music, the writing, and from writing on character's t-shirts. Now i'm looking at color.

Thank you so much for the translation! I kept seeing the article on my tl and was intrigued to know what the director said.

The director also mentioned the colour thing in the press conference and even the colours of their pencil case, phone case, etc are correlated. It's been fun dissecting every little thing.
