The Atypical Family: Episodes 3-4

But the handholding and the flowers were honest from her side and she was surprised to be called a liar for it.
Whereas the proposal was something she made on her computer, when she found out he wouldn't necessarily know about their interactions until later.

The poster looked cute and so was the interaction between the leads. I also found the ML's fish out of water scenes to be funny and I liked his bodygaurd, but the rest of the the plot annoyed the heck out of me. It is one thing to have a ML follow moral's from Joseon era, but it is totally rubbish to have a FL continuously being harassed at workplace. I am out for this sole reason. Also, Lee Yoo Young is a great actor but her acting is so over the top in this drama and does not suit her. Thanks @starrygazer for the recap and welcome to DB :)

I was thinking I would wait until part 2 dropped and watch it all then. Maybe I won’t Is it worth watching now?

Me too. Loved One Spring Night. Heard about the end of Pretty Noona before watching it and decided to give that a pass. Started Midnight Romance but it was feeling a bit formulaic. Younger guy who knows what he wants. Ambivalent older woman who is drawn in by his emotional openness and single mindedness. Who wouldn’t want that? Starting to feel a bit manipulated. But really all shows manipulate. I could be wrong. I often am.

4 out of 6 are on my potential watchlist. The one I know I will like is the one I fear may never appear. It must be hard for all those involved in the production. I hope the newer cast members can still get other roles without the exposure they would have gained. I wonder if they would be able to treat it like the shows that don’t air in Korea due to scandals but are still released globally.

1: I'll at least start anything with Jo Bo-a -- if she's there.

2: So shows about medical residents are in critical condition, and instead we get The Auditors. Sorry, now I can't get my mind off Terry Pratchett's auditors.

All the others: Nothing grabs me.

Getting a whole bunch of winning lotto tickets would be a red flag, but is not necessary. All you need is a big win or a series of smaller wins and then you can invest. Having success on the stock market would not be a red flag at all, it would just make you a successful trader.

The fact that they are struggling financially because she has lost her power is only for the sake of the plot. In the real world, it wouldn't happen. The hard part is accumulating the wealth. Once you have it, you don't easily lose it unless you are being reckless. However, the situation should be explained if the way she made their fortune was through day trading.

Lovely Runner I’m so glad we got so much cuteness and fluff and fun this week (till the ending….) because there’s been enough angst so far for a lifetime. I’m a seasoned veteran though, I know this is just the calm before the storm and there’s more angst to come in the second last week, but I suppose that’s what makes me enjoy this brief reprieve even more.

Bridgerton S3 is here…but unfortunately split into two parts. I binged it all in one sitting and the jury is out on how I feel about it so far. I’m not completely sold on the leading couple this season just because Colin needed one heck of a redemption arc to turn things around (in my eyes) to be worthy of Penelope’s pining but alas we haven’t gotten that in the first four episodes. I’m also not a fan of this first half of Penelope’s character journey (did we have to sustain the wallflower/ pity case characterisation, whose only prospective match is someone who just mildly likes her). That said, there are some cute moments and I surprisingly found myself quite invested in Francesca’s subplot the most by the end. Now I’m rewatching just to take in the stunning costuming and set pieces, so many gorgeous and dazzling things for the eyes to fixate on 🤩

Love You Seven Times 5 more episodes to go! This has been a delightful watch, the plot is excellently paced and I love how tightly woven the plot points are across all the lifetimes. In particular, I really love the choice to unravel the story backwards so we watch them fall in love and then find out how cycle/their love story initially began. It deepens their love and It makes the ‘fated’ element land so much more effectively than if they’d told us the origin story first and gone from there. Though, tbh the FL I’ve warmed up to now character wise because she’s gone through a major growth arc, but I’m still left wanting acting wise - feels like the ML and just general plot is making up for the gaps with her performance so far.

Also just started Lady Revenger Returns from the Fire which is giving In Blossom vibes but possibly tighter storytelling since it’s 24 episodes. Am watching Blood of Youth with my mum too, I’ve heard good things so looking forward to watching the story unfold (and in time for whenever S2 drops too!)

Dropped Dare To Love Me which is a shame because I was really excited for it! I wasn’t finding any of the humour landing and plot set-up wasn’t working for me overall, despite pushing through to the end of the second episode :(

Kdramas sometimes give me whiplash. On the one hand are shows like this where teenagers in school seem to be in on all the action, and on the other, are shows like Dr. Slump (like most others) wherein 30+ adults-doctors with full knowledge of human anatomy- behave like clueless teens. Even QoT showed a previously married couple mostly behaving as if they'd never held each other before.
Both extremes irritate me, because why can't they show normal people in relationships doing what happens naturally, not necessarily explicit, but a realistic depiction of dating and physicality, even if it's just holding hands or hugging each other without cringe behaviour. The build-up to the romance is often so good, but after the first kiss or hand-hold, it's back to square one...
