So @minminfan convinced me with a (carefully curated?) set of recommendations – Day6 are amazing. This music is on another level? What sorcery is this? Here’s one I really love:
FINALLY! God, they are good. I put this exact song up on my wall around the New Year it affected me so profoundly. I had just fallen into the Day6 hole at that point and couldn’t get enough of them. Seeing them in concert this past year was surreal as I’ve only been a fan for <1 year. This song encapsulates all my teenaged angst and my ultimate fears about getting older and losing everyone I know and love. Gah, can you see my tears right now? I love how the chorus cuts through the verses with the “Why am I alone??!!” I want to see this curated list! I have my favorites as well if you’d like another list. 😉
I’ve been a fan for just over a month but I want to see them live SO BADLY! I’m extremely envious of everyone who’s had the chance to!
The playlist I made is here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4y8lUoRuJ7Xo62XrLwt60y
It seemed like she liked their soft-rock side more so I put my favourites from that side of them at the top ^^ (also, no Japanese releases cause they’re not on Spotify in my country)
When I saw them, Jae jumped off stage and ran into the auditorium and stopped just 6 ft from where I was seated. I was elated to see him so close. My husband was there and just made fun of me the rest of the night. I don’t think he’s ever seen me so star-struck! And I’ve seen some celebrities. These guys are so sincere and such fun performers. Jae probably burns 1000 calories each concert. He’s a riot.
That’s a great playlist! May I put together some new stuff for you all??? @saturtledaisy wasn’t as impressed with their new album, but I quite like it. I’ll put some of the Japanese ones on there too. So soft rock, eh? Like indi-rock? I’m more 70’s-80’s rock, punk, and metal. I also like indi-rock. I had a whole conversation (with a patient, no less) about how Nirvana invented the soft/indi-rock to metal/grunge sound and you can hear some of that in Day6’s new album. That’s why I like them. They incorporate all these genres and make it still sound like Day6.
I would have been on super fangirl mode as well!! Ahhh!!
And, exactly! I love how every song has that *signature* Day6 stamp to it! That’s why I really liked the new album as well! They tried out stuff like a Bossanova groove but it didn’t feel like they were just going along trying to be trendy.
Interesting that you mention Nirvana. I’m not sure they’re a direct influence for them, but it seems like they’re influenced by bands that were in turn influenced by Nirvana so maybe it filters down that way 🤔
i was plenty impressed! its been on replay ever since it came out.
i just dont like reggae much sadly and i always warm up to slower songs later, so theres about three or four songs out of eleven im not dying to replay for now.
like. im impressed at their SKILL but if theyre going to release every genre ever in one album i cant love all songs equally. i hope youngks got the bananas out of his system now
What Sadhana points out above. Soft rock – I loved you, I need someone, I would, etc :D.
I’ve not heard any of these earlier. It seems from Sadhana’s categorisation, that I’d heard their punk rock earlier, and I definitely still don’t think much of that.
also forgive my spamming but i would is one of their best songs EVER and deserves so much more love
they used to always perform you were beautiful and i like you at concerts and festivals and they all BREAK ME especially live. im glad i got to hear i liked you and letting go live before they disappeared off the setlist
day6 is the best at getting dramatic
if you like dramatic “like the flowing wind” from their new album has been my go to belty soft rock song this month

Yeah! I’d heard a few songs earlier but only liked a couple so I didn’t look too deep. But suddenly today I’ve heard many that I LOVE.

Here is my Day6-lite playlist. Half of their current album (Entopy) I would categorize as soft/indie rock. Spotify added a few others, including a solo by Jae that I also have heard—I think it’s pretty old though.

@saturtledaisy, it’s called “Better Man.”

I guess the better word “soft rock” would be ballads. I’d call “I need somebody” as a power ballad, would you?

ahh indeed not on spotify for me. i think many of the songs they do are rock ballads/power ballads.
