So I actually think that Red Moon Blue Sun just lied to us and, if I’m right, it’s one of the most epic things a kdrama has ever done…

Not that we’ll ever know – but that’s the point. I still think Woo-kyung’s stepmother did NOT kill her sister. I think her father did and her stepmother has made it her life’s work to cover for him. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that they followed the revelation of her stepmother’s abuse and manslaughter of her little sister with references to the original case that sparked this – a woman who covered up the murder of her child by her husband. Remembering that Woo-kyung stepmother was extremely sympathetic to that woman in the beginning.

During that whole confession scene I was struck by two things.
    1) if the father did it and the stepmother wanted to take that to her grave then her confession was the ONLY way Woo-kyung (and us) would ever know.

    2. Stepmum seemed to be deliberately provoking Woo-kyung to violence in a way that felt as though she was still determined to take the truth to the grave. In that respect her so-called “happiness” at the end would be the happiness of a woman who’s assured that the true secret would never come to light.

I couldn’t help thinking the same thing. The parallel with the woman from earlier eps who was burned inside the car is too strong. Strangely though, I don’t mind it that much since I’m too glad to know that Woo-kyung has made peace with her past. She might not going to forgive her parents for the rest of her life, but I don’t think she is as tormented by the lies they fed her anymore. Healing might be a really long process for her, but I think the drama left her ready to do that.

Wow and I only thought I’m disappointed and disbelieve everything. The way you put it made me reconcile with the final episode. Thank you!

That’s what also supports the anti-vigilante message the show came down on – she could have killed an innocent person. And despite all his rationalisations and deflated final state, Red Cry was a manipulative sociopath who was clearly getting off on being the smartest person in the room. He can talk all he wants about his guilt, but he did far worse things than most of his victims did – what he did to his brother in particular was almost as bad as the sexual abuse he had endured.
